“a place to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014

Wonderful panorama, unfortunately the day we went there the time was foggy; so we missed the view! nice church to see up-there. I found it is a pity to see the Electricity Tower just before the beautiful chapel!

“Top of the island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

We've been visiting Corfu for over five years now, and we have seen it all, been everywhere, so now we go there to see the people we got to know over the years, visit old friends and occasionally meet new people who live permanently on the island.
But one yearly "must do" is drive up the mountain. We never ever take the main road (too boring), we always take the dirt roads up. Be aware, there are no signs, it might be foggy and you easily get lost when you don't know your ways around. Plus, you have a big risk on a flat tire, so make sure you are well prepared before starting to go up there the way we do...
One of the reasons we make this crazy yearly travel is that there are two abandoned villages on the hill. One, for sure, you can find through travelling up the normal road (even tourist busses stop here) and it has shops and taberna's.
The other one however you can only find by discovering the whole mountain, and is really abondoned. And that's the one we are looking for every year... Just to sit there, in between these beautiful mountains and listen to the sound of the eagles and ... nothing else... A place to relax and enjoy the sound of silence.

On top of the Pantokrator, and that is why everyone wants to get up there, is a monastery. In my humble opinion, the most beautiful of the island. Yearly, lots of tourists visit this place, so you'll never be there alone... Expect when you go in the beginning or the very end of the tourist season, like we did this year. My wife and I were the only two people up there. The tavern and shop were closed and even the abt (or monk) was't in the monastery.
So we lit a candle, walked around the monastery, and enjoyed the view you have from up the top of the mountain.

I know, lots of people are complaining about the ugly high antenna mast, but that's part of the whole view going up the hill. And we don't even see it anymore because it's sort of part of the monastery... And it makes it "One in a kind".

If you like a bit of a challenging excursion, and love long distance views or just going to the highest point of somewhere then Pantokrator will not disappoint - great place and you can get a beer!

“Quiet dominance”

The breathtaking view on the nearby islands and Balkan coast is absolutely worth spending the time to get there. Take an excellent Greek coffee in the cafe on these 900 meters to feel the southern calmness fully.
