“Excellent accomodation”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

We booked a 2 week holiday via Thomson online, and found the whole experience excellent (We have not been on a 'package holiday' for 20 years ! we usually book everything ourselves)
Flights and Transfers (which include a 40 minute car ferry ride) were a breeze.

The accommodation was excellent, in air conditioned bungalows extending up the hillside. Be warned some of the bungalows can be quite a walk up steps, we by chance were allocated Superior bungalows which were about 100 meters away from pool/beach. When we go again I will ensure we have Superior or Delux bungalows. One negative comment, the beds were very hard, we asked for extra blankets on top of mattress, which they obliged with. Rooms cleaned daily, with fresh towels and sheets regularly.

The layout is similar to some of the Caribbean All-inclusive resorts, ie: Pool and eating facilities spread along its own beach, giving the whole cove a private feel, there are no other hotels or accommodation here.
The beach is clean, the water is crystal clear, and shallow, for a long way out, making it very safe for children, and there is a life guard on duty (who swims about a mile before he starts and after he finishes!)

Restaurant is buffet style for breakfast, with large selection of hot and cold and fresh cooked eggs and pancakes. Dinner is buffet style with soup, several hot selections, lots of salad and fruit choice. It is not quite Royal Caribbean Windjammer, but it is very good. Be aware that in Greece there appears to be NO restriction on smoking ANYWHERE, so it you prefer your food without cigarette smoke, get a table by the edge of the outdoor restaurant (this goes for everywhere on the island)
There is an additional Taverna on the property, which is chargeable (e80 for 5 people and wine).
There are 4 bars, with walk up or waited service, and the drinks were cheaper than the restaurants in Thassos town. (e2 for a small beer or soft drink)

The resort is located just outside Thassos town, it can be walked in 20 mins, there is a free mini bus to take you there in the morning, or a taxi costs 6 euro each way. There are water taxis in the morning to Golden Beach, and in the evening to Thassos town. If you are there for 2 weeks, it is worth hiring a car for a couple of days to see the wonderful Island, there are still some Greek villages to be found, and some quiet fishing villages with Tavernas for a relaxing lunch.

The beach has plenty of Sunbeds in pairs with umbrellas, book them at reception, e7 per day. They allocate you a numbered pair, and give you a key to unlock / lock them, this works well.

We visited in early July 2014, there were very few English people there, mainly eastern Europeans.

This was our first return to Greece for 20 years, and our first with children, we wanted somewhere with 4 star feel and comforts, but also somewhere unspoilt by large hotels, overcrowding, and the 'Full English Breakfast'. I believe Thassos still has this, and Makryammos offers the perfect balance. We will be going again.

My 11yr old liked:
The massive trampoline in the water, the inflatable rock slide in the water, the buffet breakfast and dinner.

My 7yr old liked:
Warm shallow sea, sandy beach, Trampoline, The kids club, feeding the deer with water melon.

Room Tip: Beachfront suites, Delux (close to beach), Superior (100 meters walk to beach up steps), Standard (q...

We come here at the pool bar and we leave the kid in the indoor playground, so we could have a rest. There is a separate pool for small children. However, there are plenty of sites for entertainment. The entrance in the bungalows is paid 3€ per person; two sunbeds with umbrella at the beach is paid 7€ a day, which is a non-sense for me. The bungalows are too expensive, I'd never book there.

We stayed one week at this resort. The Makryammos beach is very beautiful and the water so clear! It was quite exhausting to reach the bungalow, as it is situated on the hillside but the view from there was beautiful. The staff drove the luggage to and from the bungalow which was helpful.
The breakfast and dinner buffets were surprisingly good with many different options every day. The staff in the restaurant and bar was very good! After one day we realized that renting a car is a must at Thassos if you want to explore something (to get to Limenas is farther than you may think). If you rent a car you should definitely go to the marble beach (at sand road to the right of the resort entrance will bring you there). The resort itself has a beautiful garden, a large pool, tennis and basket court and playing grounds for children. You will find enough of things to do to spend a great day at the resort alone! The only negative point was that our room was cold and humid.

This hotel is definitely not for anyone with a walking disability, as it is set amongst a hillside pine forest. The town is also just over 2 km away and the taxi fare is 6 euro's each way, Most people walk down the hill to town and catch a cab back.
The four star rating is well justified for the time I was a guest there in the early part of the season, with only a few exceptions.
The bungalows are in blocks of four or five which are co-joined and are scattered on the hillside, with meals taken in the main hotel bordering the beach.
The buffet provided for breakfast was excellent with more choice than I expected, Dinner was also superb with several mains on offer that differed on every night of my two week stay
The staff are superb and all very friendly.
Bungalows all have a safe, fridge, a tv which has the BBC news channel and air conditioning which works only when the patio doors are closed. All these services were free of charge.
Linen is changed regularly and is very clean. I found that any problem within the property was dealt with within 24 hours.
All entrances to the bungalows have a lockable front door with the same arrangement for each inner door, though on two occasions it was left unlocked by staff. Rooms all have insect screens attached to windows and doors which keep insect bites to a minimum.
Luggage is delivered to the property after check-in, but sadly if you leave early in the morning you have to take it yourself or have it locked up in the car park facility overnight. I think management need to address this problem by offering an early morning service.
The only downsides I found were the usual non- flush toilet paper problem familiar to most Greek properties, and that people who smoked were allowed to do this under the covered way dining area, between the main restaurant and the outside dining area, which meant that I had to dine in the main restaurant to escape the smoke.
The other thing to mention is the charge to some guests on lower tariffs, of the beach beds and umbrellas, private umbrellas are not allowed, though the poolside facilities are free.
A car hire service is provided by Avis from hotel reception and is much cheaper than that provided by holiday reps.
I must also mention the beautiful peacocks that roam the grounds feeding off tit-bits provided by guests.
All in all a lovely hotel with beautiful views, but it is obviously much busier in the peak season.
Will I go again? Definitely but out of season.

Room Tip: Hope to get a bungalow near the bottom of the hill.

We stay 11 days at Makryammos in the beginninf of september 2013, very good location, the sea and the beach are like in the official photos but the services are not for a 4 star. They don't have gym, indoor pool and spa services. The kids activities are 0.Even if you stay in the resort you pay for 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella 7 euro The food it is ok but poor variety. Go there if you want only to swim, to snorkell and stay on the beautiful beach like us, but if you want spa, variety of food, respect and smiley faces go in Turkey.

Room Tip: Don't buy a standard room with bunk bed.
