We just returned from vacationing in Denmark with 3 children . The final stop of a mini European tour covering Switzerland , Sicily and finally ended in Copenhagen where there are literally only 2 "luxury" hotels...some reviews claim they're the only 2 in Denmark .
We didn't know much about Hotel D'angleterre before we arrived except that it was recently renovated , the location is good and that it is very expensive .
Upon check in it turned out to be one of the nicest properties we've stayed at , the interior bears resemblance to one of my all time favorites , the Hotel De Russie in Rome .
Very tasteful contemporary interior design , extremely well appointed rooms and very cosy and comfortable beds . The linens are brand new as is the whole hotel . It is obvious the owners picked nothing less than the best to fit out this marvelous property .
As for the service , you can tell everyone is trying very hard and i do admit most of our stay has been extremely satisfactory . We really appreciated Virginia's effort , the guest relation manager , how she handled a crisis situation with the break down of our room's AC . Who would believe in a Nordic city like Copenhagen the temperature can reach 27 degrees at night . The 1st thing she did in the morning was to find us an upgraded room on the same floor as our children AND waived the 1st night's charge . This is how you can tell that the management isn't just about money but also they want to make a name for themselves , which they did .
We didn't try the SPA but it looks truly paradisiac . The restaurant is delicious , i highly recommend the Chateaubriand .
The only 2 things working against this hotel are as follows :
The construction of the new metro station is literally across the street which is somehow affecting the front facing rooms which have the best view . It's not that much an issue at night but could get annoying if you want to have a quite drink on the room's balcony and admire this beautiful city .
The culture of good customer service doesn't seem to prevail highly in Denmark , the taxi we ordered to the airport didn't even show up , i asked a waiter in the hotel's restaurant why aren't they serving food outdoor today he replied "management decision" !!! . So it must make it twice as difficult for a hotel when operating in such a culture .Mind you , that was only 1 waiter the rest are amazing . our youngest insisted on having spaghetti which isn't on the menu , what do you know , he just made it happen at a 1* Michelin restaurant !! try to ask for that in Paris :) you'll be thrown out of the place .
To conclude , we loved it , Copenhagen is a beautiful city with many good features and restaurants and the weather is just amazing .
Forgot to mention that the Concierge's recommendation for restaurants was spot on on every occasion . They booked us at a Sushi restaurant (Sushi Karma) which at 1st glance seemed a bit disappointing but when the food came , my oh my it was delicious .
We will definitely be back to 1-stay at Hotel D'Angleterre , 2- visit some sights we couldn't do with the children , 3- to try and get a table at Noma .
