Copenhagen Plaza Hotel
Ranked #46 of 118 Hotels in Copenhagen
Reviewed 18 April 2013

This is the 4th hotel I have stayed in, in copenhagen. I always choose a hotel near the train station, restaurants and main attractions. We booked a suite on the day of our arrival and price was very reasonable for copenhagen and especially the quality of the hotel. Our 3rd floor room overlooked tivoli which provided a good view at night, however, street noise was louder than hotels I have stayed in behind the station in vesterbro. Hop on hop off city tour bus stop is really close. There are many restaurants within walking distance. The bar in the hotel is very expensive. The train station beside the hotel offers very efficient travel to copenhagen Kastrup airport (15 min), malmo, Sweden (1/2 hr) and lund, Sweden (45 min). These are beautiful cities in Sweden to visit and trains run about every 15 min. Download the DB Bahn app for easy access to schedules. The train station also has a variety of eating options. The 7 eleven has pastries, food, coffee, beer, wine, etc. at excellent prices for copenhagen, especially if you want to grab something for the room. I would definitely stay here again if in town.

We have just enjoyed an Easter Break in Copenhagen. We stayed at the Copenhagen Plaza primarily because of its location next to Central Station and Tivoli and reviews we had read. On our arrival from the train station we were greeted by a lovely girl at reception. She greeted us immediately in English, we must have stood out a mile. She was very interested why we came to Copenhagen and chose the Hotel. We had a great chat and she was so helpful and friendly. This set the tone for a wonderful stay. All staff are a credit to the hotel. The glass elevator is something else and is worth booking in just to travel on it. The room was lovely and excellently cleaned and maintained. The breakfast was very tasty. I don't go for sausage or bacon outside Ireland when I travel. The selection of breads and pasteries, cheese, ham etc set us up each day to tour this gorgeous city. We chose to eat out each day while we were touring around. We did not use the swimming pool or fitness centre, we walked Copenhagen instead. When booking out we were greeted by the lovely reception staff member who sent us on our way looking forward to returning again soon.

I stayed in the Copenhagen Plaza over the Easter weekend.
Good things about the hotel:-
The location was excellent, its right next to the train station and all the sights are within a very short walking distance.
Breakfast was great and we filled up to set ourselves up for the day and try to save on money as we had heard how expensive Copenhagen is! It was continental style and there was also a variety of eggs, bacon and chipolata style sausages and beans, pastries, yoghurt, fresh fruit, cereal and a choice of breads. Everything was very fresh and good quality.
The library bar. A really beautiful bar wood panelled bar within the hotel lobby. The drinks were expensive but not as bad as I was expecting actually. I had a delicious cocktail which worked out around £12 - probably similar to what you'd pay in a top London hotel! Certainly worth splashing out on a drink or two to soak up the atmosphere.
The lift - unique feature and worth keeping, very charming.
Bad things about the hotel:
Some basics were missing from the rooms which I would expect of a 4 star hotel; there were no tea and coffee making facilities, no ironing board, and no shower caps. We enquired about this and were told these were only provided in superior rooms - which I don't think is good enough in a 4 star hotel.
I found the service poor. There were a series of small things which left me with negative impression of the customer service standards, the room service line not being answered, waiting 15 mins for somebody in room service to call us back, the room service order being completely wrong when delivered, staff at breakfast forgetting requests, the restaurant booking line not being answered, our message about booking a table for dinner not being returned. The hotel was fully booked the weekend we stayed so I appreciate the staff were busy but the hotel should be able to cope with being fully booked without customer service for guests slipping.
Overall a decent hotel in ideal area for a city break.

This hotel has an excellent location in the middle of Copenhagen. Easy to access because it is just across the street from the railway station. If you arrive by air it is easy and cheap to take the airport train to the Copenhagen main station. Only a few minutes walk from the train to the hotel. Rooms are basic and if you have difficulty sleeping while you hear trains running this may not be the best hotel for you. That is if you get a room facing the railway. Breakfast is up to par with what you expect in Scandinavia. The library lounge is great for waiting for colleauges or just relaxing. The only real annoying is thing in the hotel is the vintage elevator that if it so desires will take you for several rides up and down before you reach your own floor...

Room Tip: Try to get a room not facing the railway!

We loved the Plaza. We stayed there twice and returning there was very comforting. The staff and amenities were great. We loved our room and did not mind the noise of the trains at the nearby station. It was very charming. We had a standard room initially and then a deluxe room the next time. They were both very nice. We had read a review saying to upgrade to a deluxe, but I would say either room was great for an extended stay. The bar was very cool, the breakfasts were good. It was located within walking distance to everything and literally steps from the Central Station and Tivoli. I loved the plaques in the lobby of all the famous people who had stayed there. Keith Richards! David Bowie! Would definitely return - and hope to soon!

Room Tip: The station side of the hotel has train noise, so if that is an issue for you choose the other side...

If you are flying to Kastrup and take the train to the Central Station (Hovedbanegård) you find the hotel just one hundred meters from the station. The location is central; you can walk to all central parts of Copenhagen. The hotel has a nice ambience, with a Lobby Bar and some entertainment on Saturdays. The room was bigger then expected. The breakfast was rather good but nothing special. We slept very well; we did not expect so quite surroundings! Overall the hotel is more like an “Old Charm Hotel”. We had a very pleasant stay, and can gladly recommend this hotel.

We spent three nights in this hotel as a base for a short stopover in Copenhagen on our way home from a trip to Iceland. The big appeal for us was the ease of access to a large number of city attractions. The old world style of the hotel also appealed.

The hotel is located adjacent to the main railway station and although other reviewers have complained about noisy trains at night, we were undisturbed in our second floor room. We found it very easy (both 60+ years) to walk up to City Hall Square and from there directly down the main pedestrian walk (Strogett). Getting to Nyhavn on foot was easier than we had hoped for. There were two 7-11 stores within a hundred metres of the hotel, plus lots of eating choices (Hard Rock Café, Maccas and local restaurants).

Our room had a slightly uneven floor (no problems) and was nicely spacious. It was certainly old, and the modern refurbishments didn’t match that well, but we were comfortable. Room heating was excellent and we could open our windows for fresh air. The free in-room wifi was great. We chose not to use a very rickety chair at the desk, nor the room safe when it failed to work even after being attended to by staff. The TV remote was so worn we could barely use it. There were few 4 star extras - no tea/coffee making facilities; no robes, slippers or sewing kit; and only disposable plastic glasses in the bathroom. The bathroom was large and bright, and almost scalding hot water arrived straight away every time, but he floor tiles were showing evidence of much wear and the shower corners had signs of mould.

The buffet breakfast was excellent, with more than enough choices to suit practically anyone. The famed Library Bar is worth a visit too with reasonably priced drinks and snacks.

One irritant (which we did know about in advance) was the 1.7% surcharge for settling our account with a “foreign” Mastercard.

A comfortable and very convenient place to stay but not 4 star as we understand this rating. On a future visit to Copenhagen we would not immediately rule out staying here again, but we’d certainly be looking carefully at what other hotels nearby were offering.
