We stayed at Astir Egnatia hotel for the duration of a congress with +/- 100 participants from 28.05 till 02.06.14. The 3 oldest buildings and the 1 new with 2 separate room-blocks, are very modern and beautiful at the outside, the oldest building's interior is in a sort of Macedonian classic style while the absolutely beautiful new building, which is always shown when you look for the hotel-image, has a rather country-style-modern interior. The rooms here have there own pool!, although just sized for paddling a bit with your feet Breakfast was in the old building before 02.06 and after in the new; it was promissing by variety - it was kept warm on an induction plate, bread tastful, coffee from the automat tasted bad (as always in Greece when prepared artificially) . The biggest disappointments came during the conference: the airco in the conference halls Tenedos and Samothraki were freezingly cold and windy. At the barbecue evening roughly prepared salads, and all the meat was cold before it was served - and idem dito the last get-together evening which was supposed to be a gala-dinner, food was cold, not tasty, wine was served in plastic jars and the service personnel did not bother for 1 hour to clear the tables.
There is a beach but it is too dirty to go for a swim or tho sun-bath or even to walk on.
When you have bad luck like us, your room (N°310)has a tobacco smell, the shower head is calcified and spills water in the whole bathroom, and you are hosted in the same building as some fervent moslims who think it is all right to pray loudly in the public hall on the first floor about 5 times a day. There is a bad signal for mobile calling.

Room Tip: Choose the new buildings if you can afford it (price will be 3x as much as in the old buildings). Ea...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay at the Astir Egnatia, Alexandroupolis from 28-05-14 to 02-06-14.

With regard to the setup and requirements for any conference we provide the facilities and services as the organizer wishes them to be. They requested the air-conditioning to be fully operational and we fulfilled their wishes with which they were satisfied.

The barbecue you refer to was organized independently of the hotel, our chef and our facilities. All the services had been requested from an outside caterer, so any issues with the quality and timing of this meal was not the concern of the hotel. As it happened, due to bad weather we offered hospitality inside the hotel as a favour to the conference organizers. Once again, we had been requested to kindly serve the guests as a favour to them and of course, we as a hotel, had not catered for staff numbers for this occurrence as it was not intended to take place inside the hotel.

As I’m sure you know, we experienced some severe storms and torrential rain during the week you were here. Previously planned cleaning and clearing of the beach area was unable to take place as heavy machinery could not operate in such conditions.

As regards other guest resident in the hotel, we operate a non-racial policy and try to be tolerant towards other religions, beliefs and customs. We cannot apologize for this policy.

The quality of telecommunication signals in Northern Greece is not a situation over which the hotel has no jurisdiction. At any one time, the hotel subscribes to the best service available that we can pass on to our guests.

Once again, we thank you for your comments as we are constantly trying to improve our services and with this in mind, are open to accept constructive criticism where it is warranted.

With best regards,

Dimitris Karavassilis

Excellent place 5 minutes to the center. In front of the beach great view to the waves. A great playground for kids. Easy parking. Excellent and friendly staff. Very good breakfast. But they need to be more careful when cleaning. Also we had to change a room because it was smelling cigarettes. The next was better but not a big difference. Instead our friends room was odor free.

I stayed at Egnatia hotel in January of 2014. Although it was winter, it was a very nice feeling to wake up and have this great sea view through your bed. It's a very good hotel with big enough rooms, not recently rebuilt but pretty nice. The breakfast is great and includes everything you can imagine! The lounge is huge and well decorated and we liked to sit there for a drink and play our card games at the evening.

Stayed here only 1 day as a family of three. Our room was one of the suites with the full seaside view and double floors. There were no problems about the space and the room decoration was ok too. But unfortunately, the AC didnt work properly and it was doing too much noise. The door to the balcony could not be locked. That was a real security issue because it was very easy to pass to our balcony from the next one. There were nothing in the minibar even no water. The breakfast was ok.

The location is the best thing about this hotel. Very close to the downtown, just a short walk.

Nevertheless, this is definitely the best hotel in Alexandroupoli. So, if you are there dont search for anything else, but dont expect too much either.

Very good hotel complex very close to the city of Alexandroupolis, 3 minutes by taxi, Modern with large rooms and many facilities for quests especially in summer time with swimming pool and easy way to the sea. Very good breakfast, bur poor quality food for lunch and dinner. Very good and willing to help personnel, very big and comfortable room, difficult entrance to shower, and the days of my staying the mini bar was empty with only one bootle of water. Many parking places
