“One of things Thessaloniki is known about!”

Reviewed 21 March 2012

If you are into monuments, museums and tours in the city, then Thessaloniki will be your element. Lots of monuments around the city, most of them very well preserved and "visitable"!

A great part (not all) of the history of the city all close to each-other at the old center of the city, gteat pieces of art, interesting architecture, a unique travel back in time.

Thessaloniki has sooo much history behind it and it's so beautifully affected by all that history. The cobalt streets and the old churches, along with the old buildings create a magic atmosphere around this town.

If you are planning to take a walk around Thessaloniki, make sure you visit the St. Demetrius's church, he is the patron saint of Thessaloniki. Add to your list the 'Kastra' (castles) at the edge of the hill overlooking Thessaloniki, in the part of 'Ano Poli'. In the city centre you will come across the 'Kamara' or 'Galleriu's Arch' which is a very popular meeting point. Take a close look to the detail sculpture on it. Right behind it is the 'Rotonda' or 'Galleriu's Tomb'. Then walk down to 'Kamara' again and walk on Dimitriou Gounari street or 'Navarinou' as it is more commonly known. As you walk down you will see the 'Ancient Agora' ruins in the middle of the walking-free area.

All in all Thessaloniki is one of the most interesting places you can visit. Every corner has a bit of history. I love it!
