I had my most interesting and memorable 'theme' park experience here. There is no deafening music, no excessively sweeten snack, no fat junk food, no heart stopping mechanical ride, no heavily branded pink toys for girls and plastic gun for boy. The old town is made of 70 over 'real' buildings set in the era of 1600 to 1850, 1900s and 1970s. The goods sold in the merchant's shop are historical wares, loaves and cakes in bakery were made from old recipes and bookstore carried old titles. Visitor is free to enter every building to explore the towns, don't miss the Mintmaster's Mansion, Merchant's House, Poster Museum, Toy Museum and have a quick bite of Danish summer dishes. Plenty of photo opportunities with costumed cast members roaming in the buildings, shops and the street. It is recommended that you spend at least 3 hours here.

Loved the hotel, friendly locals and the food. Didn't have a bad restaurant experience. Had a wide selection of Greek food which was most enjoyable.

Once in Denmark make your way to Aarhus to visit this exhibition, most enjoyable and instructive. To avoid confusion; the original name, as known by the locals, is: "Den Gamle By"- Aarhus, meaning the old village. This open-air museum brings you in another era in time. For one hundred per cent sure everyone young or old will be pleased to have been here, watching the ancient crafts experts at work. Nicely exhibited in their original antique work shops, decorated with tools, machinery and showing their customs from past times in practice. Highly recommended.

Dem Gamle By (The Old Town) in Aarhus was a pleasant surprise. My wife and I visited Aarhus off a cruise ship and really weren't aware of just how interesting this attraction was. The collection of restored buildings from across Denmark displayed 500 years of Danish life. The interiors of many of the buildings were fully restored with period furnishings and there is a working bakery. The staff was informative, speaking perfect English.
The Old Town is about a half hour walk from the cruise port through the center of Aarhus.

A wonderful place to go back in time and capture some historic pictures of Denmark. I liked the fact that it is open to fresh air and sunshine.
