“Great potential”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

In a building so old this really has a shot at being great, but there were just countless issues: construction going on outside - had to listen to it with the windows open as there is no AC. The top floor has little water pressure in the shower and the temperature fluctuates horribly. Coffee out front in the morning is great - yet they charged me for breakfast twice so watch out when they ask for your room number when you go out there. I had to have them clear it off the bill. I'd stay downtown if I had to do it again.

The Admiral is well-located for the waterfront and for the principal sights. Although used by both Businesspeople and tourists, the latter tend to dominate in season. The effects can be off-putting: congestion at check-in time with rooms unavailable and waiting required for room access; tourists uncertain where lunch will come from dominating the breakfast buffet and cleaning it out; and taxis competing with tour buses at the front of the hotel. The first night of my stay, a group of guests partied with loud music on a rented boat docked alongside the hotel until 1:30am (calls to the front desk proved futile).

These reservations aside, the staff make every effort to help. Service throughout my stay, especially at the front desk, was very good. The Salt restaurant also delivers above expectations for this grade of hotel.

Bedrooms are modest relative to the cost. Problems included the water view which looked out on a wharf under construction; the lack of good sound insulation between rooms; and the wooden beams, charming but dangerous if you get up in the night without remembering they're there.

Despite all my reservations, I enjoyed my three nights at the Admiral. There is a certain uniqueness about the place that's sufficient to compensate for the problems.

Room Tip: Request high floor with even numbered room ( these have the water view)

I stayed here for one night on a business trip. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Room was ok, not modern but had character due to the wooden beams and columns. I had dinner in the restaurant, this needs improvement as the service was poor, shame as it is a nice setting.Twice they gave my order to another table and then the waiter I complained to swore about his colleague who got it wrong, very unusual.
It is in a good location near the most picturesque parts of Copenhagen.

The hotel is in a great location. It has a beautiful view. The building is historic and very special, but other than one staff, the service was deplorable. When we arrived by cab to the hotel, our cab driver politely unloaded the taxi and looked around for a staff person to help us carry it in. No one was available. We had more luggage than usual and so carrying it in was a total drag. No one from the front desk offered to help us take the luggage to our room and actually watched us struggle. We got to the room, all beds in the hotel are twins (snuggle haters). We showed the front desk a photo we saw of a room and were told there was not one room in the entire hotel, including the honeymoon suite that had anything but twin beds. We were also told all hotels in Copenhagen are the same. We investigated and found that to be untrue. The bathroom was not very clean. The toilet took many flushes to fully empty and there were pubic hairs in the bathroom sink. Yuck. We were told upon check-in to expect construction the next morning at 7:30am. The hallway to the room has gorgeous arches. Unfortunately, between every arch is a large cart of towels covered up. The next day, we rented bikes from the hotel. When we returned, it was late and we could not find the route from the front of the hotel to the back. We had an early check out the next morning and asked if we could have someone from the hotel take the bikes back to the rental area in the back of the hotel. We were flat out told "no." The only glimmer of something that inched to a nice hotel was one front desk person, Yuliana, who made reservations for us at some very nice restaurants. If you can, stay elsewhere, do. I wish this had been a better hotel. They certainly have many of the components to have something wonderful.

We are leaving the hotel tomorrow (May 29) for a cruise and have been at the Admiral hotel for 3 nights. From the very moment we walked into this "stunning" hotel we could not be more pleased.
Our first encounter was with Daniel at the Reception Desk. He was very friendly and accommodating. My husband has a small "Mobility Scooter" and Daniel made sure that we were in a suitable and comfortable room.
We had another great experience with reception when we needed to call our Credit Card company.
They were very kind and actually called for us.
Our room cleaning has been prompt and excellent. Our bed, pillows & duvet are top quality.
The location couldn't be better.
Kudos to the Admiral Hotel.

Room Tip: Would suggest the "water side."

I spendt one night the 25 th to the 26th May 2014. Overall the hotel is prefectly located close to Ny havn and close the little mermaid
Overall It is a good hotel but you can find better value for money in the outskirts. A lot of ineffective staff that neglect customer service... I asked for a king size bed for my girlfriend and I as I had booked a double room but one the booking staff at the reception replied in a sort of ironic way that there were no in the hotel whcih I found "non sense"! I asked another receptionnist irght next to and he made the change without any problem! I find the service is quite poor in the hotel. You will find a lot of staff- most of them students that do not care about the customers and quite arrogant. I prefre to skip the experience in the restaurant Salt...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
