“A good place to stay”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

The Copenhagen Island Hotel is located about 20 min walking from the Central Rail station, 3 minutes by Taxi from the same location, about 60mts from the regional train station, which has about 4 different lines that passes by on there way to the Central Train Station which is only one stop, so location although not being in the center, is not a problem; Local buses run 24 hrs a day and taxis are on call 24 hrs a day, in 5 min they are at location. The hotel is next to a shopping mall which has movie theaters and well assorted shops, but is not noisy or crowded.
The hotel is very modern looking property build by the river bank on a artificial Island those the name off the property. Access from the street there couple off steps, they have a cargo elevator on the side for the luggage is needed, and upon request they will help you, as for disable gust I did not see a entrance but being a new building and Danish they must have one (to those never being in Denmark there modern construction buildings are a work of art and designe).
Front desk personal very pleasant helpful, check in and out is a breeze.
Room: The room is very clean the floor is Parquet which is so much clean than carpet wall to wall like most hotels have, very modern looking, that say they are small than what one is regually use to in other places like the USA, to be fare it is about the size of a room in Manhattan or San Francisco down town standard room, apparently that is the standard size room in Denmark, so if you come alone its ok, if you are a couple or more that is going to be some what crowded( to be fare I am describing a Standard room, cannot tell how are the category rooms) there is a very small closet, no safe in the rooms, need to rent a safe in front desk at a price off 25DKK for the entire stay. They have WiFi free internet in the rooms and entire property. There were 2 major problems for me in the entire stay, if you suffer from bad back there mattress are a Very Soft one sinks in them not Orthopaedic one bit , at the request they put a plank off wood between the mattress and the bed box those improving some what, but if you are accustom to a firm or semi firm mattress is going to be a problem also there size is twin or two twines side by side, again don't turn around too much. The second problem for me were the black out blinders, in the winter that is not a problem but in the summer its a major issue, as light starts to me out around 3:30am by 6am the sun is up there. The black outs are modern looking blinders that allow light to go through so if you are a light sleeper be worn. Rooms are quite, if you get the back off the hotel rooms you will get a nicer view off the canal also the river rooms some have a very small balcony, the front rooms look towards the city, road, railway, which is ok if you are only there for the room.
Breakfast: The breakfast is complete, it had assorted breads ( Danish Bread is Excellent) some Danish Pastries, cold meats, cheese, cereals, fruites, Scramble eggs, Bacon, sausages, assorted teas, instant hot chocolate and regular filter coffe on the tables. Everything is self service even the silverware they will only clean the table and bring you milk and refill for the coffe po; Again can't complain.
They have a Business center, if you need to do your web check in one can do it free off charge and just email the boarding pass to front desk and they will gladly print it out for you.
Overall Staff are very helpful and pleasant, other than the Mattress issue its a good property to stay if you want to be near the city but not in the center.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back off the hotel, mind it might be at an additional fee as it looks towards the river...

Thank you for your extensive review on your stay with us. It is a pleasure to read your review and we are very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. It can be a bit difficult to have beds which suit the needs of all our guests. Our beds are soft and as you already mentioned we can put a bed board under the mattress to make it harder.
During the summer months the sun will rise early and you might experience some sunlight in your room in the morning.
We really appreciate you taking your time to write about us on Tripadvisor.
Should you ever travel to Copenhagen again, you are more than welcome to visit us again.

I had the pleasure of having a sleep over at the Copenhagen Island Hotel during an offsite with my company. The hotel is very good having all the facilities that I look for - ironing equipment, hair dryer and free wireless internet. It is not located in the city centre (1-2k outside) so if that is what you are looking for pick something else. The food is okay without being great. The meeting facilities are good. If you are into running there are some great opportunities running along the harbour which is really nice.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view to the harbour - very nice view

This is a modern business hotel in a good location 20 minutes outside the city center. The gym is quite small with very limited equipment. Even though I had asked for a quiet room I got a room right opposite the stairway (the hotel was certainly not fully booked). Check in was quick but not very friendly. There was quite a bit of noise from the outside as well as from the next room. Breakfast was good with enough variety.

Thank you for your comments on your hotel stay. We just put in new training equipment in our fitness centre and now we have a variety of different training equipment.
We are sorry to hear that you found our service unsatisfactory. As you were not satisfied with your room, you should have contacted the reception right away, as we could have moved you too another room. We are happy to read that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet.
Looking forward to seeint you again.

Actually this hotel is brilliant for it's location. right next to the water for great walks, and next to a really good shopping centre, for all those daily essentials.

