Highly desireable location, great charm and a solid lodging value. The service and helpfulness of the staff (Christian and ViVi) was exceptional. From assisting with maps to obtaining a bathroom scale, the staff of this place rocked. If you're looking to experience Copenhagen, its the place to stay. Food, beds, cleanliness all above average. Again, just super friendly, extremely nice people to deal with. So glad we stayed on both ends of our trip to Denmark. My very first travel post, but I was that impressed!!

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view of the canal.

Better than a hotel--everything we needed for a comfortable stay and delightful, helpful welcoming staff on hand.
The hotel is a red brick older 4 story building in Nyhavn facing the canal and all the colourful little restaurants and shops. Ask for a room with a canal view--you can open the big casement windows and soak up a view of this charming historical area. It's just a 5 minute walk to the Metro Station, the Stroget, Magasin du Nord and all the great shopping and about 12 - 15 minutes to the Noresport train station if you want to hop on the train for adventures farther afield.
Breakfasts are buffet style and include a healthy selection from fresh fruits, cereals, yogurts, juices to heaping baskets of homemade breads and of course Danish pastries! The variety of Danish cheeses and things like dried fruits and seeds were a bit of a surprise but a nice addition. The fresh brewed coffee was good and provided 24/7--essential for some of us! We also appreciated that half board was available for a very low cost, though we brought our vegetarian food to the dining room most evenings. It was nice to relax, play Scrabble and chat to the hosts and other guests.
The rooms were comfy and clean with big en-suite shower rooms and modern bonuses like hair dryers and a big flat screen TV with cable and a number of English stations...the Danish adverts were hilarious...
Our 10 days at the Somandshjemment Bethel were absolutely lovely--it's perfect for the budget-minded traveler--no taxes and a 10% discount for longer stay. We definitely recommend this wonderful, friendly little hotel!

Room Tip: Book early, request canal or corner rm, flr 3 or 4

The standard room was kind of clean, the bed were OK, but got woken up rather early in the morning due to noice from the yard. Also the cigarette smoke howering around in the corridor next to our room was not quite adequate for a non-smoking hotel. It appeared the some of the guests were staying longer and had taken some rights of their own as to smoking.

The staff was really friendly and the location is really good in the fashionable Nyhavn.

I think the hotel still provided good value for the money.

Somandshjemmet Bethel is a very good summer hostel but it is overpriced for January. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the location is great, the breakfast is great, and the service is okay but the hostel is completely lacking in creature comforts. They charge the same rates during the summer and that is when I would recommend staying here. During the winter, use the extra money to stay at a more comfortable hotel with discounted rates

The Somandshjemmet has a perfect location right on Nyhaven, which is a picturesque channel street with many restaurants.

Rooms are basic, but the view on the Nyhavn channel compensates for the no-thrill expecience. Also the price for 86 EUR per night for a single room incl. breakfast is attractive, especially for the tourism-oriented traveler.

Logistically, it is a great place to discover Copenhagen: It takes 15 walking minutes to see the Little Mermaid and also the same time to get to the Tivoli, where you pass through the buzzing pedestrian zone. Also, if you fly into Copenhagen airport, it takes only 14 minutes from the airport to Kongens Nytorv metro station (on yellow line) which is only 400m away from the hostal and only costs around 5 EUR for a single trip.

Reception is managed by young and helpful staff.

There is no free Wifi, but free coffee-to-go, which I would have prefreed to be the other way round.

We stayed for 3 nights Oct/Nov & can only concur with all the comments already made.
You won't be disappointed. Easy to find, helpful staff, more than adequate breakfast, coffee on the go all day, pleasant room (ask for a canal view), great value for money and above all the location is excellent.

You can see almost all there is to see in Copenhagen in 2 full days. Enjoyed the recommended walk laid out in the free maps available & saw everything - except The Little Mermaid who was at the Shanghai expo (probably back by now). Nice canal boat trip, the only thing not extortionate in the city. Unless on expenses, food is extremely expensive (£6 for an ice cream cornet!!) but on the whole, very good.

Took the 999 bus (bus-stop in front of the subway) to Malmo, Sweden (£12) which was a welcome & unexpected addition to our weekend.
