Well, have just read the recent reviews on here and I'm shocked by some of them! We (partner and 21 month old daughter) were amongst the first guests to stay at the rebranded Thomson hotel and were suprised at how much we enjoyed the holiday. This was our first holiday abroad with the little one and we delierately chose a family hotel, to utilise the creche facitilies and 0-3 kids club that are few and far between. I would in no way recommend this hotel for singles, couples or anyone wanting the quiet life - but I would think that its clear Thomson don't either from the brochure!

Following a pleasant enough flight and a 15 minute transfer, we arrived at the hotel to check in alongside another 100 guests - and we were at the back of the queue! While this was a pain and the queue took a while before it was finally our turn to check in, the Thomson team helped us to carry our bags and talked us through what to expect.

Yes, the entertainment team could possibly be considered as 'overbearing' but this is a KIDS hotel. My 21 month old loved all of the activities and often just sat watching what was going on. We were advised by one of the team members that the hotel had failed to provide an entertainment team and the Thomson team stepped in at the last minute - they did a great job. Yes, the entertainment didnt start until 8.30, but dinner didnt start until 7.00 so we thought it was just right. The kids played by the stage and the kids reps often came out to play with the children in the evening which gave us time to relax for a while! And no one can deny the energy of the entertainment team - particularly 'Gregasauras' who never stopped and the kids clearly loved him. We also used the creche facilities and the reps did a fab job with my LO who loved painting and other activities - an opportunity for her to be out of the sun, and us to enjoy a couple of hours break (lets face it, it was a holiday for us too!)

In addition to the kids entertainment, there was plenty for adults to do during the day if needed. My partner participated in volley ball, water polo and even welly wanging - I chose the more relaxed approach and looked after the bags etc from the sunbed! The pool isnt big enough for the number of guest - this is where we were lucky in being the first guests as we were spoilt by being 3 of 150 guests for the first 5 days in a hotel that can hold 600. Definitely noticed a difference on the last 2 days! We always managed to get a sunbed by the pool, and there was no 'reserve your sunbed at 6am ' culture! If you do want to relax and not take part etc, there are PLENTY of sunbeds on the grassed area with views of the sea and the neary harbour.

Admittedly, the kids food section wasnt varied but the adults certainly was and my daughter enjoyed eating the same foods that we did and definitely didnt eat chips every night! Soup was always a winner for her and was fresh and a different variety each evening. Its also worth noting that the hotel provide fresh full fat milk in a morning so no need to worry about taking cartons for toddlers. The buffet was ideal having a LO with us as she could have a bit of everything and it didnt matter if she left stuff. Self service drinks throughout the day was also ideal and bottled water was supplied each day (along with having a fridge in your room to keep it chilled).

We were told it was a 30 min walk to Corfu town and although we never ventured out, we were told by many that its not a great walk and advised to use the bus/taxi.

We came away with only one complaint - the photo of the 'family room' in the Thomson brochure is not accurate. We discussed this on day 1 with the reps and they agreed with us and tried to get us moved. The hotel advised them that the type of room we were in was the same throughout the hotel. It was only on the last day that the rep we had originally spoke to advised us that he'd just found out the photo is a 'family room with partition' so watch out! The standard family room is not divided as shown but was still big enough for our needs - naughty Thomson will be made aware that I'm not happy about that but it was in no way the fault of the team at the Louis. However, the room we had was spotless and had 2 single beds, and twin beds.

Well done if you've made it this far, I didnt intend to waffle but the 14 strong Thomson team at this hotel are doing everything they can to make the hotel a success and considering we were dreading a family hotel following years of delierately visiting kid free hotels we had a fantastic time.

* Oh, and to the team at the Louis who are no doubt checking the reviews as they were desperate for feedback - keep up the fab work! *

Where do I start travelled with my 2 year and 3 year old and mother for a week of relaxation. FAMILY resort absolutely not entertainment doesnt start till 8.30pm and its only for half an hour for the kids so most people didnt actually see it as there kids were asleep by then. Food choice for kids terrible chips every night really. Swimming pools to small and have no idea how they are going to cope in high season. We got stuck in a lift for 35 mins one night the staff had no idea we were in there as there was an emergency phone but no actual phone handset in there just a cord hanging down!!!!

I have never wrote a bad review in my life for anything but I feel so strongly about this I have had to. If you have children do not go here

Dear guest,

We thank you for taking the time writing a review about Louis Kerkyra Golf.
We are very surprised to read your comments regarding entertainment for children. The hotel has recently been taken by Thomson Family Resort, and after refurbishing the hotel this year, it does meet the expectations of most of our guests travelling with their families. It has a mini-club, children’s playground, full animation programme, entertainment facilities and sports activities. Also 2 swimming pools, one exclusively for children.

Rest assured that your other comments have also been taken into consideration, especially the issue with the lift. It has been reported to the maintenance department immediately.

