“Perfect central budget homestay/B&B accommodation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2010

We spent four nights with Petruchka and Joachim (and gorgeous little Manon) and it was a great experience. There's a few things you should understand before booking though... Like other Scandinavian B&B's, they don't actually offer breakfast but there's a small kitchenette in the room which is great for saving money in a not cheap city! The room is at the end of their nice, lived-in apartment and has a private toilet but the bathroom is shared with the family. And, this is very much their home rather than a hotel. They are all in and out of the bathroom by about 8am so we had no problems sharing at all. Fantastic location, great hosts, nice building and big comfy bed with kitchenette makes this an excellent option for those looking to save £'s or those looking for a slightly more 'real' experience. , we managed to pick up a free WIFI signal while we were there although I never asked if it was theirs! We would certainly return if heading back to Copenhagen.

As hotels in the capital of Copenhagen are the most expensive in the northern capitals of Europe (Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki) we decided to book a B&B. To our surprise Copenhagen does hardly have any B&B’s. You can rent a room, nearly all of them without breakfast, although they call it a B&B. This stands also for this B&B, which is extremely well situated. Nearly all museums are in the neighbourhood; the very pleasant city centre is within 600 mtrs.; the pitch with the free bikes within 200 mtrs.; Tivoli, the train and bus station within 600 mtrs., as is the longest shopping street of Europe. The apartment is on the 4th. floor (eight staircases) and there is no elevator, so it is not available for physically restricted people. There is no need to use the very well functioning public transport as long as you stay in the city centre. Every 10 min. there leaves a train from the airport to Copenhagen’s central station (3 stops) at DKK 31,50.
At arrival we were welcomed by the hostess, even with tulips for in our room. Hospitality, kindness and helpfulness are the strongest trumps of this family and give you a certain feeling of being at home.
You reach the spacious apartment through their living room and a corridor where your own toilet is situated. Bathroom is shared but this did not raise any problems. A towel for each person is included, but no other amenities.
The room has a large double-bed and kitchenette with fridge, a large table and a portable radio with CD-player. There is no linen cupboard, no TV and a lamp above the bed to read in the evening would be nice. Internet is not available. The windows are double-glazed and very well sound-proofed. There is no air-conditioning, so it will be hot in the summer, I guess. Cleanliness could be better.
Although Copenhagen is a rather expensive city, especially in the Kompagnistraede and its neighbourhood you will find many small restaurants at a reasonable price. Try for instance Stella in the Kompagnistraede: they have a limited menu with very acceptable food at a reasonable price.
All in all a visit to the beautiful city of Copenhagen is very recommendable as is the apartment. We booked through wonderful Copenhagen and paid DKK 500,00 a night (about 67,50 euro).
