“Minimalist, glass and steel, wonderful water views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2011

Highly recommended. Minimalist stylish design. Comfortable bed. Spotless bathroom, as if it had never been used. Generous good quality buffet breakfast. Fantastic location with water views and a nice wide boardwalk into the centre along the waterfront. For Copenhagen, always expensive, this is a good value hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for water view.

The Hotel is well situated it is a 10 € taxiride to the Tivoli (or a 15 min walk) and can be reached quite good by Taxi from the airport (30 €) The staff is friendly in a professional way (do not try to get a smile from the barkeepers if you are late in the bar though) and it offers good views on the water and a nice architecture in the reception area. Rooms are spotless and clean well kept in a design style of furnishing and the bathrooms comtain all necessary things (important for me, shower is two meters high).

So for a business stay in Copenhagen or a weekend stay it will do just fine though the rooms are nothing spectacular. As a matter of fact as in most scandinavian hotels they are a bit on the small side. But beware what kind of room you get. First avoid those to the street since it is one of the main entrance streets into Copenhagen and even though the rooms are well insulated you will most likely notice it. Do avoid rooms that are next to the delivery doors to the hotel though. The first deliveries will be made at 6 am and are ironwheel on cobblestones. On the other hand though, if you do have get up at this time anyway, it saves you the trouble of taking care of your alarm clock.

Stayed at this hotel with friends for an extended weekend break. Nice modern hotel, rooms pretty small but bright and sparkling clean. Reception staff helpful and accomodating. Breakfast pricey but well worth the money. Location is a bit out of town but city center easily reached either by bus/train or abt 15-20 mins walk along the harbour area which is very pleasant in good weather.

Room Tip: Upgrade your room and go for harbour view.

Thank you for submitting your review of Copenhagen Island. We can also recommend you to rent at bike or take the lovely canalboat that leaves just behind the hotel to go to the city center.
We are looking forward to seeing you again.

The hotel is fairly new built in 2005. When you arrive you are confronted with quite a few stairs to reach reception which seems daunting if you have a lot of luggage. There is a lift for the disabled ( a metal platform that moves to reception) but it is not made clear if other guests can use it. It seems odd, building a hotel with a set of stairs before you arrive at reception.
The hotel is typical Scandinavian ie functional design. We had dinner in the restaurant. It is quite difficult to find the restaurant as you have to take lift to the first floor, then walk along and then down again. Again there are no signs to poitnt you in the right direction. And if you want to use the loo whilst at the restaurant you have to walk down a set of stairs again.
The food in the restaurant is really good. Some Danish creations with a mediterranean spin. Service was friendly with a Mexian waiter providing attentive service. The wine card was also good and some good recommendations from the waiter. Views are excellent with a view to "Bryggen".

It is not easy to get to this hotel from the station though. It is only a short walk, five minutes but if you have luggage it is not easy to walk across the cobbled pavement and also the pavement gets quite bus with cyclists and pedestrians sharing the path.

Overall, the Copenhagen Island is a comfortable hotel for tourists or business people. The views on the Harbor side are preferrable (be sure to ask). Also the hotel rents bicylces, which are essential for getting into the heart of the city (-5 min bike ride away). I've stayed here on two occasions and both times had an enjoyable stay. My only complaint is that the front desk is staffed a bit light, and delays for simple requests there can take a while. This however seems to be a common problem in Copenhagen.

I recently stayed at this hotel and for the most part, it was fantastic! My room had a great view of the harbor and the weather was just warm enough that I could open the door and enjoy a coffee outside. Rooms were also very clean and I can even recommend the restaurant.

I was traveling with two colleagues and on the day of check out, one of the desk attendants was very rude. We asked him if he could help us print our boarding passes, and he said "This isn't an airport, this is a hotel". Although I completely understand his point, his nature was rude and aggressive. For the price that was paid, I would expect better treatment, or at least a polite demeanor.

I will stay here again for business, but the next time I go to Copenhagen for leisure, I will choose a more polite hotel to take my money.

I was given a room right next to the beautiful elevator banks. Those beautiful pieces of art, well, kept me awake until 1:30am then woke me up around 5am. The guy at the reception told me that it gets quiet at 1am and back to usual noisy at 6am. He wasn't too far off. My other choice would have been an even smaller room facing the street. I swear.
