Firstly Yammas to Captain & Dounia, Jack, and their team (and what a team they all are) not forgetting Leon! We have spent our first holiday in Skiathos and we were so lucky to have enjoyed our time at Villa Apollen. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed to our room to the time we left and how sad we were at the moment, it was first class. I would like to try and make our review a little different from all the amazing ones but I don't know how I can. From the welcome, and then sitting at the bar taking in the view with a cold beer of course, to settling in your room, so clean, beautiful view and the special touches incredible, iron, ironing board, microwave, every untensil that you would need to make a meal.... buy why would you, we took Special Pizza and Greek Salad to our balcony, just fab. Loved my special orange juice in the morning which Dounia would say I will make it sexy for you, it was delicious, Phil would have Captains special Iced Coffee - we loved everything and we met some lovely people, Will we return... oh yes please. xx

The Captain & Dounia certainly know how to look after their guests, nothing was too much trouble, if there was a problem, personal or otherwise they were happy to help, their main aim was for everyone to have a happy and relaxing holiday. The view from the villa is spectacular, every room has a similar view and the double bed was almost as good as our bed at home. Usually neither my husband or I sleep well whilst on holiday, but I have to say both of us slept like babies. Having the air con and safe included in the price was lovely - no going to reception to pay for extras + having Apollon towels to use at the pool area, these little things are definitely the reason why so many people return year after year, but I think the main reason is Dounia and The Captain making everyone feel so at home. The bar food was delicious, very generous helpings and reasonably priced - we did find some restaurants in Skiathos very expensive and the food of poor quality, I'm sure if Villa Apollon were to accept non residents, they would be overwhelmed with customers. We didn't find there was a clique at all, we mixed with couples who had visited before, as well as couples who, like us, were visiting for the first time, everyone got on really well and both Dounia and the Captain treated everyone exactly the same.
People booking for the first time should be made aware of the steep hill/steps down to the beach, not too bad going down, but for the older generation, coming back up in the hot sun could be a struggle. Skiathos is a very small island and is basically a sunbathers paradise with over 60 beaches to choose from, not an island to choose if you are looking for something more. We hired a quad for 6 days, it's the best mode of transport due to the roads being more like dirt tracks, but that made it all the more fun. A trip to the north of the island is well worth it, the views are lovely and of course no one should miss going to the airport to watch the planes fly over your head onto the very short runway.

Room Tip: We had a room in the annex, which had a nice balcony with lovely views and we were very happy with t...

Captain and Dounia gave us the best reception we have ever been given at a hotel and could not of been more helpful from start to finish of our holiday. The bar area has everything you need with great views of the pool and coastline. The food is exceptional particularly the Spatchcock Chicken and the Fresh Fish which is specifically chosen from the market that morning by the captain. The sun loungers are probably the most comfortable we have ever had and you can easily lay or sit in the shade. A great bonus was that we had Air Conditioning and a safe in our room at NO HIDDEN charge. The maid service was great and the rooms are of a very good standard and it was nice to see mattress protectors in use. and we came back off the holiday with many memories and friends. We have never done this before with holidays but have already booked for 2 weeks next year.

Room Tip: You can be by the pool or if you prefer a little more peace then you can have great views of the sea

Real family atmosphere at the apartments everyone was so friendly and felt very relaxed during our stay. Villa Apollon met and exceeded our expectations.

On arrival at the Villa Apollon we were greeted with a big welcome from our host Donuia and shown to our rooms. It was was a must to come and join Dounia and the Captain for our Welcome Drink, right away we felt at home.

Our room was perfect, with our own balcony it over looked the swimming pool and the beautiful Achladias bay. We had a very comfy large double bed as well as a single, a kitchen with all the necessary self catering items that you could require, as well as an iron and ironing board! There is a suitable dressing table and big mirror for the ladies with a plug next too it! The bathroom is typically greek; acts as a wet room and again has everything you could require from a bathroom.

There is no need to pack towels! We were supplied with two large villa Apollon Beach towels and there is separate fresh towels on the sunbeds by the swimming pool every morning! As well as the suitable towels in the bath room for the shower and your hair, this we felt was a mark of people who have been at this hospitality game for a while.

Air conditioning worked brilliantly and is free! There is a safe for your valuables which is easy to use the fridge had ample storage for bottled water and wine! There is also Wifi but we choose not to use it, it was after-all a break away.

The bar next to the pool adds a lovely atmosphere with beautiful panoramic views and is a very sociable place. There was an excellent choice of beverages to choose from! The food was recommend to us, we tried the Captains SeaBass bought fresh that very morning it was outstanding, the portions are huge! you won't be disappointed.

It is the perfect location to get to one of the best beaches in Skiathos. It's within half an hour walk from Skiathos Town should you not want to use the water taxi or overcrowded bus.

I am looking forward to returning to this Hotel hopefully next year!

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor pool room amazing views !

Recently returned from a another superb stay at Villa Apollon.

On arrival once settled at the bar with a welcome drink and staring at the stunning view of the sea from the pool area, I could literally feel the stress melting away from me and can't think of anywhere I'd rather spend two weeks relaxing.

