We were definitely happy that, out of the many available options of holiday properties we had reviewed, we decided on this one.
We traveled as a group of 4 adults and 2 young kids, so we needed significantly more than just a place to stay overnight while exploring the island. And we found it, no doubt.
The island itself seems a perfect option if you are not that mobile because of the kids. It's just one hour sea trip from Athens, a bit aside from the whirl of traditional tourist routes, and it has it all: a vibrant capital port town, picturesque settlements like Perdika, organized sand beaches and cozy hideaways along the coast, and a good menu of things to do. You can also take a short ferry trip to Poros and other impressive neighboring islands.
The house is located in a quiet place on a hill and you just cannot stop contemplating the sea and incredible sunsets. It is well designed with 4 bedrooms, where everyone has a chance for quiet rest, and a large kitchen/studio space. But most of the time we spent outside, sure - there are verandas with benches, tables, hammocks, and a number of other stuff for your relaxation on the both sides of the house, so it's possible to stay in comfort as the sun and the shadows move during the day. To say nothing about the fairly large garden with a variety of fruit that guests are welcome to enjoy.
Our only trouble was keeping an eye on that nothing greasy drops on the terracotta floor in the house, which immediately soaks it - that was a bit of a challenge with little ones - and that nothing acidic affects the cooking surface in the kitchen. Well, the both look beautiful though, so you have to sacrifice something) We also made good friends with the cat who lives in the territory - he is perfectly calm and tolerant but may get a bit vindictive if you catch him with your meat steak)
All and all, it was a great holiday with all the comfort you could expect - in a piece of paradise! The host, Alexandra, did her best to help us orient ourselves in the new place - you have available all the support and recommendations you need to feel confident and informed. Thank you so much and hope to be back one day!
It is difficult to write when you know that words would be insufficient to express every pleasure we experienced during our stay in Artist's retreat, which is a retreat in its full meaning. The beauty of the house surpasses the photos they posted. And apart from the beauty, we felt like we were invited to a friend's house. Friendly reception when we arrived, the atmosphere of the house, many wonderful details in it, food and wine waiting to round the feeling of being a part of something unique. There were 8 of us, with three children around 11. No one was in someone's way. Every one of us could find ones place to enjoy and be relaxed. And, also, the house and the porch offer places to gather during long evenings of total enjoyment. The position of the house is very convenient to explore beaches, villages, remains of the past and everything this nice island (not drowned in tourism) could offer. Even when I write this review I could smell mornings in front of the house, in the shadow of the palm tree, while drinking my coffee, and hear those murmurs of the day that fades away. We'll be back, for sure!
