“Little planet, great value”
Reviewed 29 July 2008

We wanted a few quiet days in a location from where we could drive to a number of interesting archeological sites and we have found it indeed! The Mycenae ruins are a top destination in their own right and Corinth, Epidavros, Tiryns, Argos and Nemea are all wtihin an hour's drive. The city of Nafplion, some spectacular mountain scenery and the wine region are interesting excursions from antiquity.
In Mycenae we chose La Petite Planete because it appeared to be the only hotel with a swimming pool and were not disappointed. We had a fine view of the site and the mountains from our small balcony, enjoyed the pool a great deal after (or before) the visits or drives, got a friendly and almost over-helpful service from the staff and savoured a few excellent dinners, prepared with the family's gardens own produce. Strongly recommended!
The only drawbacks were the airconditioning's inability to cope with very hot July weather and the presence of wasps around the pool.

This is a peculiar hotel. Not many choices if you’re staying close to the Mycenae ruins, but this one does have a location only two minutes away by car. The hotel was almost empty when I stayed, and the room was starkly furnished and average. In fact, for some reason the place reminded me of a smaller version of the hotel in the movie “The Shining”. Though probably just due to it’s size and the lack of guests during my stay . Taking a shower at night, it seems as if they have limited hot water and if the other guests use it before you, get ready for a cool one. It seems televisions in hotels of the Peloponnese are all 13 inch models made in Austria, which adds to the oddness of the room. Not that you want to spend any time watching Eurovision anyway.

Breakfast was the high point, as they had great coffee (full sized cups of Espresso) and made an effort to fill you up with breads and eggs, etc. The staff was very friendly, but seemed limited to two people doing everything (front desk, cooking, etc.). The rate was 70 Euros and they prefer cash, so if pressed to stay near the archaeological site, this is probably an acceptable option for one night.

We stayed 3 nights at the La Petite Planete, and were extremely pleased with the beautiful hotel. It's the last hotel on the road that heads to the Mycenae ruins, so it's extremely quiet. The hotel is within walking distance to the ruins (about 10 minutes going up an incline), and within 5 minutes of the restaurants and souvenir shops in the town itself. There is also an ATM and Internet cafe in town, also within 5 minutes.

Make sure you ask for a room with a view of the Argos plain, and you can sit on the balcony every day looking at the fantastic view. The double bed is actually two singles pushed together, but the room itself is a good size. The TV is very tiny, but who goes here to watch TV?! The shower is very small compared to an American shower, but most European showers are small.

Breakfast is included and served from 8:30 to 10:30, and is fantastic! By far, it was the best breakfast we had while traveling in Greece. The hotel is family owned, and the two sisters who were performing most of the activities were highly attentive and pleasant! You'll even get to meet their dog and 3 or 4 cats!

Please note that they prefer payment in cash.

we paid 50 EUR for a double with breakfast- low season rate. We thought this place was great. They were super-friendly and flexible, preparing an early breakfast and lending us umbrellas. the breakfast was great with fresh juice and fruits.
It is an easy walk to the sites. Room is functional but fine, with a great view from the balcony.

What a wonderful hotel this was. The hotel owner, nick-named Ajax, welcomed us with real Greek hospitality. Our evening meal was made for us with his own home-grown vegetables and he prepared us wonderful fresh fruit drinks and told us about the vineyards nearby which were wonderful. All this with the log fire roaring.
His daughters were real treasures going out of their way to make us feel comfortable and made us feel spoilt. The position of the hotel could not be better, we had a wonderful evening stroll up to the site with all visitors gone this was very special.
This hotel cannot be recommended more highly.

We loved the hotel, the family and the quiet town. After a full day of exploring ancient sites, it was wonderful to come back to La Petite Planete! We ate dinner at the hotel one night and the food was excellent! Our breakfasts were great too. There are only about 3 small hotels in this village and we definitely made the right choice! We would stay there again.

Everything about the PP is wonderful! It is set at the edge of Mikines town, close to the archaeological site. It has a spectacular view of the valley, mountains, and Aegean from the veranda where you are served breakfast. The breakfast, included in the price, had fresh bread, cheese and meat, a plate of fruit, goat cheese, an omelette, fresh-squeezed orange juice, coffee, and tea. Everything tasted like it had come off the farm that morning.

The hotel is run by an incredibly kind and accommodating family. We had to leave on a morning when most people, including the taxi driver, are at the market, so the owner's daughter/receptionist drove us to the bus stop in her car.

This place is a treasure!
