“Worst hostel I ever stayed in”
Reviewed 17 April 2014 via mobile

This place is the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The walls are paper thin, you can hear everything outside of your room. I had bad luck with snoring bunk mates so when I asked to changed rooms they said no, there were entry of rooms available. It was so loud in my room I slept on the bathroom floor just to get some quiet. The food sucks and it's in the middle of nowhere, you need to walk 10 min to the metro. For somewhere so isolated it's way over priced.

This hostel is in a really strange part of town that appears to have only very recently been built. It's like SimCity, oddly futuristic, with absolutely no character whatsoever. If you want to be near the heart of the city, I would not recommend this hostel. Buses and the metro are both walking distance, but public transport is expensive. It IS possible to walk into the city via Christianhavn, but it takes about an hour.

The hostel itself is used for school camps, which is pretty evident from the way in which the place is set up. It is not a good place to meet backpackers (if that's what you're after) - there is no atmosphere at all, even in the common areas. A lot of travellers were older (30+), so if you're looking for a younger crowd, I'd probably avoid it.

The showers are TERRIBLE. The water is hot, but pushing the button literally gives you 2-3 seconds of water. It is ridiculous. Wifi did not work in the rooms, and was sometimes quite slow/didn't work. There was also a really funky smell throughout the hallways and the dorm I stayed in - I had to keep the window wide open. It was bad enough that I stayed away from the dorms unless I needed to sleep. Each bunk has its own light, which would be great if it didn't illuminate the entire room. Plenty of powerpoints though, and lockers large enough to fit a daypack and a few other things.

The kitchen is pretty well set up, with about 8 stoves and plenty of space in the fridges, and cupboards to store other food. However, you do have to give a deposit for cutlery and crockery, which is incredibly annoying. Washers/dryers were also available in the afternoons (though expensive). Staff were friendly and helpful.

Great place to stay... If your on school camp. I booked a double room for me and my boyfriend and we got given a room with bunk beds! Nothing in the area to look at, bus stop out the front , takes about 20 minutes to get to the city center. Beds are not made, they expect you to strip the bed at the end of your stay and they charge you a lot of money for bed sheets! Absolute joke.

I stayed 2 nights at the Danhostel and chose it mostly for its location in Amager its lower prices and its free parking. Hotels in Copenhagen are expensive and having a car in the city is a hindrance as parking is expensive so this place solved that for me. It is a hostel but I had a clean and quiet twin room with bathroom for what is a reasonable price in Copenhagen, i.e., less that $200CND/night. Added to the nightly rate are costs for sheets if you do not have your own as well as breakfast both about $10. I would recommend bringing your own pillow though as theirs are quite thin. The place is quite big so I can imagine it is quite hectic there in the high season but am sure the staff can handle it judging by what I saw. It is not located in central Copenhagen but out by the convention centre however there is a metro connection within a 10 minute walk. Would recommend for sure if you are on a drive holiday!

Room Tip: single rooms in the G wing have bathrooms and are quiet and away from the main building.

The walls are paper thin and we didn't get very good rest as a result. The included breakfast was very good for the price however. The light rail station is a good 5-10 minute walk as is the big shopping mall, other than that there is not much around but fields and nature. Front staff is pleasant and spoke perfect English. If we went back to Copenhagen on a tight budget we would probably stay here.

Medium-sized hostel, overall clean, has communal kitchen; generally young guests. Had my food stolen from the fridge. A bit out of the way, "in the middle of nowhere", requires some minutes' walk to the overground. Charge for everything: my girlfriend wanted to stay together with me in my single room, and she was made to pay the full charge for a single room! A small room with minimalist furnishings. On the ground floor, as is the whole establishment.

I had a very pleasant surprise at Danhostel, as it was practically the cheapest hostel in town. The place is just beautiful, staff is friendly and rooms are extremely comfortable. Toilets and shower are clean and cosy. Wifi is good and heater works perfectly.
They unfortunately don't serve dinner so it was quite difficult to find something to eat at night; unless you go to the center, there is nothing in the area where you can have a proper meal.
