“Nature at it's best”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

After a long and winding road from Eresos, you will come upon a lovely Museum with some select findings and then you must go outside to discover these natural wonders in situ. This side of the island is extremely dry and sort of moonscape in feel. In the summers you won't find much in the way of vegetation just blistering sun...take plenty of water for your explorations while you admire these unique pieces of history

“Must see!”
Reviewed 30 August 2013

It was a great and unique experience. Being on the island where there is a petrified forest and the only other place where you can see something similar is in Arizona, you must find time to visit.
It was very interesting and shows you a part of Lesvos that you did not know existed. Even the drive there was interesting with beautiful and unique landscapes.
You must not forget to bring sunscreen with you!!

“A great walk to the past.”
Reviewed 13 August 2013

We visited the Forest last month and it was absolutely great . You can see even whole trees turned to stone through a procedure lasted more than 20M years, which makes the experience and the pictures that comes to your mind even greater and unique. It's a one a kind sightseeing that nobody visiting Lesvos should miss.
entrance : adults 2 euro, kids for free .
During summer time , visit early in the morning or be prepared for a lot of sun .

“Come prepared with sunscreen”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

Three different tracks to take, depending how long you've got/how long you can stand the heat with little shade. We were really grateful for the small huts that provided shade to cool down in between petrified trees. Some were really impressively large, and some weren't. We were surprised at how some were totally roped off and signs said not to touch, then others were completely open (great for photo opportunities). Lots of books about the place on offer at the entrance, along with a nice man selling cold drinks. Buy one before you begin - you'll need another again by the time you've finished. If nature appeals to you, you'll love it. If not, you might not enjoy this. Limited toilet facilities. Go early in the morning before the heat, if possible. We went in June, and it was already boiling hot.
