“Beautiful and diverse resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

We stayed one week at this resort. The Makryammos beach is very beautiful and the water so clear! It was quite exhausting to reach the bungalow, as it is situated on the hillside but the view from there was beautiful. The staff drove the luggage to and from the bungalow which was helpful.
The breakfast and dinner buffets were surprisingly good with many different options every day. The staff in the restaurant and bar was very good! After one day we realized that renting a car is a must at Thassos if you want to explore something (to get to Limenas is farther than you may think). If you rent a car you should definitely go to the marble beach (at sand road to the right of the resort entrance will bring you there). The resort itself has a beautiful garden, a large pool, tennis and basket court and playing grounds for children. You will find enough of things to do to spend a great day at the resort alone! The only negative point was that our room was cold and humid.

This hotel is definitely not for anyone with a walking disability, as it is set amongst a hillside pine forest. The town is also just over 2 km away and the taxi fare is 6 euro's each way, Most people walk down the hill to town and catch a cab back.
The four star rating is well justified for the time I was a guest there in the early part of the season, with only a few exceptions.
The bungalows are in blocks of four or five which are co-joined and are scattered on the hillside, with meals taken in the main hotel bordering the beach.
The buffet provided for breakfast was excellent with more choice than I expected, Dinner was also superb with several mains on offer that differed on every night of my two week stay
The staff are superb and all very friendly.
Bungalows all have a safe, fridge, a tv which has the BBC news channel and air conditioning which works only when the patio doors are closed. All these services were free of charge.
Linen is changed regularly and is very clean. I found that any problem within the property was dealt with within 24 hours.
All entrances to the bungalows have a lockable front door with the same arrangement for each inner door, though on two occasions it was left unlocked by staff. Rooms all have insect screens attached to windows and doors which keep insect bites to a minimum.
Luggage is delivered to the property after check-in, but sadly if you leave early in the morning you have to take it yourself or have it locked up in the car park facility overnight. I think management need to address this problem by offering an early morning service.
The only downsides I found were the usual non- flush toilet paper problem familiar to most Greek properties, and that people who smoked were allowed to do this under the covered way dining area, between the main restaurant and the outside dining area, which meant that I had to dine in the main restaurant to escape the smoke.
The other thing to mention is the charge to some guests on lower tariffs, of the beach beds and umbrellas, private umbrellas are not allowed, though the poolside facilities are free.
A car hire service is provided by Avis from hotel reception and is much cheaper than that provided by holiday reps.
I must also mention the beautiful peacocks that roam the grounds feeding off tit-bits provided by guests.
All in all a lovely hotel with beautiful views, but it is obviously much busier in the peak season.
Will I go again? Definitely but out of season.

Room Tip: Hope to get a bungalow near the bottom of the hill.

We stay 11 days at Makryammos in the beginninf of september 2013, very good location, the sea and the beach are like in the official photos but the services are not for a 4 star. They don't have gym, indoor pool and spa services. The kids activities are 0.Even if you stay in the resort you pay for 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella 7 euro The food it is ok but poor variety. Go there if you want only to swim, to snorkell and stay on the beautiful beach like us, but if you want spa, variety of food, respect and smiley faces go in Turkey.

Room Tip: Don't buy a standard room with bunk bed.

Room Tip: I would advise everybody to book superior bungalows! They are great!!!

We booked this hotel because the Hotel Alexandra Beach (our 1st choice) was fully booked.
I can honestly say we were pleasantly surprised with the Makryammos as it very much exceeded our expectations (being a lower star accommodation than our 1st choice).
The Makyrammos is quite close to the ferry drop off point (being in Thasos Town) so no long coach journey to endure!
Once you arrive at the Makyrammos the views are spectacular! When you look down from the hillside to the beach, it's just like looking at a Carribean beach - lovely. Another couple on the coach were very excited to arrive at the Makyrammos as they had discovered this place during the previous years stay when they stayed at a different hotel but visited the Makyrammos every day.
Anyway, the food was great! the service was great! the accomodation was clean and spacious with free aiconditioning (great!) beds where a little firm. One point to make when booking here, it is on a hillside so if you are a little unfit it will kill you walking back up to your bungalow! try and get a low down one (especially if you have little children and pushchairs). I think the one we stayed in was 324 which was ok.
The beach was so lovely we went down every day and not once went in the pool (i'm usually a pool person). The sea was so clear, warm and quite shallow for a long way out (great for kids). It was just like the Carribean! When the sea was gentle (which was most of the time with the occassional jump the waves day) they would put out the huge water tramoline and slide (which was supervised by staff (great fun).
The restuarant was very well stocked and managed by the various waiters (all very polite and friendly). Food always very pleantiful and food quality (a pleasure to dine). The wasps were a slight problem if you sat outside.
The beach bar was great! the fruit smoothies are a must or any fruit drink for that matter as they make it all fresh to order. There are lots of cool places to sit around the beach bar (4 poster bed style sunloungers).
There is a bar at the end of the beach which is above the separate resturant. Very chilled of an evening, epecially with a cocktail looking out to the sea.
Childrens entertainment looked quite good.
At then end of the beach (on the resort) you can catch the little boat of an evening into Thasos Town which is worth doing for a change at here are pleantly of restuants and shops to see. We did this and then took a taxi back (quite cheap). The little boat has other trips to beaches but you may find this one is the best of all!.
For those of you who like cats, there were a few around with their young. We took little bits of food out of the resturant and topped up their water bowls. They do not belong to anyone which is a shame :-( but they are quite gentle and the kittens quite timid and tend to hide in the bushes until they get a bit bigger. Carefull about feeding them during the morning or the day as the wasps arrive quite quickly! I was stung on the bottom of my foot which was agony and felt like my foot had been chopped off! (best feed of an evening when the wasps are sleeping :-).
If you go to the beach and want a couple of beds and a sun brolley (which is huge) it will cost & Euros a day. We though this was very good because the room airconditioning and safe are free so it wiorks out quite well. You can book the same beds all week if you like and are given a key to you area, they give you a day free if you book for the week (we should have done this as we went every day but paid daily).
Overall, this was a great place to stay! We think the Makryammos have got it just about right.
No annoying reps trying to get you into the entertainment or noisey music around the pool (not that we went to the pool but you know what I mean).
We will DEFFINATELY be going back here again (next time for 2 weeks) it was the best relaxing holiday we've had for a long time! :-)
Forgot to say, the Peacocks wandering around were amusing and the dears were simply DEAR (cute)
Just one tip for the Makryammos: - We noticed you have a board with photos and letters (from guests) of the Makyrammos when it first opened and a fews years after. It would be good to continue the theme into the currnet time as you will have pleanty of good stuff to add to it.

Room Tip: Choose one which is near the main building (something like 3xx or 2xxx) as the rooms go quite high u...

Completely in the middle of the nature and close to the resorts in other countries. The air was so fresh thanks to the pine wood. I looked on other locations in Thassos and i didn't find any other better looking place than these Bungalows.
