We are frequent visitors to Copenhagen but this was our first time on this side of the city. We got a great deal on this hotel and spent a couple of days before moving on to stay with family.
We were lucky with the weather which meant the views of the harbour were spectacular with blue skies reflected in the clear waters setting off the stark lines of the architecture in this newly gentrified area. Proximity to the train station was handy, though one day we just walked into Stroeget and on to Nyhavn - it didn't feel like such a stretch but in cold or rainy weather it'd be a different story.
The hotel is very modern, rooms not very large but have high ceilings and are well-appointed. The bathrooms are nice, plenty of space, good water pressure. The only odd thing is a glass insert in the bathroom wall - fine if you're a couple but could be offputting for friends sharing a room. Views are great, we could see right down to Vor Frelsers Kirke. There is free wifi and the aircon works well.
Staff were not the most wonderful, not as friendly as Danes normally are in my experience, and definitely not as efficient. Breakfast was a little haphazard, with really horrible scrambled eggs (probably the carton kind) and a lot of food running out and not replaced half an hour before breakfast finished up.
At night, the hotel is far from the centre for impromptu dining out, but this proved a surprising bonus: we discovered the restaurants of the nearby Koedbyen (meat market). For fans of "The Killing" this is where Sarah Lund has a chase with the killer through cold storage and ends up in a skip with a gun to her head. It's being gentrified and has some great dining spots such as Fiskebar and Nose2Tail, well worth a visit.
The large shopping centre Fisketorvet is right next door - we didn't get to indulge in retail therapy, however, as we were there at Easter when Denmark has more public holidays than anywhere in Europe, it seems!
We would stay here again, but we'd eat breakfast somewhere else.
