“good location, great breakfast, fantastic pools ...”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

... yes, pools. Plural!

I absolutely love the DGI-Byens pools, having visited on a previous trip, so when I found they have a small hotel attached I had to stay for the two nights I was in Copenhagen recently.

The hotel is curious: more of a hostel, but a hostel with only private en suite rooms, so a really excellent hostel by that standard. Still, walking back and forth from the maze-like room areas to the main desk just to get the iron and ironing board (and then lugging it back ... and then lugging it all back to the desk) made it clear that this is not a business hotel, by any means.

Relatedly, there is no wifi access anywhere but the lobby area. That's right: 2013 and no in-room wifi ...LAN jacks, yes, but does anyone still lug about LAN cables, let alone even have a LAN jack in their tablets or notebooks!? (The nineties called: they want their tech back!).

But, weighed against those faults: the pool!! so very, very, very, VERY awesome if you're a swimmer (the main pool - again, there are several - is a 100m loop!).

Location: I like walking, so for me the location is fine for anywhere in the city, but others might prefer something closer to particular attractions. It is very close to the train station, and the Tivoli. Train noise is noticeable, and would be much more so in the summer (I stayed in late November), but didn't keep me up.

The included breakfast is fantastic, and in a really beautiful space just beside the main hotel facility.

All in all I really enjoyed my stay, but again, you're basically staying in a very nice hostel, not a full-service hotel. That said, it's a hostel with a gym and pool exponentially better than even the best luxury hotels, anywhere.

Room Tip: If you can, avoid the rooms facing the train tracks, especially in summer. Also, try to avoid the fu...

Clean, airy functional room with good shower room. Friendly staff and good quality breakfast. No, you don't get a full English - stay in England for that! Definitely no frills, but with all the delights of Copenhagen on your doorstep it is perfectly placed. If you want luxury, you have to pay for it - if you want value for money, clean room and great location this is the place for you

The Hotel is located in the center of Copenhagen next to the main railway station. This is the most positive feature. Sevice was kind and the linen was clean and of high quality.
You get access to DGI's pool and training facilities. These are public and not directly part of the hotel. They are connected by a open glass hallway (read cold). Breakfast was lean with no thrills. The Hotel is generally worn down and seems untouched since it was built (I am guessing in the 80s as the beechwood is typical of this time). A paintjob is way overdue. The hallways and stairscases remind you of an institution. If you have a set of wild kids, this hotel could be your first choice as you would not have to worry about them harming anything. know-one will notice the extra wear after your stay. I personally will only stay again when there is a bargain.

Arrived 21.30hrs and went straight to room to change. No hotel info in room and TV info channel seemed to offer nothing. Room basic but clean and serviceable but expected wi fi did not exists. Reception advised it only worked in lobby so I thought adjourn to the bar for a nightcap, to be told bar was closed so back up spartan corridor to spartan room to check less than brilliant tv.
Breakfast was a short walk to another building and was a good quality buffet but I do expect more from a place that calls itself a hotel.

This is a huge Sports Centre with a small hotel attached (most are the other way round, with a small sports centre attached to a larger hotel!).

We went for a leisure weekend to Copenhagen. The hotel was in the city centre close to the Central Station and walking distance from many of the main attractions: Tivoli is just a few minutes' walk away, as is the pedestrian shopping area in Stroget.

Overall, the hotel was very "minimalist" but everything worked very well. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom facilities worked well. We had a small balcony although there was no real view. Our only "gripe" was that, while the hotel supplied a kettle there were no cups which had to be obtained from Reception (we had taken our own tea & coffee). If you wanted tea & coffee, there was an extra charge which we thought was a bit mean in view of the cost of the room.

Breakfast was excellent, Continental-style, with lovely fresh bread and pastries.

The Reception staff were superb: very helpful in every respect. We would particularly single out Michael who could not have been more helpful.

The attached Sports Centre was wonderful. We used the enormous pool, sauna and jacuzzi, all of which was free to hotel guests. The pool is very well designed, with a "play pool" in the centre and an oval pool around the edge for serious swimmers to do circuits of 100 metres. Great idea.

Overall, we would go back (taking our own tea and coffee again!)

The only negative was the noise from the trains passing through the station: good to be so close to the central station but a little noisy at night if the window was open.

We would definitely stay here again.

We were at a time where there was another Conference in Copenhagen so most Good Hotel rooms were unavailable. This Hotel is Very Basic - Though the Room is of a Good size -- 2 Separate Beds - a Separate area for Dressing - Big Open Cupboards to store Clothes - Basic Bathroom - Colour TV - Basic Channels - running Hot and Cold Water there is No facility for free beverages in Room and No Mini Bar
Basic breakfast is served in a separate building - Cereals - Bread - Juice - Yoghurt - Tea / Coffee - Bolied Egg - Though was surprised there was No Toaster to toast the Bread Slices!
Located Next to Central Train Station .. which could be useful to some people - Though Early Morning Train noises can disturb some people

Room Tip: Choose Away from the Railway Sidings for a Quieter Sleep
