“Fantastic holiday at the Villa Apollon”
Reviewed 7 October 2012

As soon as we arrived captain was there to help with the luggage and show us to our rooms, then told us to come up to the bar for our complimentary drink, the views from the pool and bar area were amazing we sat there for a while and his wife Dounia joined us they were both really friendly and filled us in on a few things about the area. You couldn't wish for a better place to stay, great bus and taxi service into Skiathos town which is full of great restaurants and bars particularly down the cobbled side streets which take some getting used too, be prepared to get lost a few times like we did. The beaches are wonderful and so easy to reach on the bus.We will definitely be going back, there's still a lot we didn't see and Villa Apollon will be my first choice if it's not booked up as it fills up very quick, I'd like to say a big thank-you to the other guests who were there at the same time as us it was nice meeting you all especially the royal couple on the balcony :)x and a really big thank-you to Captain and Dounia for making us feel so welcome:) x also Jack and Donna for doing a fantastic job serving us and keeping our rooms spotless xx

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view, but the ones near the pool would be nice if you can get them

Stayed here the last week of September - end of season and the whole island probably has a different feel at peak season. Villa Apollon was a great place to stay, typically Greek with very welcoming hosts. It feels more like being welcomed into a family home rather than an impersonal hotel. I thought that this was great and is no doubt the reason so many people come back time after time, but I can see that anyone expecting a 'hotel' atmosphere might be disappointed.
The rooms are functional rather than luxurious (if you are looking for a luxury hotel with all the trimmings there are several nearby). Everything worked fine - but 'typically Greek' is a phrase that anyone who has travelled much in Greece will understand!
The location is great - up above the beaches giving the most wonderful views from the pool and all of the rooms (but also giving a steep climb up from the beach - if you have difficulty walking it would not be the place to stay). It is very near to the bus stop - number 9 (there is only one tarmac road along the island so the bus stops are just numbered). There is a bus in each direction every 20 minutes. We were in a room near the road, but not really bothered by noise as there were few vehicles outside the beach 'rush hours' and no traffic at night.
The food is good, but portions much too large - however the expectation is that leftovers will be wrapped for lunch the next day. There are several nice Tavernas within easy walking distance. 'Captain' cooks a great barbecue - the fish is wonderful, but needs to be ordered a day in advance, and is very reasonably priced.
The staff were helpful - 'Jack' speaks little english or greek, but was always smiling, happy and very helpful. The cleaner 'Donna' is less enthusiastic and seems to like talking on her mobile phone, so the rooms were in the 'perfectly acceptable' rather than 'spotless' category.
Things to do:
1) Catch the bus to all the beaches (avoid the very crowded 4 o'clock rush off the beaches).
2) Catch the water taxi in Skiathos town (runs hourly, is only one euro more than the bus fare and such a nice way to travel).
3) Catch the bus (bus stop 23) then walk through the pine forests to the beaches on the Mandraki peninsular on the north of the island (about 20 minutes easy walk through cool woodland).
4) Use the dirt roads as hiking trails - there are so few cars using them that this is very pleasant walking.
5) We liked the Paradise taverna on the beach.
6) Walk around the Kanapitsa peninsular (bus stop 13).
7) Eat fish at the beach shack at Agistros beach (bus stop 23, walk north towards Mandraki then turn right.

Last tip - cash only, no cards. This is in the email that is sent after booking, but some idiots (like me!) don't read it.

Room Tip: Rooms lower down are nearer the road (such 11 and 12). There are three rooms onto the pool, but thes...

Absolutely loved it here. When we arrived was met by Captain (one of the owners) he was a very friendly man.He said when you are ready come up to the bar for a complimentary drink.
The rooms are typically Greek and basic but cleaned everyday towels and bedding was changed every few days. There is a safe in the room and air conditioning which were both free of charge not like a lot of places which charge you. They seem to have thought of everything here there's even a iron and ironing board. We went up to the bar for our complimentary drink and spent a lovely couple of hours talking to Captain and his lovely wife Dounia we couldn't have been made more welcome what lovely people. Then I tried Captains Bacardi and Coke they are the best ones I have ever tasted Thankyou Captain :) X. The pool area was lovely and overlooked the sea the sun beds where very comfy they give you beach towels to use here so you don't have to bring any from home. The 2 helpers what they have Jack and Donna work really hard to make your stay has enjoyable has possible. The food here is fantastic huge portions and they give you a big plate of fruit and yoghurt to finish which was free. The breakfasts were fantastic especially the Sunday one.We met some lovely people here some first timers like us and some what have been here loads of times they made our holiday special.Loved Skiathos and Villa Apollon we would not hesitate to come back here felt so chilled out Wish I was still back there. Thankyou Captain and Dounia for a fantastic holiday we will be back soon Xx

I stayed at the Villa Apollon, Skiathos from 8th September for one week. Despite having a fraught time with my travelling compaion, I enjoyed the accomodation, hospitality and met some wonderful people. I especially enjoyed the 'special' breakfast spread on Sunday. I will definitely stay here again when I next visit Skiathos.as I know Captain and Dounia will bend over backwards to provide a fantastic time for all.

