“Don`t stay there!!!”
Reviewed 14 May 2012

It is a dirty and old hotel with rude staff. Bathroom was filthy and almost damaged. Beds and blankets were dirty and at least 60 years old. Breakfast was terrible. The location is so and so.

The hotel is near the city center, excellent location The staff were helpful, yet not as pleasant as I expected. However, the rooms are comfortable and clean. The breakfast is excellent, everything is fresh and delicious, rich and it exceeded my expectations.

Not impressed with this hotel. The refurbishment only applied to the reception area and the restaurant where the breakfast was served. The furniture in the room was old,as well as the A/C. The fridge only worked when u were in the room, and for that reason we were advised to have 2 cards (one to enter the room and the other to always have inside the room) but every day the cleaning ladies kept taking the 2nd card despite having been informed from day 1!! Also, when checking in realised there was no TV remote control, I had to go down to reception, told me they would send one but didn't until I called again after 2 hours. i understand these are not major problems but at some point it got really annoying having to call them regularly. Other than that, the room was clean, wifi worked, breakfast was very good and location in a busy street very close to bus stop. Staff in the reception could have been more friendly, not so rigid.
Overall,I don't think I will return to Metropolitan hotel as I feel there are better hotels in Thessaloniki at this price.

Room Tip: Ask for a second card so that the fridge is working, even if u are not in the room

I booked this hotel at a big discount from its standard rates via an online travel site. I suggest everyone do this same. If one pays a lot more for this hotel, then I would give it less stars. Room was clean, wi fi worked (even on the 6th floor), and had TV, A/C, and a fridge. Breakfast is good, with many options: cereal, fruit cocktail, bread, jams, mini croissants, cheese and ham, omelets, sunny side up eggs, and hard boiled eggs, as well as little cheese and spinach pies, and a few other things. One complaint is that the shower was a handheld one, and there was no way to attach the showerhead above you (and no it was not even the case that it had once been there and was broken, it just was never designed that way), which is surprising for a hotel like this. Location of hotel is good, not directly in the center, but still quite close, walkable or else a short bus or taxi ride away. Also, bus 78 (from the airport) stops on the same block as the hotel, which is very convenient if you want to say money on a taxi, or if there is a taxi strike. (the bus is only 80 euro cents!)

Worth for the money. I paid 49eur for double bed room with breakfast and child free.
Positive: good breakfast, nice restaurant , big rooms, good beds, clean bedclothes, free space for parking near hotel
Negative: unclean carpet, suspicious towels and toilet
All in all I will go again for 1 or 2 nights but for longer I recommend hotels with 4 or 5 stars because in Greece as per my experience hotels have 1 star more than deserve.

I have visited more than 150 cities in 60 countries and stayed in more than 300 hotels, and I have never before visited a hotel with such a vast distance between promise and delivery.

As arrived late in the evening and had plans for the full next day, we decided to give the hotel a chance, which we severely regretted.

In the description of the hotel it was called modern and renovated, which is a far cry from the truth. Old and noisy air cons not working properly leaving the rooms at +30 degrees Celsius, power outlets not working, soft beds, dirt under the beds, lamps hanging loose from the wall etc.

The so called refurbishment of the hall and elevator is of same standard as the Greek economy. Scratch a little in the surface and it all breaks down,,,

The breakfast was of equal standard with offerings of day old and dry bread, warm milk for the corn flakes and eggs that have been warmed for so long, they were grey and not yellow inside. No silverware and glasses to find, and had to ask a waiter, who without a word and with a grumpy look on the face finds 3(!) knifes and glasses for the buffet (with more than 10 people eating!). As the next person had to ask for glasses again a few minutes later the grumpy face on the staff became even more annoyed.

After deciding to leave this rather unpleasant hotel a day earlier than originally advised to the hotel, the receptionist refuses to let me check out unless I want to pay for the last day as well claiming I had signed a non refundable booking. When he could not prove this he instead started to use a lot of other excuses, while in best Greek style explaining he was only doing it for me to avoid trouble!! It took a total of 45 minutes and me having to raise my voice before I could check out of the hotel and only paying for the two nights I spend there.

I must say that the staff is the most unfriendly I have met, and the hotel is very run down and the pictures on the net must have been shot by a photographer very capable of using lights and Photoshop.
