“GREAT BREAK”
Reviewed 3 January 2018 for a stay in December 2017

Loved our short stay in this lovely cozy accomodation, absolutly perfect for us and easy to get to, well placed to explore the Countryside walks, travel for 30 minutes or so and your into the Scottish Borders or on the Northumberland Coast.
We were lucky enough to get a fall of snow during our stay which added to our enjoyment, our 2 little Dogs were overwhelmed by it.
We would defenitly return to this cracking little property.
Thank You Ian & Clare
Best wishes for 2018
Regards
Steve & Denise

“Almost perfect”
Reviewed 9 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Lovely cosy cottage on the edge of nowhere. Very nicely fitted out inside, clean & comfy beds. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, great if you like hiking or cycling. We were a little less adventurous, but enjoyed day trips to Jedburgh, with its fantastic abbey, and the Roman town of Vindolanda. The kids particularly liked the pair of swifts, who spent a few days restoring a nest outside their bedroom window.

“A lovely quiet spot”
Reviewed 30 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We loved our week here, such a lovely peaceful spot. The right amount of space for us, and the downstairs bathroom was helpful as we are awake at different ends of the day, and so did not disturb each other!

The arrangements for booking/access were clear and the owners were neighbours, so no problems if help was needed with anything.

Our week flew by, we could easily have filled another week. Although the location seems remote it is within easy reach of Durham, Newcastle, Alnwick and Bamburgh, as well as the Kielder Forest nearby.

Best trips - Bamburgh Castle, Cragside (Rothbury) and The Angel of the North (Gateshead).

Great local pubs - The Redesdale Arms (Rochester) and the William de Percy (Otterburn) were both excellent. Our best cafe was in Rothbury (Tomlinson's).

Many thanks, we will return one day.

“Perfect”
Reviewed 12 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Looking for relaxation after days exploring the amazing countryside The Old Hayloft is just the spot. It's easy access for trips into Newcastle or the coastline at Bamburgh, Seahouses & Holy Isalnd is ideal, picturesque views all the way. The cottage is very comfortable & has all you need. Lovely to just hear the birds singing and the distant sound of cows & sheep.
Thank you just wish we lived closer!.

“Perfect base for a peaceful country break”
Reviewed 5 February 2015 for a stay in May 2014

Mr and Mrs Cowie at Raylees farm have done a great job converting the Old Hayloft into a comfortable apartment for couples and small families. A compact and well-equipped kitchen diner has everything you need to cook local produce available in nearby Otterburn, and sufficient space for our family of four to enjoy relaxing evenings after long days out exploring the beautiful local countryside. The warm bedrooms have deep-set windows with views of wild moorland and quiet farmland, and which are visited in spring by the beautiful house martins which nest under the eves. In fact it would be a perfect place for birdwatchers all round, with curlew and other moorland birds locally and the Northumberland coast and Farne Islands around 45 minutes drive away.
The Hayloft adjoins the farm - fresh eggs, and the children enjoyed seeing the animals being fed- but is separate and private. Access is surprisingly good, given the location, with trips to nearby Belsay Castle or even Newcastle a rapid and scenic drive away. WIth the Hayloft as a perfect base, we spent wonderful days out at Kielder reservoir where we rented bicycles, Alnwick Castle (of Hogwarts fame (or the seat of the Percy family if you are not a Harry Potter fan!), strolling along Hadrian's Wall and visiting the castles of the coast (Dunstanburgh, Bamburgh). But the real star is the stunning and unspoilt countryside. It is easy to find big open spaces with few people, so if you are looking for peace and quiet, you've found the perfect spot. That feeling is enhanced by being WiFi free (its liberating, really - try it!), but if you need your internet fix, the Redsesdale Arms, ten minutes up the A6, has free WiFi access, decent food, and is family friendly. We also had a huge and enjoyable dinner at the very traditional Newcastle House Hotel in nearby Rothbury.
The Old Hayloft has so much to recommend it. Great value, comfortable, friendly and peaceful. We hope to visit again soon as there is so much more to do. We loved it.

“Great little place, wish we could've stayed longer”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We had a great three nights at this property. It's well equipped and very well presented, it was just the right size for my husband and I and our 16 month old. The owner was very helpful on arrival as well as during the booking process- arranging a cot, highchair and stairgate for us and providing useful information and directions. The location is spot on for exploring the national park, Hadrian's wall and the coast. We'd definitely like to return and stay a bit longer in the area.
