“Nice hotel, fab location.”
Reviewed 27 January 2010

Went in January so got a really good deal on a room. Try and geta room at the back so you have a view of the water and the opera house (which is modern and beautiful).

The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are a little basic and dated but perfectly clean.

Brilliant strip of waterfront restaurants and bars just around the corner and only a 10/15 min walk to the centre of the shopping.

But do not get a smoking room!! I'm a light smoker and put down "smoking" on my booking form. They have a whole floor and smoking rooms and the smell hits you as soon as you get out of the lift. I woke up the first morning and thought someone must be puffing smoke under my door.

There was no problem when I asked to change room for the rest of my stay, the staff were friendly and obliging and it was all sorted in about 5 mins.

A lovely weekend!

Stayed in the Admiral hotel for my business trip in Copenhagen. Very nice hotel in a great neighborhood (very close to Nyvant). The architecture and the rooms are interesting. Very friendly staff. I requested a room with a king size bed and when they realized at check-in that the assigned room has 2 double, they fixed it right the way. The restaurant in the hotel is also excellent. Great breakfast and dinner.

Highly recommended!

I have stayed at the Admiral four times because my son lives in Copenhagen. I have been here once with the family (including teenagers) and the other times with my husband. All the times I have stayed here, it has been great. I have never had a problem.

First, remember that this is an old warehouse built many years ago, which has been converted to a hotel; hence the post and beam look along with exposed brick of the original building. (I personally think it gives the hotel a little character.) The rooms are your standard hotel room. Either one king bed (yes, two twins pushed together), or two doubles. The beds and pillows are comfortable. The bathrooms are your average bathroom. The hairdryers aren't very powerful, so I now bring my own. Word of caution....if you have a hair straightener, don't use it. Even though I brought my voltage converter, I ruined two very expensive hair straighteners! The rooms do not have safes, but if you need to store anything, you can bring it to the front desk for safekeeping.

If you stay at the hotel, be sure to book your room with breakfast since breakfast a la carte is very expensive! It is very good, and there are lots of choices. It is a typical Danish buffet, but they do offer a few American type foods (scrambled eggs, bacon, etc.)

The restaurant bar is fine. Everything in Copenhagen is expensive, so just be prepared to pay alot for everything!!! The bar itself is rather small, but surrounding it are lots of cozy chairs and tables. On the opposite end of the hotel are three computers. You can also get the internet on your TV in your room, but I find it gets horrible reception for some reason, so I just prefer to go to the lobby.

The Admiral is really close to Nyhavn with lots of great restaurants and bars. Be sure to take the boat tours which leave from the beginning of Nyhavn. They give you a great history of Copenhagen. Across the street from Nyhavn is Stroget, which is a wonderful pedestrian street with lots of great shops--Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc. to name a few.

If you walk in the opposite direction from The Admiral, you will walk right into the Queen's palace. Every noon they have the changing of the guards, which is really neat to see! Walk to the end of the street, and you will see the Little Mermaid statue.

Overall, Copenhagen is a great city, everyone is super friendly, and The Admiral is in a
very central location and an easy walk to everything.

The rooms in this hotel are comfortable and clean but rather basic and plain. The hallways are gloomy. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. The hairdryer was ancient and weak. However, the location is perfect, and the city of Copenhagen is absolutely beautiful. The close by restaurants are fantastic, and so pretty at night next to the canal. The shops are also very close to the hotel, and because there are few cars it is a pleasure to wander along the wide streets. Palaces and gardens are a very short enjoyable walk away. Copenhagen is very compact and flat, so it is a wonderful place to cycle or walk around, and the people and the city are charming. The hotel hosted many functions when we were there, and we found the noise from these functions, which continued through the night, to be very loud.

I had read mixed reviews of this hotel -- I got a cheap price (AUD150 per night) and so wasn't expecting much. Was I pleased.

First-Location - Hotel is about two blocks from many eateries and pubs. About ten minutes walk from Black Diamond (where I was working). And about four blocks from major shopping venues. Next door to palace and short walk to Little Mermaid. On the river. NYE the hotel held a fireworks display which we watched from our bedroom. To get to the hotel it's about a 10 minute walk from the Metro (yellow line from airport, UPSTAIRS--the guy at the railway station told us DOWNSTAIRS). Trains leave every 4/5 minutes--catch lift to street level (if you have suitcases) and head across the 'square' find Nyhavn and head towards river, then two blocks on right.

Two-Rooms. Good size with desks. WARNING - double bed means TWINS put together. I requested another room because of this (I thought it was a language breakdown) and was downgraded to a slightly smaller room - only to discover we still had twins pushed together. The rooms are well appointed, neat and tidy. Ask for waterfront and higher floor to get the views.

Three-Services. The staff were unerringly polite and their English excellent. In fact everyone in Copenhagen seems to speak English so it's a no hassle town. We had room service twice and each time the meals were good. We ate in the restaurant once and it was good but not exceptional. Breakfast was AUD26 ... it was a large buffet and lasted us for lunch. Very good value esp when you don't feel like foraging in the cold. FREE internet computers in lobby. Bar weirdly located ... sorta stuck out in the middle of the hotel; it\s not cosy and chairs were uncomfortable. Not a place for a romantic drink but sufficient when you want something but don't want to venture outside the hotel.

Costs - in Copenhagen expect to pay around AUD50 for a bottle of average wine; about AUD10 for a beer. Our meals seemed to always come to around AUD150 for the two of us. So at AUD150 per day the hotel was EXCEPTIONAL value.

I would absolutely stay here again. I looked at all of the hotels while here and this was by far the best value. It is a SOLID four stars.

TIP: Ruby cocktail lounge for fab drinks (AUD20 each) and atmosphere.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
