Very interesting site though much of it is in ruins though there is still lots to see and the location of the ruined city is stunning. Be sure to visit the Treasury as well which is included in the ticket price but around 300 metres down the road from the main site.

It is so worth to visit this site, along with the Lion Gate and the Citadel/Treasury sites. If you rented a car, you should start with the ancient site, which will take you to the Lion gate. Then upon completion, you will drive few minutes to the second site, the Citadel/Treasury place. All included in your ticket price (remember not to misplace your ticket stub).

It is really awesome to feel the history in front of your eyes!

There is quite the climb up to the top so ensure you have sun screen protection, a hat, good shoes and plenty of water. Also ensure you leave nothing exposed in your car before you leave. When we were there, there was a suspicious subject placing advertising on peoples cars, however attempting to open "unlocked doors". Be aware.

Other than that, I would suggest no more than three hours or so to visit these sites. Well worth it though!

This is the must see site when you visit Greece. After the Parthenon one has to visit Mycenae and understand Greece's past. It is a beautiful location in the mountains of Argolida and takes your breath away when you first visit it.

Mycenae is one of the oldest ruin sites in Greece and an important cultural center in its time (1600 – 1100 BC, hence the Mycenaean Era). It is a sizable installation and a bit of a climb. You can get water (and other refreshments) near the parking lot. Bring reasonable footwear as you will be climbing up (and over) hills/rocks/steps/etc. There is little shade at this site so pace yourself. The Lion Gate is the entrance to the site and it’s amazing to see stuff still standing after a couple millennia. What I find amazing is how they got all the raw material to the site to build this thing. There are no rocks uphill, so someone had to bring all these stones from below….and you thought cutting your yard was a pain. Make sure to wander around the back side of the site for more vistas. Shouldn’t take you more than an hour. Oh, there are clean restrooms as well.

Our trip to Greece included a visit to the ancient Mycenaen ruins. The vast site is certainly something to behold, and the mountainous backdrop is like no other. It is quite a climb in summer so dont forget plenty of water and good walking shoes. Would recommend to anyone visiting Greece.
