“Fantastic value hotel”

Great position..so close to Nyhavn (turn right) and the city (turn left). We had a superior double room - really worth it for the extra space.
Reception staff are very pleasant and welcoming.
Buffet breakfasts are good with a large selection.
Computers available for use in lobby.
Our stay here was very comfortable and enjoyable.

I stayed at Hotel City for one night on the 30th of April in a "larger" single room on the first floor. A very conveniently located hotel on a quiet side-street, just 2-3 blocks from Kungens Nytorv and 1 block from the opera. Arriving from the airport with metro is easy and a very short walk from the metro-station. Check-in was a breeze, very swift and easy. The hotel is being renovated at the moment, which means that there are paint buckets and "just painted" signs all over the place, but apart from that no other problems. I was a bit doubtful about staying on the first floor, but the street is very quiet and I wasn't bothered by the street noise. The room was basic, with a single bed, flat-screen TV and a WC and shower, water cooker and instant coffee, no mini-bar if you are looking for that. On the minus side, the carpet had a bit of a funky smell, which could bother some more than others.
The hotel offers free wireless internet, so that is a plus. Breakfast was good, a continental breakfast with a good choice of fruits and cereals, fresh breads, good Danish cheeses, warm choices, some cold-cuts and pastries.
This is not a hotel where you will be spending a lot of time in, it is old in spite of being renovated, the staff is good, but this is a no frills hotel, get out and see the city! The best part is the location, Ströget shopping street is only 5 minutes away, Kungens Nytorv and the nearest metro station 3 minutes away and the Nyhavn restaurant area 5 minutes away.
I would say that the hotel was average / good, the room was 137€ a night, so not the cheapest, but neither the most expensive in Copenhagen. For one night the hotel was more than adequate, for longer stays, I would probably look for other choices.

Very good location to explore beautiful but expensive Copenhagen from, good connection with airport, good breakfast, staff OK. Room on the 4th floor was spacious and quiet but sparsely furnished, not enough lamps. Very small, clean looking bathroom opens up in the middle of one of the walls and you stumble onto the toilet bowel on the left, run into wash basin straight in front of you and brush with the curtain of tiny showering space on the right. Sulphuric smell would spread from showering area whenever small quantity of water was used at the wash basin, but stop spreading if the flow of water at the basin was steady. Bed felt comfortable and clean, but after having slept in it for three nights we just by accident discovered ugly stained mattress covers underneath the sheets. These were replaced the same day with the new ones, after complaint. Still, during remaining two days we couldn’t help wandering how room maids, who were tiding the bed and the room every day, weren’t able to notice this abomination?

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in nobember '08 with a friend, we were in a double room in the third floor.
- The location is nice, close to the centre and beside Nyhavn. Excellent place for the summer period. in 5 minutes by foot you can reach Kongens Nytrov .
- Receptionist were kind, well english speaking, not so practice in giving informations for restaurants.
- The Room was medium size, the bathroom small (like most of hotels), clean, with a good guardrobe, safety box, enough towels, but i asked to change one of the towels which was not clean at all.
- The breakfast was really YUMMY ...
- There is ONE computer with internet connection in the hall that you can use.

The price room was not so economic but in CPH hotels are expensive generally.
Finally , i suggest it to You :)

A very pretty place. In nyhavn bout 3mins walk to the water and main area. Beautiful area with great shopping and friendly people. The hotel is best done by cab from the city. 25 euro, 50 aus 20 pounds. The hotel is old and needs updating big time. Breakfast was included which was nice and a free internet down stairs which is a plus. Reception was rude at first but then friendly. We had a phone card to use to call international numbers. We used it from our room and it cost 10 aus what a joke. Tv is good. Bed tiny and bathroom small. But denmark is really expensive so was alright for price!

Myself and wife stayed at this hotel in early Dec 2008 for three nights. We selected this hotel based on tripadvisor ratings, and the hotel deal we got at expedia. Overall we felt it was very expensive, though we dont have anything to complain. Our checkin, checkout were very smooth. The room was on the 5th floor facing the courtyard and not the street. It was decently sized (for european standards) with all facilities in it (TV with several channels, tea/coffee maker, couple of relaxing chairs, study table, cupboard, and a shower bath). The breakfast was the best part. Its on the lobby level restaurant with a quite a good spread. We used to look forward to it.

The area around the hotel was good - clean and safe. It was near the canal. We walked from the hotel to the Mermaid - it was 45 min to an hours walk. The city centre and the shopping areas (Strøget and Købmagergade) were just 10 minutes walk. It was raining throughout our stay, so we picked up a hotel umbrella from the reception. The reception folks were quite helpful.

As the hotel was not close to central station or the metro station (800 m away), we took taxi from the airport for both ways. It costed us DKR 240, which is pretty steep for 8 kms ride. If you have lighter luggage then take the metro from the Kastrup airport to KongensNytrov station. From there the hotel is 10 minutes walk.

We used to spend the evenings walking the main shopping streets. Its quite long - on one is the central station, hard rock cafe and the other side is open air ice skating. Food is not a problem as there are all types of restaurant, though a bit expensive.

We also took a days tour to Castle. Bought ticket from the tourism office opposite the Copenhagen Central. The bus goes opposite plaza hotel nearby. The tour was nice but a bit boring. Frederiksborg Castle - Its in the North Sealand in the magnificent surroundings of Hillerød. Fredensborg Palace - The tour continues past the Royal Family's summer residence. Kronborg Castle - This is the setting of Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. The Castle was built between 1574-1585, to protect Danish interests. One tip: The tour operator stops at a very expensive restaurant for lunch. Dont take it. Just go behind the restaurant and you will find a huge market where several cafes are there. The tour gives an idea of Denmark North of Copenhagen. If you look across the water, in the distance you will see the coast of Sweden.

Next day we took the train to Malmo from central station. One can board any train with frequency of 20 minutes. It takes 45 minutes to reach. Reaching Malmo, we walked past the central shopping areas, Stortorget to Gustav Adolf Torg. From there we caught bus to Ikea to have lunch. We also saw the twisted building called Turning Torso. We also shopped a bit, found it a bit cheaper than copenhagen. In sweden one has to pay SKR 5 to use a toilet / Loo.

Next time when I visit Copenhagen, I will try to take a hotel closer to one of the Metro stations or near the central station or stay at some airport hotel. Anyways the city can be covered in one full day, even on foot.
