“Great location, spacious room, worst breakfast ever, bathrooms need renovation! Too expensive for Ikaria”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

Our room had the amazing view of Massakti beach. It's really quiet and loved the scenic view at night!

Breakfast was the worst I've ever had! Very basic and poor quality when you pay at least 70euros for the basic room! They offer only filter coffee and you pay at least 3euros extra for any other coffee, including Frape! No fruits, no pie or sweets or even cakes; of course, no fresh juice! We had breakfast there only once an d then had to find other places to have good breakfast!

Bathrooms definitely need renovation! They put new towels every 2 days! On our first day there, we didn't know that they don't put fresh towels on a daily basis, so we dropped the towels on the floor! When we came back the cleaning ladies had put them again in the bathroom for the second use!

At least, service is good. They are very kind.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room at the price of the standard (they give it when you book for many days), awa...

Very nice, spacious and comfortable rooms with a splendid view to the turquoise sea. The managers and the workers were very kindly and friendly and give us a lot of information about authentic greek events that we could enjoy. Its possible to rent a car from the hotel with a very good price. Also, Messikti is in a very strategic point of Ikaria, over the best sandy, familiar and sportive beach. We'll come again!

Room Tip: Higher rooms have a very nice sea and mountain view. Rooms near the swimming pool are most familiars...

We're just back from 10 days at the Messakti Village and have to say we will go again. Can't beat this for location, and the pool is just lovely, really big and nicely deep. The staff can't do enough to try to please. We slept brilliantly each night, it's so peaceful. While I can see where some of these more negative reviews are coming from, let me try to put them in perspective: Yes, there's a fan instead of air con, which we were a bit dubious about. But it was fine, we were surprised ourselves that we didn't overheat at night. Yes, the breakfast would benefit from some fresh fruit. But it's adequate, and what's on offer is good, especially the yoghurt. Yes, there is no tv - but we didn't want to watch tv on a greek island so that didn't bother us. And we four the wifi worked fine outside (not inside, probably because of the thick walls) it even stretched to the beach. We don't mind not having new towels and sheets each day, it's not necessary and we like helping to save water. And yes, there is ths odd insect, but it's a Greek island for goodness sake. The location, as said, is perfect - a moment from a caribbean-style beach, with a couple of beach bars, and a short walk from several small tavernals right on the water, or a Cornish-style fishing village in the other direction. If you want complete relaxation, a chance to recharge, and can manage without five star luxury, then go here.

Room Tip: If you're keen to have a full sea view specify when you book - some rooms have a slightly obscur...

Well, I won't bore you with a very lengthy review.. Just the basics:

1) location: truly amazing, breathtaking view from the upper rooms, close to 2 villages
2) beach: the best I have seen for a long time... 20 metres away.. green waters, clean sand, perfect..
3) price: a bit overpriced, but try to bargain before booking (over the phone), especially if you go there on July or - even more - during June.
4) rooms: minimalistic, in need for renovation
5) cleaning: every 2 days they change the sheets and the towels, every day they do a very very basic cleaning of the room
6) breakfast : a joke, it would be better if they just stopped serving it altogether. Seriously, I have been around, and I have never come across a worse breakfast buffet than this.. I could not find a single thing I wanted to eat again..
7) service: very friendly staff, eager to help whenever they can

Thats my 2 cents on Messakti Village.

:-)

Room Tip: try to ask for the higher (altitude) rooms

I stayed in Messakti Village hotel in the island of Ikaria (near the village of Armenistis) for 4 days in the beginning of July.
The plus to stay there are:
1) A really beautiful village, very traditional and colourful scenery.
2) Friendly and smiling personel. They try to help you with anything you need 24h/day.
3) The Messakti beach (very long, very clean with white sand and the sea very clean as well) is on your feet (literally!).
4) The hotel pool is very clean too with of course a beautiful view of the beach.
5) The rooms have big terraces with sea view.

The minus are:
1) My room's phone was dead and there was no tv (only in the hotel's lounge) but personally I didn't care. I was out all day long...
2) The rooms don't have a/c, only a big ceiling fun, but it wasn't noisy and kept the room in a good temperature. Along with the night breeze, there was no problem.

So, I really enjoyed staying there, I adored the quietness but I think that if you are really really dependent on tv and a/c, you shouldn't stay in this hotel.

This is a beautifully located hotel in front of an amazing beach - i have stayed there for a few years in a row, purely due to its ideal location and the fact that in Ikaria you tend to ignore bad services as there are so many other things to appreciate and make you happy. However I do feel obliged to write this review. It is more than obvious that the owners of this hotel are treating it as a cash cow, spending nothing on renovations and maintenance while charging ridiculous rates for what they offer. Some rooms do have amazing views, however all of the rooms are just so badly maintained. I do realize and understand that it is natural to have a few insects and small reptiles in such areas but it is also really easy and cheap to try and prevent them from entering the room. And no, a door raised 2 inches from the ground is not exactly pest control.
Their breakfast is to laugh at. By far the worst breakfast experience I have ever had - and I have seen quite a few places around the world. Also, you cannot say your hotel has wifi when its only accessible 2 meters from the reception desk and offers the dizzy speeds of 64kbps at its best. The overall experience is really disappointing but the beauties and the overall lifestyle of the island pay you back. Needless to say I will not be staying there again as Ikaria has so many places with a better value for money ratio.
