“Great location”
Reviewed 10 September 2012

The hotel has a bit of old world Grand Hotel style charm left and that was one of the reasons we decided to stay there.

We had a room on the top floor at the back of the hotel, facing the inner courtyard. We had a direct line of sight to the belltower, but as we had read about the chimes, it didn't bother us too much. Other than that, there was no noise to the room from other rooms or from outside. The room was a bit on the small size, but the bathroom was large and spotlessly clean.

Breakfast was included in our rate. The food was good and there was a lot of variety - perhaps not as much as in other Scandic hotels I've stayed at, but still more than enough.

The best thing about this hotel is the location, as it's conveniently close to Tivoli, the railway station and a lot of the sights.

All in all, we had a pleasant stay but probably next time we would try somewhere else.

Only drawback, clock chimes from the town hall every hour from 8am to 12mn - needs ear plugs for those who are sensitive to noise.
Room is renovated and big is size. Big flat TV. All amenities provided with tea and coffee and kettle.
Very good breakfast - cold, hot food, Danish pastry ( best cinnamon rolls I have ever eaten ), fruits and juices. Coffee making machine provided as well.
Central position to Stroget (round the corner of hotel), walking in minutes to central station.
Canal cruise is a must do here.
Bought a clipcard of 10 ( 2 zones ) for myself and hubby. Clip 3 times to get us from airport to city centre ( total of 6 clips for return journey ) and the other 4 clips to take us to Nordhavn train station to join our cruise ship. All city sight seeing is easily achieve by walking.
Nice and beautiful city.

Located in the heart of Copenhagen, busy, near the central station (short walk), and across from Tivoli Gardens. Arriving from Stockholm via the SJ High Speed train, we were able to walk to the Hotel from the station. The lobby is busy, but modern, with a restaurant to the right and a casual dining / bar to the left. The check in process was quick and the staff helpful. We asked for a room on a higher floor and were immediately upgraded to lovely corner room with a view of the internal courtyard - be warned, the clock tower bell will toll, if you are sensitive to noise, stay elsewhere. The room was large, with a small seating area and two windows facing different directions. The bathroom was large and modern. The closet was oddly laid out, but not an issue for us. Overall a lovely stay - we would stay here again if we wanted to be in the heart of the city and near the train station.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade, higher floors facing the internal courtyard are the best option.

Was staying in Copenhagen for the weekend, and stayed at Palace Hotel. It is an old hotel with an old and elegant entrance hall. The room we got was recently refurbished and was maybe a bit "modern" for the style of the hotel. Still very nice and functional. The bed was excellent, but the blanket was a bit small, so it was a bit chilly.

Breakfast was not included, but we paid for it and it was excellent.

Free wireless wifi, but on our room we couldn't reach it. Thankfully the public network came to rescue.

The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We was able to put our baggage in the storeroom after check-out because of a late return flight. When it a bit later started to rain, we returned to fetch our umbrella, the staff responded; "why don't you just borrow one from us, so you don't have to unpack you baggage. The small things that makes a stay!

Recommended!

We stayed in the hotel for a two night city break at the end on August 2012. The rooms had everything we needed. Our first room (number 220) had some stains on the carpet. We stayed in this room on our first night - the noise from the bars outside was so loud we could barely sleep. I spoke to reception on the Saturday morning, the receptionist said he would arrange for us to move to a quieter room (so he seemed to know 220 was noisy). When we came back to the hotel in the afternoon different staff were on reception and they knew nothing about our room move; this was disappointing. However, Danielle arranged for us (both couples) to be moved to new upgraded rooms on the 4th floor at no additional charge - thanks Danielle!

The staff at the hotel were very good - friendly, polite and they all had excellent English (as everyone in Copenhagen seems to). The location of the hotel is excellent. I would stay there again (4th floor at the front NOT 2nd floor at the back). Overall, the place lacked something - the rooms have been refurbished but some of the windows are draughty and the public areas of the hotel and the lifts would benefit from some attention. I didn't see anybody in charge in the lobby, restaurant or reception - this may be the missing ingredient.

Stayed for two nights in August 2012 on a business trip. Single room (135).
Disregard the roadworks in front of the hotel: will go and leave a nicer City Hall Square. They don't interfere with a stay at the hotel.
Reception gives a poor impression for a prestige hotel: gloomy with the reception desk dull and tucked away at the rear. Reception desk is too small and understaffed if there is a queue. Both lifts could do with an upgrading.. rest of hotel was refurbished 5-8 years ago but they seem to have missed the lifts. The hotel was a marvel when opened around 1910 and original features are a pleasure. The refurb in 2003-08 kept/restored many of them. Rooms were brought up to modern standards.
Room was small: OK for one but not for a couple. Overlooked the internal courtyard. Bed was short but comfortable. Room was clean but not a fan of carpets in hotel rooms. Rather crowded with bed, table, chair, desk. Good wardrobe with sufficient hangers and indeed an iron and ironing board. Good for getting rid of creases in shirts from suitcase! Stayed clear of overpriced mini bar, (no bottle opener anyway.. a prior guest presumably taken it as a souvenir.. bad practice). I guess the Danish rating system is based on items in rooms rather than subjective quality so forces hotels to fit more furniture into rooms. It was quite a squeeze to get to the bed from the window (non-door) side so not for the less fit. One reason was room is really for a single occupant. (Check with reception when checking in). Bathroom was fine, shower in bath, would have preferred separate shower and no bath. Limited accessories for a prestige hotel. Minor gripe: the shower attachment to the wall was broken. On arrival the attachment was loose on the bath; cleaner next day simply put it into the slot, it fell out again. Should have asked maintainance to fix it. TV was OK, Nordic channels and BBCWorld, CNN. Disliked the menu system which kept trying to sell me films.
Free wi-fi in hotel .. (should be standard of course). Signal was adequate in the room. However password (given at reception) is on a daily basis, prefer full stay basis. There is a free PC with printer on the first floor to print boarding passes.
Breakfast was good: usual range of warm food and cold meats, fish, cheeses etc. Breakfast room, off main lobby, is well decorated etc. Good range of newspapers. As someone else noted there is no simple "English Breakfast tea"; instead earl grey, assam. mint etc. Staff helpful.
Overall a pleasant stay but somehow no buzz in the hotel. Its fun to read that Gregory Peck, Roald Amundsen and hosts of other celebrities stayed there, and its fascinating history as a centre of Copenhagen life but somehow the hotel now lacks that certain something; its a chain hotel inside a period building.

Room Tip: Seems a wide variation. Some rooms are very large; others, like mine, compact. Several of our group...

The Hotel is located just across the Tivoli gardens and beside the main pedestrian shopping street. Interior is elegant (but shows a bit it) age and the staff is very friendly. Room size and décor is in average, but the big shower is a plus. All in all a good experience, would go back (but avoid the bar … my vodka sour was terrible).
