There are several frescoed churches on the island. The best are by the Elmelunde Master, named after this church. Very tranquil and contemplative. Frescoes are amazing but charming. Make a detour to see these.

One of the painted churches of Møn, conveniently along the main road to the cliffs of Møn (the destination of 80% of visitors to the island). Painted by the unknown "Elmelunde master" in the late 1500s. The paintings - many of them restored, but not all could be rescued from being painted over during the reformation - show scenes from the bible, with endearing, naive representations of figures, the devil, and some animals.

Beautiful decoration in peaceful setting. very clean toilet facitiies and lovely grounds. Worth seeing for its own value and how it is superior to many of England's church es and grounds.

If you are at all interested in Medieval Art and History, and are ever in the neighborhood of Stege on the Island of Mon, Denmark (a short hours and one-half drive from Copenhagen) DO NOT pass up the opportunity to view the amazing 15th century frescos that adorn the ceilings of this wonderful church. Built on the site of a considerably older (Bronze Age) henge, this has been a place of worship for thousands of years and is well worth a visit. Take the time to sit and marvel at this opportunity to look into the magic that these wondrous glimpses of the reverence of the medieval minds...you'll come away richer for the experience.

Elmelunde is a lovely church which stands high and prominent on the island of Møn. The famous frescos are in muted colours and draw your eyes heavenwards as soon as you enter the ancient building. There's a beautiful ship hanging from the ceiling, a superb example of the Danish tradition.
And I loved the graveyard too, with its individual plots so creatively designed.
