Owner description: The Round Tower Lookout Tower – Observatory – Exhibitions – Concerts. One of the best-known and most popular structures in Denmark, the Round Tower has been a distinctive feature of the Copenhagen skyline since 1642. The Tower once soared far above the rest of the rooftops in the city, and University astronomers studied the stars and planets from the Observatory at the top. The scholars may have forsaken the building a long time ago, but during the winter visitors are still able to gaze at the cosmos from Europe's oldest functioning observatory. The platform that runs around the outside of the Observatory affords views over the old Latin Quarter – from here, you can spot most of the city's famous buildings. The Round Tower does not have an elevator, so visitors have to climb the winding, white-washed Spiral Walk, where kids often hide in the niches, only to jump out shouting “boo!” as adults approach. Halfway up the tower is the entrance to the large and stunningly beautiful Library Hall, which now serves as a popular gallery and concert venue. It hosts several exhibitions a year, and stages concerts almost every week. Above the Library is the Bell Loft, notable for its enormous wooden beams, which were used in the reconstruction of the Tower following the great fire of Copenhagen in 1728. The Loft is also home to a small exhibition of fascinating artefacts from the Tower's history, including Christian IV's wax seal, a tin of medicine produced by Tycho Brahe, and a piece of the bomb that exploded in the Library Hall during the bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807.The Round Tower was built by Christian IV between 1637 and 1642. It was the first part of the Trinitatis Complex, which combined church, library and observatory in a single building.

“Fantastic views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2013 via mobile

We had visited the Rundetaarn on our last trip & decided to make another trip to see the view again. It's an easy climb most of the way as it's a ramp with a few flights of stairs to the top. As it was a beautiful day we had views all the way to the bridge to Sweden. Well worth the 25dkk entry fee with exhibitions on the way up.

How nice to hear you actually went back to visit the tower on your second trip to Copenhagen. And thank you for taking the time to review your visit. If you ever decide to pay us a third visit in the winter time, you should try to come back in the evening, Tuesday and Wednesday, when the Observatory is open.

“unique tower in a busy part of Copehagen, worth a visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

Very plain but interesting interior. I was with my 2yr old son who was sleeping in the pram and we made way up easily. There's only few stairs on very top. View from the roof is nice but you shall get better photos from Vor Frelsers Kirke. Dont miss the exibition located halfway up it's realy interesting. I was using C'OpenHagen Card but normal ticket is rather cheap.

Thank you for taking the time to tell about your visit in the tower. We are glad to hear you also noticed the exhibition on your way up. The tower has around six different exhibitions every year and you can always get updated on rundetaarn.dk

“Worth a visit”

It's something different to do, the climb isn't too bad because it's a winding ramp. The view from the viewing platform is well worth the effort.

Rundetårn is a nice place to get a view over Copenhagen downtown. It was build by king Christian IV and is one of the most valued symbols of Copenhagen. Go visit.

“A brilliant view of Copenhagen”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

The views are spectacular and a must visit.

The climb is easy and every so often there is a stop off either to for the art gallery or for the view of 'behind the scenes'.

Once you get to the top you can spend ages just taking in all the different architecture and spotting all the famous landmarks.

Although it was a grey rainy day it was still a perfect visit as you could see for miles around.
