“quirky hotel, ideal location”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

We stayed for 3 nights {July 2013} before travelling to Paxos. The hotel is in a perfect location, close to the port, 5 minutes by taxi to airport and adjacent to the old town. We had a room overlooking the harbour, which is a busy place, even by night {earplugs recommended for light sleepers}. The hotel is a wonderful Victorian building which has retained some lovely features, namely the lift and the spiral staircase with marble steps. The rooms are clean and simple and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We had a late flight and were met by the owner at 1.30 in the morning. Breakfast was simple and plentiful, the coffee and croissants were superb! We would recommend the hotel as it is ideal for exploring the narrow streets of the old town and is good value for money if you are on a tight budget.

Room Tip: rooms on the back are a lot quieter

Sorry, Konstantinoupolis, I love evocative old hotels, but you have got beyond evocative. The floors creek, the bathrooms are jerry-built afterthoughts, the decor is faded, the beds hard and lumpy, the entrance has all the charm of a government refuse disposal site. Think of Fawlty Towers combined with Steptoe and Son.

On the plus side, the old harbor to the north side of town is a nice quiet location, with great views. There are some nearby restaurants, but the walk into town is short and nice. So the location is fine.

But, and it is a big but. Sorry, Konstantinoupolis, but I cannot recommend any hotel that does not have a fire escape - especially one this tall. Yes, we have all heard of grandfather rights, but this has been going on for too long. Put in a fire escape, or close down.

There is a new hotel just one block to the east, which is very new and nice - a very ancient Greek decor. But prices will be 50% more than the Konstantinoupolis, so you pay your money and take your choice.

Room Tip: Try another hotel..... ;-(

The location between harbor and old city is ideal. The staff is friendly and forthcoming. The rooms are clean. The bed-sheets and the towels are changed every single day. If they would renew the beds and and cupboards instead, it would be perfect.

Opposite harbour and taxi rank. We were just doing a one night stop-over, before we caught the ferry to Paxos. Ideally situated for the ferry quay and for the old town. Nothing grand as far as the rooms are concerned, but adequate. Nice breakfast room.

We have stayed several times in this hotel.
It is ideal for a nice walk to the Liston, either via the harbour or the street, and it is handy for all the sights of the town.
The beds are Greek ie hard, but the rooms are not noisy, despite some of them facing the port.

Top Tip: Leave the bags downstairs at the entrance, and put them into the lift when you find out which floor you are on.

We stayed in this hotel in the beginning of May. Perfect location, but the rooms are a bit "tired" and the beds are made of "concrete", extremely hard. Not much sleep the night we stayed there because of this. But the staff was friendly an helpful and the breakfast was good! But due to the beds we will find another hotel next time in Corfu.

Just returned from a four night stay with breakfast at this reasonably priced hotel. Requested room on high floor with sea view and this was spectacular from the windows and small balcony in Room 402. Received a very warm welcome and found air conditioning to work well and new double glazing reduced noise from port area to ensure a good sleep. Floor boards creak but this is a characterful and historic hotel(1862) which is extremely well managed. Water was always hot.in room. Breakfast room was pleasant and provided a typical buffet of eggs, cheese, meat with a varied selection of breads, cake , croissant and preserves which were replenished regularly. Any request was met with a smile and the staff were both friendly and helpful at all times.
The hotel is well positioned on the edge of the old town within a short walk of the Liston and is close to excellent and reasonably priced tavernas such as Mouragia (sea and harbour views) and Pergola (liive bazouki and mainly local diners).Local cafes served great coffee and colourful brass bands were rehearsing locally. I really appreciated this truly Greek experience.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have long distance views to Albania and Greek mainland with passing ferries and shipp...
