“Impersonal and Not worth the money!”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

When you arrive at Ydes Hotel in the charming city of Odense, the location seems like a real bonus. However, when you arrive at the kiosk to register... right, kiosk. A video screen with a front desk person, who sits next door (somewhere) greets you! Not exactly personal or warm. Your room cards come out of the machine too. Our first room (3rd floor) had torn furniture and a bathroom that smelled so strongly of urine, none of us could breathe! Our Danish friends insisted we move.

The second room was better (also 3rd floor), but not great. Sunny and clean, there is little that makes it special. The bed was too soft and the room was stifling hot and stuffy, but the windows don't open and there was no AC. We were uncomfortable all night! Breakfast was minimalist at best, and we were grateful we hadn't paid the ridiculous price, when there are great bakeries near by.

The lobby had dying plants (we watered them) and no one around. The room was uncomfortable and overpriced... with all the other options, this is not one I'd recommend.

The hotel is supposed to be quiet and non smoking, but the people in two rooms next to ours smoke, and we have to smell it. A man in underwear walks in the hall between rooms. When we complained, nothing was done other than " if you don't like it we will refund you and you can look for a different hotel". The receptionist is a smoker herself. We'll have to tolerate our two nights here, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

I thought it was way overpriced.. for our tiny atic room. - I did not like the "REMOTE RECEPTIONIST" - Our son had a broken leg & it was near impossible to get him up the stairs to the room... & no one on location to talk to.
The room was basic.. but smelled of smoke.. bathroom GROSS... my kids were afraid to go into the bathroom because of the uncovered vent.
the location was out of the way from the highway... again.. it feels more like a hostel - but charges a hotel price. Would not be back.. and would not recommend.

This is one of those hotels where the receptionist attends you... from a sister hotel!
And they do it thanks to a camera, a screen and a microphone. There is then a machine that delivers the room key (a magnetic card) and another machine to insert your credit card in case the room was not paid in advance. The receptionist -by the way- was very nice and helpful and, in fact, she was just sitting in the sister "Domir Hotel" which is just 50 meters away from Ydes Hotel.
Once I got the key, I went up the steep stairs (there is also an elevator) to the third floor where there was my single room (Room #18). This was very small (ca. 6 sq.meters) but it was cosy, pleasant and very clean. There was a very comfortable bed, a small desk, 2 chairs, a flat screen TV, a narrow wardrobe, a safety box, a hairdryer and a kettle (but you have to bring the coffee or the tea bags). Everything was modern, and well maintained.
With reference to the ensuite bathroom, this was spacious (ca. 4 sq. meters), very clean and with a nice window.

The location is also a good one, as it is very central, very close to the Odense Central Railway Station (a 10 min. walk maximum) and very quiet and safe. From the hotel is very easy to reach on foot the different pedestrian streets where there are several good dinning options and bars(I recommend, f.ex., Froggys Cafe (Vestergade 68), Restaurant Djengis Khan (Overgade 24-26) or the Cafe Biografen (Brandts Passage 39-41)).

With reference to the breakfast, this is served in the sister "Domir Hotel". The breakfast consists of rolls, white and rye bread, different kinds of yogurt, different kinds of jam, oatmeal, cornflakes, muesli, different kinds of cold meat and cheese, coffee, tea, milk, fruit juices, fresh fruits and vegetables, scrambled eggs and bacon, and soft boiled eggs. Let me add as well that the as a guest in the Ydes Hotel, you can get free coffee, tea, hot chocolate and fruits at the restaurant in the Domir Hotel.

Considering then my experience, I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room #18 (1 bed) is very, very quiet.

I stayed here for just 2 nights, when we had no bookings in any hotel. The Hotel manager is an extremely calm person, gave us accommodation and guided us in all the possible ways. We reached this place in the late night hours, but the staff welcomed us with a smiling face. Rooms were not so big, but looked well furnished and decorated. Bed was really comfortable and I slept well in the night. Services were fast and excellent.

Was booked in here by someone else as I was on a Business trip, wouldn't exactly call it a Hotel as such, it is more of a Hostel. Room 29 which I had was tiny, the bathroom was 1m x 1m in size, door into bathroom hit the loo and you had to squeeze inbetween the gap from toilet to sink. I am slim and had to go in sideways. The shower is also squeezed in the same space too.
The room was like a student dormatory. Bed linen was clean and hid the vile duvet below, see my picture. Stairs up to the room were narrow and dangerous, I wouldn't want to take a large suitcase up them. Breakfast was simple and fine, Wi-fi was free but I got no signal in the room. I was booked in 3 nights but checked out to somewhere else after 1 night. Hotel is centrally located.

Room Tip: go somewhere else and pay a little extra

We stayed at ydes for two nights with a child. When we first arrived the door didnt open- we rang the doorbell quite a few times. At last a guest came and let us in. If it was in the midle of the night - not so fun, but we arrived in the afteenoon. Rooms are small but clean. Quiet. Excellent location. Breakfast was ok- just bread&ham cheese. Second morning no breakfast- and no sign explaining why. We went to the sisterhotel 40 m down the block .. Overall: a ok for a budget stay! But wouldnt recommend it for a longer stay.
