“Excellent location but not a 4stars hotel”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

I spent 1 night here on a business trip. The hotel is in a fantastic location. Service on reception is good and the staff are very friendly. Free wi-fi worked well.
I asked for and obtained a quiet room overlooking the internal court. The room was very small (standard single) and the air conditioning system was leaking water, waking me up at 3AM with a disturbing droplets noise. This is one of the (too) many signs of age of this hotel (e.g. room furniture broken or severely damaged) which, as is, does not fullfil the promise of a 4 stars hotel.

We stayed at the Phoenix for two nights pre-cruise in reference to the hotels offered by our cruise company. Having been to Copenhagen before and been placed some way from the Centre we wanted something near Nyhaven and the better end of Stroget, and the Phoenix was ideally placed.

We upgraded to a Executive room for little extra cost, and had a large and spacious room overlooking the front of the hotel. We were not affected by street noise at all, being on the third floor, and at the weekend it was especially quiet. Aircon in any case was good so even though it was quite warm we didn't need windows open overnight. Service at the desk was excellent and the room was kept very clean.

We chose to dine in the hotel's Bistro on the first night as we arrived late afternoon and didn't want to search for a restaurant. The food was so good and the service so friendly that we chose to go there again on the second night.

In addition to the service at the hotel during our stay, I was delighted to have been able to email and discuss the room types which were available. It isn't always possible to get such helpful service.

We have no plans yet to revisit Copenhagen but without any doubt it will be the Phoenix we first turn to.

Room Tip: Worth asking about an upgrade.

Never ask for a single standard room unless you are a petite person with a handbag only. I have never in all my travels been in such a small room where either my luggage or myself slept in the single bed. At least the bathroom was literally a step away - which made it very easy in the night!!

For ventilation, I had to open the window and use the bedside fan when it got too hot.

Otherwise the hotel was acceptable in terms of service at the desk. I didn't try the breakfast as it was extra!! At least the wifi was inclusive in the hotel room price. I was told by my colleagues that there are much better hotels in the area - such as The Admiral. Next time I will try another hotel - if not to compare and let you know.

Dear traveller,

Thank you for taking your time to write a review after end stay earlier this month at Phoenix Copenhagen. We are glad to hear that you liked service provided and our free wireless internet. We are sorry to hear that you didn’t like the size of our standard single room. Standard room is our lowest room category and bigger categories and room sizes are available. During the hot streak in Copenhagen everybody has been affected by the high temperatures and we understand this has been a matter that influenced your stay. Rooms are available including/ excluding breakfast. Best price is always to reserve a room with breakfast included.

Despite high temperature during your summer stay and a room not as preferred, we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back at Phoenix Copenhagen on another Copenhagen visit.

Kind regards

I spent 4 nights here on a business trip. The hotel is in a fantastic location and has a beautiful interior although showing it's age in parts. Service on reception is excellent and the staff are very friendly. The only issue for a 4* hotel the rooms are super small, the air conditioning did not work so the room was very hot! I reported it and unfortunately nothing was done. I opened the windows - luckily i was looking out over the side street which was quiet. The breakfast was good with a large selection of options.

Room Tip: ask for internal room so you look out over courtyard unless airconditioning has been upgraded!

Dear traveller,

Thank you for your review after business stay this month at Phoenix Copenhagen. We appreciate your comments on our staff, the design and our excellent breakfast buffet. We are sorry to hear that your single standard room was too small. Rooms at Phoenix Copenhagen are available from approx. 12m2 in our Standard Single rooms up to our deluxe Suites at 60m2. Size of the room does not decide star ratings at hotels. Phoenix Copenhagen is evaluated minimum once a year and we have maintained our 4-stars since our re-opening in 1991. We hope to be your obvious choice of hotel for your next Copenhagen visit and we are able to accommodate a larger room, that will fur fill your needs.

Kind regards

We stayed three nights at the Phoenix in July 2013, prior to a cruise, and were very satisfied with everything at the hotel.
July 2014, a return visit for two nights proved as good as we remembered it. Staff are friendly and helpful, always a smile from them. Room, although small, was fine for the short time we spent there, and breakfast was good, The location was ideal for all the things we wanted to see, dinner at Nyhavn, only a short walk from the hotel, and shopping etc. also walking distance.
I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else on future visits to Copenhagen, the Phoenix suits our needs perfectly.

The location is perfect!

We are taking a cruise tomorrow so we are closer to the port. Plus its a 5 minute walk from Nyhavn (the waterfront where you can take a canal boat tour (which we highly recommend) plus has tons of restaurants with outdoor seating) AND close to the Stroget- one of Europe's longest pedestrian streets with a wealth of shops, food, etc.

Our room: We have a king size bed on the 4th floor (top floor) with air-conditioning. The only complaints I would say is that the room is TINY and is hard to open the bathroom door with our bags just outside it and the room was clean but a little dusty... With the room size, and all that said, it is very typical for rooms to be small in this region so we don't mind so much. The fridge makes up for it so we can keep our drinks cold, internet is good, and the bed is super comfy!!...

... The hotel has a terrace where you can sit out and have drinks and a restaurant on the lower level.

All said, would I stay here again, yes I would.

Room Tip: choose the top floor and request a king bed.

I had ordered a superior room for my spouse's B-day. I had also ordered a bubbling cava with strawberries dipped in chokolate.
Sorry to say, but the surprise was non at all. Some disappointment instead. The room was HOT.
It was SMALL (is it possible to call ANY roome superior?) the cava did not arrive until we had asked several times and when we were going out for dinner.

The hotel looks old and really needs some renovating. The breakfast was ok, but the breakfast room was far too small for so many people.
