I am a regular contributor and reviewer on trip advisor as I do feel that it helps people decide about their holiday destination but you can only speak as you find. If you read a bad review and still decide to go then you have to take it as it is but I can honestly say that we have just spent another wonderful two weeks at the Marialena (went previously in 2008), had no issues then and no issues this time!

If anything George was even better than he was last time especially as his health now appears under control, we are all feeling the pinch financially and none more so than the Greeks, yes you are on holiday but they are people too, running such a huge and beautiful complex cannot be easy and with the pressures from the tour operators is an added stress Marialena's best option in my opinion would be to rent privately as there are more happier customers than unhappy that do not use sites such as this.

George and Maria are very passionate about the Marialena, very hardworking and extremely fun and generous, myself and my husband went all over the Island on our quad bike as well as spending time at the complex, we met some great people and had many of George's complimentary B52's!

Cleaner works like a Trojan along with Dimitri sheets and towels spotless along with the whole complex.

Quite upset reading some of the reviews as we obviously had a totally different experience (on both occasions) as others, either that or were very easily pleased which I know we are not, but we are a diverse population and one persons view is not another's.

I will finish by saying if you want a relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of the world as in our case almost on your doorstep with wonderful hosts, with Maria who puts her heart into her food and a beautiful family to boot then give the Marialena a go, George is a lovely funny man, yes he has a 'business' side to him and I saw that side of him to but thought he was warranted and quite funny when he had a rant.....folks....chill out seriously! xxxx

We have just returned from two weeks at the Marialena and have had a lovely time. The apartments are in a lovely setting, yes it is walk down the road, but that is part of the enjoyment of staying in a more rural setting. It has been so relaxing. George and Maria work very hard, the food is fantastic. It disappoints me to read negative comments about them, sometimes I wonder what people expect from a Greek self catering holiday ! Skiathos itself is lovely some fab tavernas and trips to do. We will certainly go back one day and stay at the Marilena.

How can anybody live and work in such a beautiful place surrounded by nice friendly people and be so miserable, unhelpful and downright unpleasant as the owner, George. We found ourselves staying away from the apartments all day to avoid him.
The apartments themselves are clean and comfortable but you really need to hire a car as the walk to the beach becomes a challenge in the heat.
Skiathos is a wonderful place and we shall visit again. There are lots of beautiful hotels and apartments so avoid this one.

This our third year at these apartments and we love everything about them. Although they are situated about fifteen minutes along a lane from the main road it is on the flat and worth the walk. There are also plenty of tavernas and bars along the way too.The apartments are a decent size and are well equipped. The pool area is lovely there are ample sun beds and the pool is cleaned/treated daily. The gardens are very well maintained with an assortment of fruit trees scattered about. I know some people have made negative comments about George the owner but we have found him and his wife Maria to be so lovely and welcoming. George's daughter Elena and her husband along with their two young sons spend the summer there too and we can't thank Elena enough for going out of her way to look after us. They are a wonderful family and we are looking to go back for a fourth year!

Whilst I would never come back here simply on principle to not put another cent into this miserable families pocket, the apartments themselves were lovely. Quiet, a lovely 10 minute walk to the main road, amply sized and equipped and regularly cleaned. Unfortunately the family who run it are about as mean minded as they come, frequently reprimanding visitors for the slightest infringement of often ridiculous rules. They're friendly enough when you're spending money, but need some help or stop spending then forget it. It's a stupid business strategy as all we and other guests did was spend significantly less on site than we would have had we seen but one genuine smile from any of them. My advice - don't worry if you've booked here, it's lovely and you'll have a great holiday. Use the pool, but wander down the road for superior meals at cheaper prices (Avli in particular is welcoming and lovely), and use the pool bar as little as possible - the balconies are perfect for sitting out on with a shop bought bottle in the evenings.