The hotel can be reached by walking from the Central station, or if preferred from the Dobblebro train stop 5 minutes away. Either way, don't panic. It's a doddle of a walk. And a great quiet location. Central Copenhagen can be extremely busy and full on in tourist season, so this is a nice place away from all of that. Added to that, there is the "hop-on hop-off" boat stop just behind the hotel. More handy that words can say.

The room I stayed in was based on the 1st floor, and faced the west highway. It was very quiet, the hotel is very quiet, I slept really well. The Air-con is brilliant, I kept the room temperature at 10c throughout my stay, this whilst it was a humid 22-27c outside.

The room had cleaning issues, dust everywhere, especially on the tops of the wardrobe, but otherwise ok.

TV channels include English channels ( CNN-BBC Worldwide), but I loved watching the Swedish and Danish ones as well. Even though I didn't understand a word of the Danish ones! There are no kettles or ironing boards, but I asked for one and received them within 5 minutes. Excellent.

I would really recommend this hotel for many things, but as a smoker received the usual leper treatment that goes with that these days. Originally booked a smoking room, but advised that " non were available, and that they couldn't please everyone! ", which after booking this specifically prior to the trip was surprising. It's always a shame when a hotel ignores requests, however anti-social smoking may be considered these days. they have 12 smoking rooms in the hotel. Some on the 5th floor, some on the ground.

I had a breakfast included deal, which was great. The breakfast room is well stocked and well run. They advise visiting it at 6:30 am to avoid the rush of later. Which I did, and after went back to bed till 9am! But to be fair, it was busy then as well. Good food though. Well run.

It's overall a great hotel, and the plus point heavily outweigh my negatives. And I would stay there again. It's location cannot be faulted, and this is so important. I love the new modern hotels over traditional and fussy hotels that abound. So if you like modern like myself, then you'll love this one. The lifts are bigger than shoeboxes as well, which is great. But take care walking up the main entrance stairs, and the glass stairs to the 1st floor with wet shoes. The 1st floor stairs are narrow and slippy, so use the handrail.

Overall highly recommended.

Room Tip: In summer stay on the West side, the light at 3:30am at the morning could be too much. In Winter pro...

It was a shame that we only stayed for one night as this hotel provided a lovely place to stay.
Check-in was easy and we asked to upgrade straight away so that we could enjoy the more scenic side of the hotel which was worth doing as the city side view was a bit too brownfield/derelict to be honest.
The rooms in our opinion were very tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean too. The bathroom was clean too and very bright/shiny. Views from the 5th floor room were good and the early morning sun didn't penetrate the room as much as others have said, although we may have been more tired?
The bar staff were helpful and much like most of Copenhagen the drinks cost a lot of money - a small cocktail (in a rather plain glass rather than a cocktail glass) and large beer costing about £18, no value there then. I would like to mention that bar staff licking straws dipped in the cocktail mix that my partner had, while in view of customers, is not the most appropriate thing to do but that's my opinion.
Breakfast was excellent, how anyone can criticise it's quality is beyond me? So many choices available, egg, bacon, cold meat, pate, cereal, fruit, fish and one of the nicest Brie I have had for a long time.
Checking out was easy and we were also allowed to leave our suitcase in reception for the whole day which was much appreciated.
It is a 15 minute walk from Tivoli to be honest but it was our preference to be a little bit detached from the noisy streets in the centre of the city.
Would we go back? Absolutely!

Room Tip: 200 kroner upgrade is worth it if you would prefer a water view.

Two things that this hotel never lacks are the contact with light and water. It is a very luminous and modern structure with windows everywhere. The rooms with large windows offer a sense of space and the brakfast area, on two floors, is spaceous an right on the canal.

Room Tip: even standard rooms, though not very large, are pleasant and confortable

Stayed here for a weekend in June 2013. The hotel is new, modern, clean with good facilities. The hotel itself is about 10~15 minutes walk from the Copenhagen main train station, and by the water. Rooms are on the smallish side in European standards but otherwise decorated in a modern and simplistic manner.

The hotel is very quiet at night, making it a great place to chill out; try to ask for a room that is facing the water as otherwise you'll be looking at a road and rail tracks running into the train station. The water view is obstructed by an office building but is ok.

Only gripe we had was the curtains was fairly bad at blocking out light and could potentially make it difficult to fall asleep again if you're light sensitive.

Hotel is about 30 mins walk from the main shopping street, and 1hr walk from the little mermaid.

Room Tip: Try to be on higher floors, facing the water. Note standard rooms do not have kettles.Bathroom wall...
