“" Fantastic Hotel"”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

Had the pleasure of spending a week at this fantastic hotel at the end of May and had a most relaxing time!! The standard of cleanliness and service was outstanding!! We were lucky to have a suite which had all the comforts of home, comfy sofa and furniture on one level and downstairs the most amazing open plan bedroom with steps leading to a massive sunken bath and separate shower cubicle!! In the height of summer this would be a real plus as the room was always cool. The pool and gardens were also beautiful overlooking the sea.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to bars and shops and a further 20 minutes to Afitos, a traditional Greek village with lovely restaurants and bars. A taxi home at night cost 5 euros.
If you're looking for a relaxing break, somewhere to unwind and CHILL this is the place!! ENJOY!!

Lovely quiet hotel, well set back from a quiet back road. The pool was never crowded, plenty of room for all. Kalithea itself was quiet, .but only a short walk, with some good tavernas and restaurants.

Room Tip: A room view although extra is well worth it.

We were met by a waving man on the steps of the hotel as we stepped off the bus from the airport, introducing himself as George (the owner), who kindly took our case & showed us personally to our room. Oh what a view! We had a corner room, very spacious, which had a double-sided balcony; one side overlooking the pool, the other pine trees but the turquoise blue Aegean Sea breaking through them! Glorious to wake up to every morning along with the sunshine.
A precarious walk down through the trees to the beach which I wouldn't recommend to anyone with walking or breathing difficulties!
The hotel itself is small, perfect for friendliness. The staff all pleasant but not obtrusive. Not much going on though, but we wanted a relaxing break in the sun so this was ok for us. It is a very clean hotel, the lady cleans every day without fail.
Nearby Kalithea is quite commercial and built up with so many fur coat shops! Yes in Greece! (The Russians are there!) so nothing traditional to see there, but the village of Afytos was lovely. About 25 minutes to walk or 5 mins & €5 later you are there. Small streets and tavernas with lovely eateries all around. Recommend Sobaro bar & restaurant.
I would recommend Country Inn if you want a relaxing holiday with lovely staff in a beautiful part of the world.

Room Tip: Top floor sea view

I chose this hotel partly on the strength of its Tripadvisor reviews, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a lovely place and everything is maintained to a very high standard. Gardens, pool, dining area, bedrooms - I really can't find serious fault anywhere. I can honestly say I've never stayed in a nicer hotel, or indeed a cleaner one. Rooms are simple but beautifully appointed, with full sized fridges and plenty of space for clothes and belongings. They all have very generously proportioned balconies, so that guests have an outdoor room as well as a bedroom. We paid a little extra to have a sea view (or rather, a peek at the sea through a fringe of pine trees) but all of the rooms are good. Special mention must go to Ludmila, who keeps everything squeaky, show-room clean. Not for her a quick flick with a cloth and a prayer: she's not content until everything is gleaming.

Breakfast is simple but good. It's served in the pool bar, which has a lovely view over the sea. Be aware, however, that it is partially open to the elements. This must be lovely in the heat of summer, but unfortunately our spring break turned out to be a little on the cool side. (This is, of course, the risk you take if you decide to visit outside of high season!) I'd advise anyone who is planning an early or late break to pack a jumper along with the beachwear. Even hot spring and autumn days can have cold mornings and evenings.

The great advantage of visiting in the spring, however, is that you see the countryside at its best. It is well worth hiring a car and getting out to explore some of it. We enjoyed seeing Sithonia, the middle peninsula which is almost completely wild, and driving to Ouranopoli, the nearest the public can get to the restricted area of Mount Athos. On a more practical level, a car allows you to stack up some keenly priced goodies from the local Lidl, which is situated on the main road between Afitos and Kalithea.

