“Good time in Skopelos”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

I have recently returned from two weks in Skopelos staying at the Ionia Hotel. The location of the hotel is central and it affords easy access to the harbour frontage. It has a series of inter connecting balconies that feature areas you can sit outside and enjoy a quiet drink , this is apart from each room featuring its own balcony.
The rooms themselves are quite spacious and ours was cleaned to a very high standard every day. We asked to be moved to a room with a better view of the harbour and this was accomodated with quicly and efficiently. I must say that I was suprised just what a good hotel this was. In comparison I stayed at the excellent 4 star Crithonis Palace on LEROS last year and whilst this hotel is not as luxurious or well appointed in most respects its almost as good.
Breakfasts were of good quality with plenty of choice ( better than I anticpated ) and the breakfast area was well appointed . The pool area was also very clean and inviting. The general atmosphere was one of relaxation and it was quietly efficiently and positively managed. The hotel had a mix of nationalities , which I personally prefer , and everyone got on well. Having been all over the Greek Islands in the past thirty years and stayed in some dubious places , on occasion , I feel that 2 stars is an under assessment for the place and everyone deserves a pat on the back. I will not venture into a wider review of Skopelos here but just want to advise people that the hotel desrves its reputation. I would not hesitate to use it again.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a harbour view , if you can do it.

No questioning the lovely friendly staff, the great location and the cleanliness of the hotel, all very, very good. However the are small niggles,we were in room 431 and it was so noisy from 7.30 am,even with the windows closed and a/c on we seemed like we were in the middle of a huge traffic jam. Wi fi is very poor, not in the rooms or more than 3 foot from the bar area, the same music is played constantly at the bar,so after 2visits you are familiar with the soundtrack. There is no bar person permanently there so when you want service you have to ring a bell.An ok hotel for friendly staff and a central base but not one we would return to.

Just back from a weeks stay at The Ionia & the staff are a credit to the hotel. The hotel is worthy of its two stars or should be a three. The room we had was spotless & cleaned to a high standard every day. Added benefit of a little fridge in the room & air conditioning made our stay perfect. Yes the pool area is small with about 10 or so sunbeds,We only used the pool on our first day & it was lovely & relaxing, but then with the arrival of some families the next day it became noisy & some towels were placed on the sunbeds so from then we hired a car & got out & about to the lovely beaches. The only "issue" I had in our room was trying to dry my hair with my hairdryer, the socket is no where near the dressing table/ mirror!
Less than a five minute walk & you reach the harbor which is full of typical Greek restaurants.(some better than others but all with a similar menu choice) I loved Skopelos with its crystal clear waters & beautiful scenery. One of the nicest Greek Islands.

Just returned from a weeks stay at this lovely Hotel. Ideally situated just 5 minutes walk from the sea front of Skopelos Town. and considering it is in the heart of the town it is generally very quiet apart from the Church clock which chimes on the hour. Not a problem for us however. Reasonable size room with both a double and single bed, balcony and smallish bathroom. No rooms have a bath only showers. Our room was 223. No problems with the room unlike some other reviews. Best views are from rooms 131-135 but no idea what these rooms are like. Nice pool. Breakfast was ok but the same every day but certainly adequate. Great friendly staffI think some reviewers forget that this is only a 2 star Hotel and I have certainly stayed in less satisfactory 3 star places. I would have no hestitation in returning both to Skopelos and this Hotel.

First the positives - the staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean - but that was it. Our room was shoddy. The shutter didn't work; the socket for holding the key to get electricity was hanging off the wall; there was a bare bulb (missing light shade) over the mirror; cracked tiles etc. But the worst feature was the bathroom. It was impossible for me to sit on loo because my knees hit the wash hand basin. We never had hot water. There was a diesel generator in the building next door (not the fault of the hotel). Fortunately it went off at night. We were so disappointed with the hotel we checked out after one night.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel

The pool area was very small and not satisfying. The breakfast had low quality and was the same every day. The furniture at the rooms were old and mainly the bed. The bathroom was awful cause was terribly small and in bad condition. We didn't have enough place even to get showered. The air-condition was setted to be on high power and we couldn't leave it open for long. At least, the place of the hotel was ideal because it was in the center of Skopelos and the employees were very friendly and helpful. We paid 65 euros two persons per night but for those services it wasn't worth it.

Ideal Hotel in the perfect location. Skopelos and the Ionia have set the benchmark by which all future holidays will be judged. I always maintained I would never return to the same destination twice but my experiences of this Island gem have changed all that and I/We look forward to returning to location and accommodation next year !
We ate in different restaurants every day of the fortnight we were there and enjoyed each one.

Particularly looked forward to the evenings and frequented a handful of Jazz bars including Platanos Jazz Bar , The Blue bar and especially The Hidden Door secreted away in the backstreets of Skopelos Town just round the corner from the Ionia.

Simply book it and find out for yourselves......you wont regret it