Wonderful views, great food, and more to the point, a marvelous cold Mythos!

My husband and I have just returned from yet another wonderful holiday in Skiathos. We have been holidaying there for the past nine years and have stayed in various resorts and various types of accommodation up and down the island. However for the last four years, and twice this year, we have stayed at the Villa Apollon. Beautifully situated on Achladies hill (bust stop 9) with wonderful views over Achladies bay. We are always warmly welcomed by Dounia and Captain who do their utmost to make our holiday as pleasureable as possible. The complimentary breakfast is a good way to start the day with many choices to suit all. If you feel, after a tiring day sunbathing, swimming etc that its too much trouble to go out and find somewhere in the town to eat, Dounia and Captain can cook you up some wonderful food in no time. The Villa Apollon is a great place to chill out, eat and drink and socialise with all the other guests. We met a great crowd this year, some new guests and some we have met before. Dounia and Captain strive all the time to add additions and improvements to their facilities and this year it was the provision of pool towels which could be used on the beach also - this of course leaves more room for other requirements in our suitcases for our holiday. The rooms are probably in need of some updating but all have seaviews and are cleaned daily. Beds are comfortable and bedding and towels changed every few days. We will be going back to the Apollon next year without a doubt because its the one place we can guarantee a lovely relaxing holiday and we will come home refreshed.

This was our second visit to the Apollon this year, so we guess that as we have been for the past 4 years it makes us "regulars". Having read many many of the terrific reviews that the Apollon receives, and from our own visits, I find the two recent "moans" a bit random, and if it were me, giving negative comments would make me think, surely the rest of the world can not be wrong. Lets be 100% clear if you want 5 Star accommodation with your own personal slave to wash your feet and stir your tea, then the Apollon is NOT for you. If however you want clean comfortable accommodation, fabulous views, terrific food, and most of all the best hosts, Captain & Dounia, then this is the place for you. Ok so we are a touch biased, but we tell you no lies, only what we know. Again we stayed on the top floor, and over the course of the 3 weeks we were there, met some really nice people, no cliques, no "in crowds" just happy to be there, holiday makers, most of we would add were Apollon "virgins" but I bet they will not be for long. One particular night, Captain & Dounia were entertaining some of thier Island friends as they often do, and the thought crossed my mind, that did previous reviewers mistake this as the "in crowd"? just a thought. The question of "dirty" has previously been raised, we have NEVER found anything to be dirty, old yes, but if you consider old to be dirty then we must be absolutley filthy. Staff issues, again we can find no evidence to support the claim of "slaves" they are always well treated, they work hard agreed, but that is their job.
Anyway enough our thoughts, another fabulous holiday spent in excellent company, with a terriic atmosphere, and our many, many thanks to Captain & Dounia, the staff, and the other guests who made our stay so special. PS I clicked the "fitness centre" by mistake there isnt one

Stayed at Villa Apollon In late September and we just missed a few days heavy rain and had a glorious week here. We have stayed here many times in the last 9 years and each time we visit we find another improvement to our stay. This time we were provided with lovely blue towels to use by either the pool or take onto beach so this saves weight in case next time we visit. They have also replaced the old plastic loungers with new teak wood ones and comfortable cushions on top.
They have upgraded the poolside with new tiles and walk in steps with much more room around pool. We often stay in poolside room so everything is within a few steps from our veranda! Three steps to pool or lounger and three steps to pool bar at other end of pool. There are beautiful views from all rooms and around pool over the sea with a few islands sitting in usually a calm turquoise mediterranean sea.
The owners ~Dounia and Captain are very friendly and treat us as good friends now. We and other guests are always welcomed with a cool beer or any other drink to your liking.
After an extensive choice of breakfast the food for lunch or evening meal is very good quality aswell. The portions are really big - the Greek Salad is always enough to share between two and the chops are enormous. We would recommend the Spatchcock Chicken - it is beautiful and also enough for two or three people and also the Silver Snapper is gorgeous and very succulent.
The position of Villa Apollon is ideal being close to bus stop to take you either into town or further along coast to any beach or other resort. Also there is a water taxi 10 mins walk to beach which takes you into town for 2.50 euros each or plenty of taxis available at a cost of around 6 or 7 euros into town. You could also walk if you feel like some exercise. It only takes us about 25 mins brisk walk if cloudy or maybe 30 mins more leasurely if hot and sunny.
The cost of 10 min taxi ride from airport is around 14 - 16 Euros. So you arrive at accommodation very easily and quickly and in no time at all you are chilling by pool having a welcome drink.
We enjoyed our trip very much and as usual were able to just chill out and recharge our batteries in the sun.
We will be back?
