“Spectacular sight - expensive tolls”

This bridge is quite spectacular with it's giant sized beams and ropes, leading to the poles holding it all up (see pics).

The views are equally wonderful, with the meeting of 2 different water bodies and frequent sightings of cruise ships coming towards the bridge, then once they go underneath you realise just how high up you actually are.

There is an island in the middle which has a long history, originally a stop for pirates and then eventually women who serviced them, shops, drinking locales and the type of debauchery you expect that go hand in hand with pirates! Hundreds of years later that was all gone and a home for girls who became pregnant out of wedlock, or who were known to be promiscuous existed, then it became the keeper's home. Now the island has little on it, nobody visits exept for those taking a detour from the bridge for a break. It tends to be used for livestock now.

Beautiful bridge spanning the Great Belt betjene Funen and Sealand. The worlds second longest spanning hanging bridge.

We passed beneath this fantastic bridge on a cruise ship. According to the Captain, there were just five metres to spare. We stood at the very front of the ship so had a marvellous view of all the approach embankments and bridges, and then of the superb suspended section. A truly magnificent sight.

I remember seeing this being build. It was an amazing sight and even now, years later, it's still an amazing bridge.
Although it's amazing to look at it is just ridiculously expensive. We crossed at night in heavy rain and found it very badly lit and no cat's eyes which made it difficult to see the road and lanes,
The amount of money they charge you would think they would make it a little bit safer to drive on in bad weather,
Going back over the bridge in daylight (and dry weather) was much much better and quite a sight to see close up.

We travelled across the bridge in a westerly direction from Copenhagen on a Friday afternoon approaching summer. Multiple toll lanes for electronic tags, cards and cash. No delays and very quick process with credit card. The bridge is huge and while no where beside the bridge itself to stop and admire it, it is a great sight to take in while driving. Made the journey west most efficient and a good option, even at DKK235.
