“It's great!”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

We stayed here for three nights in early June of this year as part of a trip to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Out of all the hotels where we stayed, this was the best in terms of value, service, location, and cleanliness.

I was a bit worried when we arrived because our stay was over a holiday weekend, our room faced the canal, and there was a lot of activity (and noise) outside. We closed the windows when we went to bed and they blocked out the noise; we opened them during the night and were fine. The last night of our stay was much quieter and we left the windows open all night. Since I thought we might have to leave the windows closed much of the time I requested a fan. None were available the first night, but when we returned to the hotel the next day after sightseeing a fan had been placed in the room, which was really nice.

As I said, our room faced the canal; as recommended on this site, we booked a corner room with a view and it is indeed worth the extra money. We had four big windows and the view is lovely!

As others have also noted, the rooms are simply furnished, but the beds are comfortable, and we had two comfy armchairs and a desk; the room was also very clean. If there is a drawback to the room it's the bathroom. All I really look for in a hotel bathroom is that it is clean and this one was, so for me it was fine. At the same time, the setup that one often finds in Scandinavia where there is not a separate bath or shower but only a (usually quite small) curtained off area in which to bathe is not great. However, it's not the end of the world and you get used to it.

I also want to reiterate what others have said about the staff: they're awesome! They go out of their way to be helpful and are very friendly.

Breakfast is nice, and there is a lot of it.

I would absolutely stay here again if back in Copenhagen.

Room Tip: As I said, the corner rooms with canal view are wonderful.

Copenhagen is a very expensive place so it is great to find a place like this hotel that is centrally located at an excellent price. Easy to get to via the Metro. Only snag is that there are a few steps to get to the lobby from the street. However, once inside the rest is easy. Rooms are very clean and very functional although not large by North American standards. But the rooms are comfortable. The included breakfast is good although probably a good idea to go earlier rather than later as that area can get crowded. Desk staff very pleasant and very helpful. As mentioned earlier the location is very good and easy to get around central Copenhagen on foot. So if you need a place to stay and don't want to pay the usual high prices then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Rooms not on Nyhavn quieter.

we just spent 3 days in the bethel hotel in copenhagen. the hotel is very comfortable, simple and clean-very nice breakfast, and afternoon tea. the manager, dorte, was absolutely lovely-- helpful, friendly, and very knowledgable. our room faced the canal-and the view was just beautiful. there are many cafes, ice cream shops, canal boat rides-all out the window! i never tired of watching all the tourists walking along the canal in nyhavn. the rates were very reasonable, and if you want location, cleanliness and value, the hotel bethel is perfect. we would return there again if we go back to denmark.

Room Tip: ask for a room with the canal view-just wonderful!!!

The staff of the hotel is extremely friendly and helpful. After an overnight flight from the USA, we arrived at 9:00 AM and they invited us to have breakfast without charge. Also, our room was ready early and we were able to unpack by 10:30 AM. The room was large compared to most European hotels that we have stayed in and quite comfortable including the bed and pillows. It is located in a central location and you can easily walk to most key attractions easily. It was also close to the Hop On Hop Off stop as well as the 11a bus stop and we had a view of the canal as well as the outdoor restaurants from our window. The only reason it is not a 5 is because of the noise from the restaurants and delivery trucks. If Tripadvisor had a 4.5 rating would have given the hotel that many stars. Most likely, if your room is not on the canal side, you will not have the noise issue.

After reading other reviews on Trip Advisor I suggested to the group I was traveling with that this is the place to stay. It did not disappoint. I booked room 122 and it was probably the best room in the city. The only room with a porch, we watched people all day coming to the area to photograph the canal that we had a much better view of. I can not say enough about the staff. The breakfast was excellent and with coffee and tea served all day it was a great place to gather before and after our excursions. Don't even think about booking anywhere else.

The Bethel couldn't be better located- on Nyhavn, the prettiest area of Copenhagen, and smack bang in the middle of all the activity- the boarding point for harbour cruises, the open deck hop on hop off buses outside the door, and the airport metro 500 metres away. Sure it's touristy, but it's fun and pretty. The hotel rooms are small, and pretty basic-- not much room to store your gear, no fancy bathroom, tiny television--but the bed is comfortable, the double glazing keeps the noise out, and the dining room downstairs is perfect for all day free coffee and chatting with other guests. Breakfast selection is limited, but the fresh bread is great, and the cold meat and cheese makes a tasty start to the day. The staff are all friendly and willing to help. If you want a 5 star chain hotel don't come here--but if you want location, atmosphere and great value, this is a top choice. The rooms facing the canal are the best, with a window onto all the action
