Copenhagen Island Hotel

We are frequent visitors to Copenhagen but this was our first time on this side of the city. We got a great deal on this hotel and spent a couple of days before moving on to stay with family.

We were lucky with the weather which meant the views of the harbour were spectacular with blue skies reflected in the clear waters setting off the stark lines of the architecture in this newly gentrified area. Proximity to the train station was handy, though one day we just walked into Stroeget and on to Nyhavn - it didn't feel like such a stretch but in cold or rainy weather it'd be a different story.

The hotel is very modern, rooms not very large but have high ceilings and are well-appointed. The bathrooms are nice, plenty of space, good water pressure. The only odd thing is a glass insert in the bathroom wall - fine if you're a couple but could be offputting for friends sharing a room. Views are great, we could see right down to Vor Frelsers Kirke. There is free wifi and the aircon works well.

Staff were not the most wonderful, not as friendly as Danes normally are in my experience, and definitely not as efficient. Breakfast was a little haphazard, with really horrible scrambled eggs (probably the carton kind) and a lot of food running out and not replaced half an hour before breakfast finished up.

At night, the hotel is far from the centre for impromptu dining out, but this proved a surprising bonus: we discovered the restaurants of the nearby Koedbyen (meat market). For fans of "The Killing" this is where Sarah Lund has a chase with the killer through cold storage and ends up in a skip with a gun to her head. It's being gentrified and has some great dining spots such as Fiskebar and Nose2Tail, well worth a visit.

The large shopping centre Fisketorvet is right next door - we didn't get to indulge in retail therapy, however, as we were there at Easter when Denmark has more public holidays than anywhere in Europe, it seems!

We would stay here again, but we'd eat breakfast somewhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room with a view overlooking the harbour. Not sure if there are some rooms look...

This was a great hotel - very modern and stylish and in a great location. It was not only next to the harbour and a shopping mall but there's also a stop on the sightseeing boat just outside the hotel which was really hand. It's a walk to the station and the main areas though.

The breakfasts were immense - lots to eat and choose from. Would have liked to see more kitchen made dishes though but perhaps that's a British/American wish. Loved the choice of breads.

Only thing is the service was a little off - we found the reception staff cold and reserved. We had arrived early for check-in and the room wasn't ready - the staff wouldn't tell us how long we had to wait or even offer us drinks. Told us to go to the restaurant which we found rude. Also the room was booked for three people but they gave us a double room with a camp bed which made the room cramped!

Still a great hotel to stay at and love the style.

Very impressive for its ultramodern architecture, high tech furniture design and the striking views on the water, this hotel has two main drawbacks: the location, far from the city center (Nyhaven is at a full half an hour walk, although it can be nice if you follow the waterfront, weather permitting) and a cleanliness issue.

I made the mistake of looking under the bed, and it was dusty. The armchair in my otherwise very nice room had a huge stain on the seat cover. Tables in the breakfast room had halos of old smudges, and some spills of coffee on the floor where left there to dry.

Nothing really serious on the whole, but all these details together gave the impression of sloppy cleaning, surely not up to the general environment of the hotel, and very different from previous experiences I had in hotels all around Denmark, where rooms can be very small but are consistently spotless.

Reception staff was efficient and kind, and breakfast was good and plentiful. In fact, I would have loved to give a better ranking to the hotel, as I liked very much the architecture and the views, but...

Stayed here a while back as part of The Global Scavenger Hunt travel adventure competition while visiting Denmark. This hotel was nearby a train stop and was clean, modern, efficient. Liked the free wifi too (I will not return to a hotel that charges me for wifi--where is the cost really?)

Room Tip: Get a room with a water view!

This hotel is modern with a nice design. We had a room with a balcony towards the sea line, it was very nice. The breakfast was good and the staff friendly. In the evening we had dinner in the restaurant and we enjoyed it. We were very happy about our stay.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Copenhagen Island Hotel. It's ultra modern and sleek - our room overlooked the harbor. One weekend night, we could see gorgeous fireworks from our hotel window. It is located next to a mall, where we were able to eat dinners at reasonable prices since food is very expensive in the city. It is also located close to the harbor tour stop, which we enjoyed. We rented bikes from the hotel for $20 per bike per day. This is a very friendly biking city with paths everywhere. Breakfasts at the hotel were great - all you can eat for about $18 US per person. This fortified us for the busy days touring the city. We'd recommend this hotel as a good value for this pricey city.

Nice business hotel. Good wifi, breakfast and location (10-12 minutes’ walk from CPH H, so airport->hotel app. 30 minutes). Probably only con - too soft bed.
When You have free time head to Vesterbro just over bridge and sure visit Mikkeller. Enjoy good atmosphere and extraordinary delicious beer selection (and take small ones because the night will last this way longer).
