Copenhagen Admiral Hotel
Ranked #23 of 118 Hotels in Copenhagen
Reviewed 10 July 2014

We visited Copenhagen for one night prior to embarking on a cruise. The Admiral Hotel proved to a good choice. Old but renovated in modern styling it is centrally situated within walking distance of many major attractions including the Palace, Little Mermaid and the vibrant canal restaurant and shopping district.

Our room (back facing) was fine - adequate accommodation and well serviced. Service at reception was excellent.

Not sure I would recommend if for more than a couple of days stopover or for business purposes but if offered reasonable value for money.

Room Tip: Request a canal facing room - probably more expensive but you will have great views

This is the third time I have stayed here...obviously I like it! The hotel has real history and is a lovely converted grain store.
This time I am writing the review owing to great service on an early check in at 09.30. they found me a room at that time which was unexpected but very helpful.
Facilities here are excellent, position in the central area close to the palace and Nyhavn dock are great.
Rooms, staff and breakfast all good, despite this being a large hotel.

A perfect hotel, an absolute gem, with incredible views, atmospheric rooms, and sumptious beds and contemporary bathroom. Lovely and spacious public areas, and a sumptuous buffet breakfast which is amongst the best I have ever eaten. The location is handy for the Amelianborg Palace and Nyhaven, and the Citadel but a fairly long walk from the main shopping area. Lovely, professional staff, and excellent housekeeping. Such a lovely hotel, cannot wait to come back.

Visiting in July, it was quite warm and there was no air conditioning. We finally got a small fan to work on the second night. Wifi is totally unreliable in the guest rooms, though it worked well in lobby. It was expensive, but Copenhagen in general is expensive.

We had a Junior Suite which to be honest wasn't a suite at all it was a room with a mezzanine bedroom and a couch bed ! When the couch was down as a bed the room was very small and there is no drawer space so we were kind of living out of our suitcases.

The room was on the top (6th) floor and there was no Air Conditioning so it got really hot and really stuffy in the summer heat. The room was also very poorly serviced - they didn't restock the tea, coffee, milk etc however we got them from the service staff in the hallway.

The hotel itself is nice and the breakfast is very very good. The staff are charming and helpful and it is in a really good location for Nyhavn and the rest of the town. Tivoli is a bit of a walk however the city is so delightful that it is nice to do.

As with the rest of Copenhagen The Admiral is very expensive so you need to prepare yourself for a horrific bill !! We did get room service one time for our grandson and the food was delicious and hot. The Salt bar is similarly good for food with a lovely outlook over the harbour.

There is at the time of writing a construction site across the road so on Weekdays expect the clatter and banging to start at 7am on the dot. It doesn't bother us too much however it is worth noting. There is no work at the weekend.

Wi-Fi works well in all rooms.

Room Tip: In summer the 6th floor rooms get very stuffy

Very comfortable rooms, friendly and efficient service, great location, very nice terrace and generous breakfast. Possibility to rent bikes (well maintained, with locks and front basket) for sightseeing: very useful and convenient. A good choice whilst in Copenhagen for business or for pleasure.

it is a beatiful building in the best area in the harbour. rooms are big and nice.

BUT i moved the couch a bit to get to the plug and found empty beer bootles behing. unacceptable in my opinion - this hotel is quite expensive and proper cleaning is a MUST.

Also some renovations are really needed - its quite run-down when you look a bit closer

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