Best regards

My husband and I had been searching everywhere for a place to take our 3 year old son on his very first trip abroad. This hotel was ideal for our needs, all inclusive, the flight wasn't too long and the transfer from the airport was only 15 minutes away.
We were the very first guests of the summer season and were met by the whole Thompson Team who were extremely friendly. Check in to the room was really straight forward and the reception staff were excellent. On arrival to the room we were more than happy. The room was spacious, very clean and tidy.
Once in our room it was straight down to the pool terrace for dinner and, well what can I say about the food?? It was top quality, fresh and plenty of it!! There was a chef everyday at the BBQ making fresh kebabs, steaks etc, there was a Pizza Chef who was making fresh pizzas every 5 minutes with loads of different topping, Salad Bar with everything you could ever want on a salad as well as an area which was serving normal dinners. The drinks were just free flowing all the time, you can help yourself to beer and wine and soft drinks from 10am onwards together with an amazing aray of cocktails etc. The night time food was just as great with a different menu choice every night together with the Show Cook who was making food in front of you. The staff of the hotel are absolutely brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and they were excellent with our little boy.
Breakfast was out of this world, ranging from cereals to continental breakfast to a full english to yoghurt with fresh fruit (I think my husband and I had a 4 course breakfast, dinner and night time meal every day!!)
The Thompson Entertainment Team we found were quite overbearing, trying to get us to do activities, trying to get our little boy to go to Kids Club etc when all we wanted to do was laze around the pool enjoying the sun. However, this was easily fixable as there is a grassed area set away from the pool area, towards the beach, and we found that the people that just wanted to relax were more inclined to sit there and out of the way of the games etc. If you have a child over the age of 4 then The Thompson Team would be great but we found that from age 3 downwards then there was slightly less things.
I would almost definately go back to this hotel (if it wasn't for The Overbearing Thompson Team) as it is possibly the best hotel we've ever stayed in!!!!

We had a holiday here at the Louis Family Resort ( known then as the Kerkyra Golf Hotel ) in Alykes Potamos, Corfu in 2007, and it was absolutely marvellous.

We decided to book this great hotel again for a week from 06 May - 13 May 2011. This hotel is now part of the “Thomson Family Resorts programme 1st May - 31st Oct 2011 “.

Biggest mistake we ever made.

This hotel is not so much a hotel now, but instead is probably the biggest creche in Europe.
From the moment we arrived we simply couldn’t believe what was happening.

There are hundreds ( and I DO mean hundreds) of 6 year olds and under, running riot throughout the hotel whilst the parents ( intent on enjoying THEIR holiday ) completely ignore them. These parents have no consideration for anybody other than their selfish selves .
These children run wild throughout the dining room, lounge and bar areas, lifts, corridors and reception areas, screaming and shrieking at the tops of their voices.
They even poke their grimy little fingers into the food which is laid out for self service, one in particular taking great delight in poking his hand into 2 different jellies.

“ No Wayne (?) , you shouldn’t really do that” was the so called admonishment from the alleged parent

This dining room must be the only dining room in a four star hotel anywhere in the world, where if you want to enjoy your meal in a reasonable atmosphere, you have to wear ear-plugs.

One child , ( approx 3 years old) after playing and shrieking on the empty stage whist the multi tattooed parents sat out of sight at the bar, fell off and was hurt. It lay there screaming for a long time until the alleged mother came to rescue it.

There is no place in the hotel for decent people to have a quiet drink and a chat.
We gave up and went up our room…another mistake. The out of control children come screaming and shrieking along the corridor just as you are falling asleep.

However there is one good point….if you get up early enough to get into the dining room when it opens , you can enjoy your breakfast under what normal people would call reasonably quiet. The little sweethearts will be too tired out after their escapades of the previous day, and will still be asleep.

One quartet of people who had been holidaying at this hotel for 16 years were absolutely aghast at what was going on. Never again for them also. The thing is that they and the few other decent people at this hotel, will tell others about what is going on , who will then tell others ! I dread to think what this hotel will be like when the older children arrive in the summer months, Huge amounts of under age drinking no doubt, and probably even worse……

I managed to speak to 3 of the Louis group management team who were visiting the hotel and they seemed to bas appalled as we were by what was going on. I suggested that they immediately build a wall to separate the dining room and lounge bar areas into “adults only“. and “adults and children only“.

They didn’t have any immediate plans to do this, but it WILL have to happen if this hotel doesn’t sink without trace in a few years time.

In the meantime, I would suggest to any decent people thinking of going to this hotel, to get it in writing that this dreadful situation has been remedied in some form or other before booking.

Dear guest,

We would like to thank you for sharing your point of view and for having coming back to Louis Kerkyra Golf after a previous “marvellous” experience with us.

We are sorry to read your disappointment and we understand you.
As you know, from the beginning of May 2011, the hotel is part of the Thomson Family Programme. Therefore, its aim is to meet up the increasing demand of families, without jeopardizing the holiday of our other guests. You might be aware that any big changes in a hotel need some time of adaptation. Therefore, we ask for your understanding as you stayed at the very beginning of this new chapter for the hotel.
Our quality manager, who was one of the people you spoke to, passed on your suggestions to the management a long time ago and already many of them have been implemented. Without your help, this improvements would not have been possible.

