“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

The location was very good, very quiet and pretty area with nice views on the waterfront ( in spite of construction on the wharf in front of the hotel in the harbor). Most other hotels are in busier parts of the city. Quick walk to Nyhavn if you want to be in the middle of a touristy area. It is a lovely walk along the harbor up to the Little Mermaid and the old citadel (Kastellet). About 10 minute walk to nearest Metro station. Amelionborg Palace is right next door, the royals are quiet neighbors :)
If we had been there longer we would have learned how to use the buses.
Excellent breakfast buffet which seemed expensive at first until we adjusted to Copenhagen prices! Then it seemed like a pretty good deal. You can eat enough to keep you full to the middle of the afternoon. Very attentive staff. I loved the espresso machine (try the Caffe Crema).
One thing I didn't like was the shower/tub unit. You had to lift your leg up very high to get into it, more than twice the height of a typical American tub. Then you foot landed on a slippery surface. Seemed rather risky for a business. Also found a similar situation in a hotel in Germany though...Glad I am not elderly or shorter than I am.
I would stay here again and would recommend it to other travelers.

Entering this massive storage block in the heart of the harbor, the first superlatives goes to the architects managing to turn it into a modern hotel! You feel almost privileged to stay on these exceptional premises, - in the beginning... The view from the room is really great as well, overlooking the harbor and with the impressive Copenhagen Opera House right in front opposite. That is - if you have a room at the seaside, for which you'll be charged extra. Unfortunately, there is no price reduction due to the noises from heavy construction works outside, scaffolding around your (little) window, and disturbing sounds from night parties at the jetty below.
Our room was average but well equipped, however - the bathroom belongs to bygone times.
Dinner in the hotel restaurant named SALT, was not too impressive, like the ordinary breakfast served on the same premises. (If you're fond of scrambled eggs, skip it!)
In spite of the negative aspects, we'll recommend the hotel for a short stay in The Queen's City, in fact, she lives next door.
If you travel by car, note that parking facillities are quite limited, and expensive.
Internet access is free.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a seaside room and ask for a high floor.

Lovely hotel - very helpful staff and well presented bedrooms - the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Great location in the Nyhavn area of Copenhagen with plenty of bars and restaurants in the vicinity.

Stayed here in May while attending the Eurovision Song Contest, and found it one of the best hotels I've stayed in. The staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful, the room was extremely comfortable, and it was ideally located for walking into town or wandering around the seafront area (the little mermaid is about five minutes walk away). There was a slight problem with a jammed window in the room when we checked in, but I've never seen an issue dealt with so quickly and politely in a hotel. We were even offered a free upgrade without hesitation. There was quite a good choice of food at breakfast, and we used the bar for a meal one night, and the food and service were excellent. The lasting memory though is of the friendliness of the staff...all the people we met in Denmark seemed to be just as friendly, but the welcome we received made it a wonderful trip, and we would happily go back another time!

We stayed here during Eurovision and can say the hotel overall is good...located 5 mins walking distance from picturesque Nyhavn and yet in a quiet area... There is currently some building work taking place in the area however nothing is happening during the weekend do it was very quiet. The building itself is very sturdy do you don't hear people walking above you etc. rooms are quirky with old wooden beams... Standard Room sizes are small with the tiny bathroom however first thing they offer at the reception is a larger room of a room with a view... It was functional enough for us for a short break... The one thing we found strange is that this hotel does not have an air con ... Not so good is it is hot as rooms are on a small size and could get stuffy even during the month of May... There is a safe deposit box, electronic instant charging minibar with no space to store your own stuff, tea/coffee making facilities.. Good hotel but not if you are a fussy guest :)))

My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Admiral. This restoration of this once warehouse has been done very tastefully. The staff were excellent, friendly and very helpful. We were given an upgrade to overlook the harbour though pleasant did have a lot of construction going on but there was no real noise coming from the site to bother us. The hotel is centrally located and an easy walk to all the major sites of interest. We did not eat an evening meal at the hotel but breakfast was enjoyable with plenty of variety. If I was critical of anything it would be the coffee but that is reflected in many hotels in Europe.

The Copenhagen Admiral is a wonderful building in a perfect location.

Unfortunately, the hotel is not very good. It's a shame, given the preservation of wood and nautical features of the hotel, its proximity to the water, views and access to downtown Copenhagen.

However, it's not a very nice place to stay.

The room I received (533) was not small, it was tiny. The decor was dated, with 70s styled blue carpet that was one step this side of being an absolute eyesore. The bathroom was equally disappointing - think Holiday Inn standard. The bed was an uncomfortable, narrow single. And like other reviewers, the noise, oh the noise. There is simply no noise insulation between the rooms. I literally snoring through the walls, not to mention the arrival of the occupants of the room above mine at around 1 am (and their walking, and conversations, and bathroom visits...).

Waking up, I had hopes that breakfast may redeem some of the stay, but I was shunted away from the main restaurant into an annex, with fixtures and food on pair with a high end college dorm. Unfortunately, poor businesses fail in many areas, and this was an example.

What the Copenhagen Admiral needs is for the rooms to be gutted and refit, like the Hotel Angleterre a few years ago. The building, views and location - not to mention guests! - deserve better.

BTW - there is no gym in the building, as I discovered upon checking in. The hotel does partner with a local gym a few minutes away, but given the size of the building and ample space for one to be installed, this reflects that the hotel simply has not kept pace with modern, international standards.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel!

Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
