“Good enough”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2010

Good value for money, convenient location, comfortable beds. An hotel and hostel at the time, depending what type of room you choose. Soundproofing is bad though, bring your earplugs that will help.

We stayed for a couple of nights at Saga and first impressions were good - the location is very close to the central station and within walkable distance to Nyhavn. The room itself was good - comfortable bed, couch, table and chairs and basin/mirror. We knew when we booked that there was no ensuite and would have to have a shared bathroom but as it was a last minute booking we weren't too fussed... except!

We were on the 4th floor, which had around 20 rooms with varying numbers of beds. The nearest toilet to us wasn't just outside in the shared hall as I would expect...it was out the door, down the corridor, then down another long corridor. I'm average sized and my knees hit the door when sitting! My boyfriend is just over 6" and had to duck to get through the doorways. Most unbelievably there was no basin/soap/handtowels or anything to wash your hands afterwards! Instead you have to open the door, walk back to your room, open that door and use the basin in your room spreading germs the whole way. Disgusting! Even further away were another 2 toilets which we took to using for obvious reasons as they did have soap/basin/handtowel dispensers.

There were 3 showers for the whole floor - 2 near the first toilet, one which had a lockable door, one with only a shower curtain between you and the public corridor which I wasn't going near. The lockable door one had a broken showerhead leaving only the 3rd shower which was down all the other corridors with the 2 toilets. Of course everyone else wanted to use this one too so there was often someone in it already.

Our other trouble was sleep - our room window opened out onto a back courtyard so outside noise wasn't a problem. However other guests were - a large group of young guys who treated the 4th floor as their own private space. Drinking and carrying on with doors open, shouting/running in between them until they went out at 12am (which we were okay with as we are young too!). However when they came home at 4.30am they continued this! We were awake for an hour until they finally quietened down, unfortunately not long after that we had to get up for an early train.

The staff were pleasant and the breakfast buffet is well done - juices/hot drinks, cereals/nuts/dried fruit, yoghurt, various breads/pastries and cold meats/cheeses. When we stayed the hotel was full and although there is a number of tables we had to wait for someone to leave before there was space.

This hotel was really easy to find. Take a direct train from the airport to the central station (Kobenhavn H), find the post office inside the station, walk down the steps just to the left of them, turn left and look up the side streets. There it is!
Staff spoke good English and were very efficient in everything they did.
This is not a hotel to stay in if you want a luxury experience. If you want to pay less and you dont mind shared facilities then it could be for you. Some rooms are en suite, others (including mine) were not. The bathrooms and the showers were up the corridor a bit. They were clean, well maintained and I never had to queue.
Tea and coffee could be bought in reception - there was none in the room. I didnt find any cheaper drinks in Copenhagen.
The room itself was clean, and a nice size. The decor was a bit early 90s in style, but everything was in excellent condition so no worries there.
A few other things..there's no lift, the city and tivoli gardens are minutes away on foot, there's a corner shop across the road and the whole place felt relaxed.

We stayed at the Saga in mid August, and had a great stay. We took the train in from the airport and once we got oriented, the hotel was just a block away. Here are some observations about the hotel and the city.

The hotel is very centrally located, right by the train station, Tivoli Gardens, and the main walking streets. The immediate location was pretty quiet. Though not upscale, it seemed safe enough when returning late in the night.
We booked a room for three, which was rather small, but looking at the floor plan of the hotel, it was probably as large as any room. We did have our own bathroom, which is not the case for many of the rooms. Our room faced a rear courtyard, and was pretty quiet the whole time.
No A/C, so if you're here during a heat spell, it would be hot. Open the windows wide and leave the door open, otherwise it'll get stuffy. Stairs aren't too steep, but two flights per floor, so if you're on the fourth floor like we were, that's eight flights up and down.
Rooms were clean and pretty spartan, but given the size, that was just right. The breakfast, as many have mentioned, is a pretty good spread. Given the cost of eating out, it will save you $12 to $15 per person every day. There's also free WIFI, which was almost indispensable for us. We stayed at some nicer hotels later in our trip where the in-room charges were about 15 euros per hour, so this was great value for us at the Saga.
We were here for three nights, which was just about the time we needed to see all of the city. It's a great walking city, so bring some comfortable shoes and have a great time.

The first thing which comes to my mind about Saga Hotel is the location. It's not even 50 meters away from the train station and therefore, very close to Tivoli and the town centre.
In this hotel, there is everything you need. I went with my brother and the stay went smoothly.
The breakfast was included in our bill and the selection was rather basic. We had the cereal and the usual bread with jam. Also, we had a taste of the lovely Danish pastries they had to offer.
They have free internet access in every room and if you don't have a computer, there is one designated near the reception. This internet was free for anyone to use.
One mini downfall was the fact that the bedroom didn't have an en-suite and the toilet and shower rooms were one each per floor. However in the room, there is a water basin so people could help themselves to a glass of water.
All in all, a very good hotel, very basic and I personally enjoyed my experience there.

Nice hotel, great breakfast buffet and you can see it from the Kobehavn Central Station. I stayed with 2 friends ina triple room and if was great - cleaned every day, sink in the room. Was a bit small, but not small at all for the price.

I never had to wait for the shared bathrooms, and on two of the nights we were there the hotel was full, so I think that's pretty good.

It is near some strip clubs (you may count that as a plus!) so do beware if you're making a family booking. This never bothered us one bit though - we had no problems with the area.

good price. very good location, less than 5 min walk from to the central train station. nice and filling breakfast buffet (no fresh fruit/ vegetables). friendly and extremely helpful/ servideminded staff. smelly rooms, wall to wall carpets, our room (on the bottom floor) was very warm, when we tried to open the window to get some fresh air the room was filled with cigarette smoke -nasty. A lot of noise from people in the street at night time...
