“Excellent meat and low price”
Reviewed 22 February 2012

I found this place quite interesting - thay have a coal bbq in a middle of the restaurant. Food was tasty and feeling pretty original. Prices were low and I could go again :-)

“I'm a durum shawarma kebab eater”
Reviewed 14 February 2012

Konya has chicken and processed shawarma meat spits. They have other typical food items you'd find in a kebab shop like meat skewers. Their shawarma meat has a nice cumin (spidskommen) taste to it.

It's located in an area where you'll find other kebab shops within view. The clientele are middle easterners, foreigners and Danes. The atmosphere is small, basic and grungy but clean, it's just the normal cheap kebab shop. They accept debit and credit cards and their prices are good.

They put cilantro (koriander) and onions on my durum. The durum had about 1/3rd of the meat some of the larger durum shops and the meat was shaved paper thin but that's acceptable since it's 15 kr cheaper than some other places (35 kr for a durum).

The white sauce on the kebab was good. It didn't seem to have any specific taste to it and it wasn't nearly as good as the best ones I've had but I was happy eating it. The chili is supplied in squeeze bottles on the table and is a little sweet without oil. I didn't enjoy their take on the chili but that didn't stop me from stuffing my kebab full of it.

Konya isn't the best kebab shop but because they use processed shawarma instead of the real shawarma, which is often sour tasting and gives you the dry/liver texture in the odd bite, I consider their taste better than many others. I think it's fame comes from reviewers not having tried the other 30+ kebab shops around Copenhagen.

If your focus is on white sauces and the chili sauces and the size of the meal then you'll have a better experience at many other kebab shops, even if they have the real meat.

Which is the best kebab shop? I found one north of Cph on the way to the Louisiana Museum at a train stop which was my favorite. I wish I knew it's name. There is also one in Norrebro down the street from the internet cafe, the furthest one down on that block. When it has the processed meat spits it's damn good because the components, size and condiments are delicious.

Hands down though, the best kebabs I've had period anywhere in the world are in Slagelse (near Copenhagen). It doesn't matter where you go there, the kebabs are so good. They use processed meat usually and they make their sauces amazing. I'd compare them to American ranch dressings for delicousness. The one I make special trips there for is Uptown Kebab. I'll be going there this week for a durum run. It's not far from Cph, 45 min but it's worth it.
