Thessaloniki: 5 out of 5
First off, I MUST say this:
DO NOT TRUST THE « GETTING THERE » SECTION PROVIDED BY TRIP ADVISOR (with Google Map)!!!
I printed it along with the info (payments details, check in/check out time, etc...) and the address on top of the map was WRONG. This wrong info got us to get off the (overcrowded) bus too far and walk with our luggage in the hot sun, much more than what it should have been.
And that’s beside the fact that I inadvertently found the same place advertised for LESS on another site; Trip Advisor takes a bigger cut!
NOT NICE, TRIP ADVISOR!
You already give us titles and points that serve no purpose at all now this…?
This being said, let me tell you about THE ARCHITECT’S APARTMENT.
The place IS not far from a bus stop (I found out later) and is REALLY well located. Walking distance to many interesting places: museums, shops, restaurant, police station (if you need them…).
Supermarket literally right across the street!
Clean all over.
Air conditioning in one part of the “triple” living room in the front (named like this because it is a double one on one side of the apartment and there is another single part on the other side). There are comfortable sofa beds where people can sleep (my husband did, needing more air-conditioning…) and cable T.V. too. A balcony covered with a retractable awning, plants, a table and chairs invites you for coffee in the morning.
There is a closed bedroom in the back with no air-conditioning but the ceiling fan did the job for me. The bed is not a king-size bed; it’s a queen-size one, I guess everything being small in Europe, a queen-size bed might look big to them…) but it was comfortable too and additional blankets were provided in a drawer underneath it. There is a good size closet with hangers. There was an ironing board an iron as well.
The bathroom was clean: big shower, towels, shampoo, and a washing machine (with detergent and softener provided). There is a clothesline out the back balcony. Tall persons be warned (6’6” + or 1,98m. +): the ceiling is low compared to the rest of the apartment!
The kitchen is functional (the stove was not in function due to security reasons but they fixed this by leaving us two electric burners). The fridge is of medium size and the table is for 4. One thing I would add since there is no air-conditioning in that part of the apartment is a fan (I suggested it for the next renters).
I cannot finish this without mentioning how NICE and REALLY CARING Panos’s sister and parents are. Panos couldn’t be there but the rest of his family did everything (actually went beyond expectations) to make sure we would enjoy our stay. We actually DID enjoy and are now reminiscing wonderful memories.