The rooms have plenty of space to spread out your things and super comfortable beds! They are kept immaculately clean - we returned from the beach everyday to find rubbish removed, floor mopped, bed made and bathroom cleaned. It is really useful to have a safe in the room and use of air-conditioning when ever you want it at no additional cost - to be able to cool the room down before going to bed at night is a godsend - and free!! Every year improvements are made on all the rooms - this year beautiful new cool white tiles on all the floors.

The food at Apollon is to die for - between me and my husband we managed to squeeze in a spatchcock meal on 3 separate occasions and for us, if you want fish it's the place to eat it. The Captain loves fish - and sure knows how to cook a fish!!

Travel to anywhere on the island is easy and accessible - buses run all day up and down the island (bus stop 9 is virtually outside Apollon) - so getting to most of the 65 beautiful beaches on offer is pretty easy. You can easily get a taxi in town or Dounia will order you one if you want to be picked up from Apollon. We like to get the water taxi from Achladies beach below in the evening - it's a lovely way to arrive in town for dinner - the steps down to the beach are a little steep but shouldn't cause most people much trouble.

Some people mention a 'cliquey' atmosphere and I genuinely think this is not the case - I would say it's just friendly if you want it. It is true that there are many returning guests and naturally they get to know each other, but everybody is made to feel welcome whether they've been coming for 20 years or it's the first time - if you want to join in with the sociable atmosphere at Apollo - fantastic! If you just want a quiet holiday coming and going and not mingling with other guests equally no problem! - you're here to relax :)

The real reason people come back time and time again is Captain and Dounia - they are the most wonderful, welcoming, warm people who will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy yourselves.

Only negative to being there is that eventually you've got to board the plane home - we're just counting the days til we're back :)

We recently returned from our annual "pilgrimage" to Skiathos, and once again we stayed at Apollo.

I've waxed lyrical in previous reviews about how welcoming, friendly and helpful Dounia, Captain and the staff are, and once again, nothing has changed there. As ever, they have cultivated a haven of peace for their guests, where (for us at least) time stands still and we can forget all about the trials and tribulations waiting for us back home. Do manage this year on year is in itself an achievement, and I think speaks volumes, and is a major reason why we, and others, go back year after year and keep coming back...like boomerangs.

The rooms are as clean and comfortable as ever. They have everything that you need on a holiday where you really shouldn't be spending most of your day in the room...clean, comfortable beds, aircon, , fridge, microwave, toaster, iron, ironing board, kettle, 2 hobs - what else do you need in a room on a greek island. We have seen people complain that the rooms aren't huge...I would argue that they are comparable with more expensive hotes we've been to in Paris and even New York - but at the end of the day you don't go to Skiathos to spend your day in the room...and if you do - then you're on the wrong island!

There have been reviews about Apollo being "cliquey" with repeat guests. Sorry - that's just not true - yes, once again this year we were at Apollo and for some of the time we met up again with friends who, like us, stay at Apollo regularly. Yes, we'll catch up and have a good natter - yes, we'll spend time in eachother's company - but never to the excusion of people we've never met - everyone always says hello to other guests, and is always willing to offer any help or advice or just have a general chat - perhaps the people who thought it is "cliquey" didn't themselves try to socialise with the repeat guests. While we were there the world cup was on, and there were some Italian guests staying - which led to some friendly banter between the British (including the 2 Scottish families) and Italian contingents during the games - no evidence of a clique there.

Food - spectacular (and huge) as ever. Breakfast as before has a good choice of everything you might want, and on Sundays is the "special" breakfast with Bellini's etc.

So, the rooms are comfortable and clean, the rooms reasonably appointed, the food good - so why is it a place we go to year after year. We (and the other founder members of the boomerangs) gave it a lot of thought, and it's difficult to really put your finger on it. It is different things to different people, but for us, the two main things are this.

The view - it's worth the cost of the holiday alone. To sit on the terrace having breakfast, the sun shining, looking over Achladies Bay, well - it's difficult to describe - but suffice to say that having travelled the world extensively I can honestly say I've never found a view (so far) to compare - it really is quite emotional for me.

Secondly, and I think this is one of the things all the "boomerangs" would say - is the people. Dounia and Captain are not just "mine hosts" to their guests, they genuinely want to be your friends. They are hard-working people with generous hearts, who are immensely proud when their guests have a good holiday at Apollo, and who are always happy to take polite, constructive feedback and try to apply it to make your experience better. They are always polite to guests (even if the same cannot be said for some of the guests), and I honestly don't think Apollo would be the same without them.

Any review is going to be subjective, and mine is no exception. For me (and pretty much all of my friends and family who have been there) Apollo ticks all the boxes. I think it speaks volumes that it has now become the venue of choice for "special celebrations" ( we've had our honeymoon here, our 5th anniversary, and my 50th birthday). As I say, my review is subjective, but I would encourage you to go to Apollo, to relax, to take in that amazing view, to soak up the tranquility, to interact with your fellow guests, and then perhaps you too will become one of the increasing number of "boomerangs"

60 weeks and counting till our next visit.....can't wait !