So once again, thank you very much, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again.

Kind regards

Well this hotel was what we expected and more! We stayed for 10 nights from 6th May, 15 min transfer from airport, gorgeous views, very peaceful (or noisy depending on what you wanted). The gardens were very extensive, lots of little lizards running about for the kids to look at, lots of lovely fireflys in the trees at night (which at first I was a bit wary of!).

On arrival at the hotel there was a table set up with drinks on to have whilst waiting to check in, the reps introduced themselves etc and directed us to rooms. The room was a little disappointing in the fact it looked much bigger in the pictures but saying this it was very clean, airy with free aircon, a mini fridge with a bottle of water in and the bathroom was spacious. We were only on the 1st floor so no need to take the lift and we had a view of the back of the hotel which was fine.

The first thing we did was check out the kids clubs, the kids reps were extremely helpful, they went through the sign up procedure and gave us a detailed run down of the times and activities. The kids also got a free hat, tshirt and drink bottle. There were kids club sessions each morning except a Wednesday and drop in sessions 2 times on certain afternoons plus a couple of evening sessions (which you had to pay extra for, only 4 euro's). The kids reps had nicknames to make it easier for the children to remember and there was a big Thomson the Dog which would appear from time to time to see the kids.

Around the pool was great, but like someone else had said, not a lot of room. It was ok when we were there as it wasn't so busy but towards the end of our 10 days it got busier and we were saying it could be a problem in high season! Saying that though, there are piles of sunbeds that are free to use and you can put them basically anywhere, its very relaxed. We sunbathed on the grass a few times, on the (small) beach and by the childrens pool. The childrens pool was great, nice and quiet really as there wasn't much room for many sunbeds so once we got a space here we stayed for most of the day.

The food was brilliant, breakfast in the restaurant, dinner by the pool and tea in the restaurant, plus if you missed a meal there were snacks inbetween. You can also order a lunchbag if you are going out for the day. Self service drinks and ice cream also which was ideal, never had to queue at the bar.

About a 40min walk to Corfu Town, which was fine and a lovely walk, and about an hour the other way is Gouvia, which is a lovely little resort and there is another Louis Hotel here. There is also bus stops outside the hotel in both directions and it costs 2 euros to Gouvia (blue ticket), 1.50 euro to Corfu Town (pink ticket) or if you use the machine at the stop on the other side of the road the tickets are a little cheaper.

The entertainment wasn't brilliant due to the fact that Thomson had only been in the hotel for 2 weeks and the entertainment team wasn't fully set up, but this was explained to us and we didn't mind as we were in bed for half ten each night anyway with the kids!

There were a lot of improvements happening whilst we were there which was good to see, only little things but we could tell the management were happy to adjust things for Thomson. This hotel has never been a family resort before and I think a lot of the staff and returning guests weren't very happy at this. We got muttered at a few times from the restaurant staff when they had to clean up after the kids (our 4 yr old and friends 1 and 3 yr old) and sometimes there weren't enough high chairs. There were quite a lot of older couples complaining about kids running round etc and one lady even told the children to shush!!! But I feel these things will rectify themselves.

The weather was early 20's for first 2 days, rain on the monday, nicer on the tues and wed's, then on the Wednesday night we had the most spectacular thunderstorm! It came in over the sea from Albania (which you can see over the sea) and ended up at the hotel eventually hitting the generator and all the electric went off. The staff were very professional and carried on very calmly. It was out for about 2 hours but everyone seemed to bond together, had fun and eventually it came back on. The next day was over 30 degrees and that was the same for the rest of the holiday!

Hope I've not waffled too much there is loads more I could've written and will definitely return to this hotel!

Room Tip: We would pay extra for a sea view room next time

Fantastic grounds , very clean everywhere . decent rooms . Food fresh and varied . Very nice staff . Location is good if you want to be away from it all , there are no hotels either side which is nice , 5 minute drive from Corfu town which is worth visiting in the day and the evening . The hotel grounds are huge so there are plenty of areas to find yourself a nice place to put your sunbed and relax ! We have stayed here twice and both times had a great holiday . Great hotel if you like to relax in the sun in excellent grounds and want to be clos to Corfu town . Enjoy

Stayed here with 11 year old and 15 year old. Very disappointed with the location. Nothing around you so leaving the hotel on an evening was not an option. This meant we had to endure the Entertainment Team, greg, Laurie Sam and Darren every evening. Although they work hard became very tedious after the first couple of evenings.
Although All Inclusve and brochure ststed snacks from 10 til 11 there were no snacks between 10 and 12 or 3 and 6.
Hotel was clean but facilities poor. table tennis bats were of no use, an ignorant family decided to break the pool table, 2 astro turf areas but no football avai;able only volleyball. Who wants to play volleyball everyday??
I am usually very easyily pleased when on holiday but was overall disappointed
