We booked a 2 week holiday via Thomson online, and found the whole experience excellent (We have not been on a 'package holiday' for 20 years ! we usually book everything ourselves)
Flights and Transfers (which include a 40 minute car ferry ride) were a breeze.
The accommodation was excellent, in air conditioned bungalows extending up the hillside. Be warned some of the bungalows can be quite a walk up steps, we by chance were allocated Superior bungalows which were about 100 meters away from pool/beach. When we go again I will ensure we have Superior or Delux bungalows. One negative comment, the beds were very hard, we asked for extra blankets on top of mattress, which they obliged with. Rooms cleaned daily, with fresh towels and sheets regularly.
The layout is similar to some of the Caribbean All-inclusive resorts, ie: Pool and eating facilities spread along its own beach, giving the whole cove a private feel, there are no other hotels or accommodation here.
The beach is clean, the water is crystal clear, and shallow, for a long way out, making it very safe for children, and there is a life guard on duty (who swims about a mile before he starts and after he finishes!)
Restaurant is buffet style for breakfast, with large selection of hot and cold and fresh cooked eggs and pancakes. Dinner is buffet style with soup, several hot selections, lots of salad and fruit choice. It is not quite Royal Caribbean Windjammer, but it is very good. Be aware that in Greece there appears to be NO restriction on smoking ANYWHERE, so it you prefer your food without cigarette smoke, get a table by the edge of the outdoor restaurant (this goes for everywhere on the island)
There is an additional Taverna on the property, which is chargeable (e80 for 5 people and wine).
There are 4 bars, with walk up or waited service, and the drinks were cheaper than the restaurants in Thassos town. (e2 for a small beer or soft drink)
The resort is located just outside Thassos town, it can be walked in 20 mins, there is a free mini bus to take you there in the morning, or a taxi costs 6 euro each way. There are water taxis in the morning to Golden Beach, and in the evening to Thassos town. If you are there for 2 weeks, it is worth hiring a car for a couple of days to see the wonderful Island, there are still some Greek villages to be found, and some quiet fishing villages with Tavernas for a relaxing lunch.
The beach has plenty of Sunbeds in pairs with umbrellas, book them at reception, e7 per day. They allocate you a numbered pair, and give you a key to unlock / lock them, this works well.
We visited in early July 2014, there were very few English people there, mainly eastern Europeans.
This was our first return to Greece for 20 years, and our first with children, we wanted somewhere with 4 star feel and comforts, but also somewhere unspoilt by large hotels, overcrowding, and the 'Full English Breakfast'. I believe Thassos still has this, and Makryammos offers the perfect balance. We will be going again.
My 11yr old liked:
The massive trampoline in the water, the inflatable rock slide in the water, the buffet breakfast and dinner.
My 7yr old liked:
Warm shallow sea, sandy beach, Trampoline, The kids club, feeding the deer with water melon.