Kalithea, which is just up the road from the hotel, is a rather plain seaside town that has grown up almost entirely to cater for tourism. We enjoyed visiting the pedestrianised area, however, and sitting down outside one of the many cafes. Afitos, which is around a twenty minute walk from the hotel, is a pretty village that has a bit of history to it. This is somewhat unusual in Halkidiki. Most of the towns and villages are fairly modern. Many date from the 1920s, when Greek settlers in Asia Minor had to return to Greece.

About the walk down to the beach: I notice there are a few moans about this on Tripadvisor. How you feel about it probably depends on how you spent your formative years. If family holidays meant hearty walks in the Welsh hillsides, or yomping across Dartmoor while your parents shouted 'come on, you Big Girl's Blouse, it's only a bit of mud!', then you will probably wonder why on earth anyone would find a few rustic steps down to a beach to be a problem. If, however, you have been used to resorts where guests don't have to do anything much more than lift a glass, then it may be more of a challenge. One thing is for certain: climb the steps often enough and you will tone muscles you didn't know you had. Some reviewers have said that they used the rather more de luxe steps belonging to the neighbouring hotel, and that this was permitted. Since the way through has now been barricaded and newly planted with a hedge, I gather than things are no longer so cordial.

The Country Inn Hotel is a great place for a holiday if you want a peaceful, relaxing break. I'd happily return - perhaps a little later in the season next time.

Things to pack:

A large, fluffy towel. For use by the pool - but you may also find it makes your morning shower a little more luxurious.

A torch, if you intend going out on foot after dark. Street lighting is sparse in some places.

A light jacket or jumper, if you're visiting outside of the main season.

A note for anyone who intends to arrive by car:

The hotel is set well back on a country road and there is no name sign at the bottom of the drive. Make sure you know what you're looking for (a picture of the building taken from the road is posted amongst the Tripadvisor photos on this site). The hotel next door is called 'Nostos' and DOES have a sign!

We are currently on our last day at the country inn, and it really is as good as all the reviews say it is!
The staff are amazing and I have never been to a cleaner hotel.
Breakfast overlooking the blue sea is breathtaking, and the standard of food is very good, even for a fussy eater like myself!
Rooms are simple, but nicely finished and there are real double beds! Not two singles pushed together and a shock in the night when you slide down the middle! Only issue is the size of the shower, for me a small 5ft3 the shower was JUST big enough, but my partner a large 6ft5 builder, the shower was not, many a swear word was uttered when he kept banging knees and elbows.
Overall a perfect holiday in a perfect hotel :) we will be coming back soon!

Stayed here for the 6th time also July 2013. What can you say. Everything was once again outstanding!!!! Rooms are perfect, bedding and towels changed daily, and are perfectly serviced by Ludmilla, the long standing cleaner, who works tirelessly to ensure everything is spotless for the guests. George the owner runs the hotel in an extremely guest friendly manner. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him, and he is a credit to this hotel, which he owns. Nikos the barman from 4pm looks after his clients in a superb and super friendly fashion, serving up lovely drinks always with a good laugh and a joke. Aggi is the cook, where she serves up quality bar meals which are very reasonably priced, and very tasty, you can have traditional Greek or something more simple, depending on what your taste buds want!!!!! A short walk too to the beach and a five min stroll to Kalithea or a five euro taxi ride to Afytos which is a beautifully traditional Greek village with a lot of tavernas and bars. All in all, 2014.will be our 7th visit here. We cannot fault it as its just the perfect holiday. Roll on July 2014!!!!!

The Country Inn is now becoming a home from home. Even after six stays the magic is still there.
The owner George greats you like a member of the family, even his Dad Kristos gave me a double cheek kiss this year which I don't even get from my own family.
The staff this year were the same as last Katerina Nik Aggy and Ludmillar all remembered us and made our stay that much more memorable. Needless to say we have already booked for June next year. This time due to a previous commitment we went in September and although it was cooler in the evenings we still got our share of sunshine.
Roll on June I say.

Arthur

Room Tip: Summer visitors may favour a sea facing room as they are cooler in the evening.
