“Hidden gem”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

We stayed here in July as we were spending two days at Alton Towers. This place was a little hidden gem. Great value for money, only two minutes drive from Alton Towers and with a pub just down the road. WIshed we could have stayed longer. We booked the Sarah Suite which had two bedrooms, one with en suite, lounge/kitchen etc. The owners stock your fridge with breakfast items such as bacon, eggs, sausages etc. All in all it was fabulous value for money. Every little detail was thought of. Almost don't want to share this review as more people will surely use this making it difficult for us next summer! It was immaculate, large and airy and the kids loved it.

Thank you for your review. Teenagers and parents really appreciate the separate bedrooms with their own TV and DVD player, privacy for them but parents can still keep an eye!! We are glad you enjoyed the sausages etc, they have been a big success this year. The staff will be so happy to read your comments about cleanliness.

We staying in the Rebecca Suite for 2 nights for my partner's birthday. We chose this hotel based on the excellent reviews and proximity to Alton Towers. It is a beautiful property - the owners were warm and welcoming on arrival, showing us to our room and explaining where things were locally. The room was very nice. The kitchen was well stocking with lovely fresh farm shop produce; sausages, bacon and free range eggs - delicious. The hot tub in the courtyard was lovely after a long drive. Joeseph recommended The Tavern for an evening meal and to pre-book as it gets busy. We did so and what a fantastic meal we had! Thanks for the recommendation! I would also like to thank you both for the birthday banners you put in our room and chocolate cake - very thoughtful and much appreciated.

Before we booked this B & B we looked at reviews on trip advisor and i must say we were not disappointed. We were a party of two adults and two children and we stayed in the Jennifer Suite. The children loved their bedroom and the beach themed muriel on the walls and were surprised to see a game station fully equipped with games.

The house is beautiful and in a fantastic location for Alton Towers. Our kids loved the hot tub/sauna after a tiring day at the theme park, and on our return our suite was clean, beds freshly made and the fridge well stocked again with breakfast ingredients. The owners were very accommodating and kind and nothing was too much trouble. A very enjoyable break, a beautiful location and we will certainly return again in the future.

We stayed as a family of six split between 2 rooms, Jennifer and Rebecca for 3 nights. What can I say the welcome we received was excellent we arrived slightly early after a long drive and checked in straight away. The place is set in a quiet village and we went for a walk to stretch our legs. A small village shop, post office and tavern pub. We didn't visit the pub as it was closed when we were out but the shop, although small had a lot to offer.

The rooms were very spacious and clean and the fridge and cupboards were very well stocked, everything we could need for breakfast and more, which was restocked everyday. The Jennifer had beautiful decoration in the bedrooms, which both my small children loved. The only downside we found was the kitchen was a little small with only 2 hobs and no oven in the Jennifer. We were luck that the Rebecca had an oven and we tended to cook our breakfast in there as it had a larger living area for us to use and eat together.

My children and family were made to feel very welcome when using the hot tub, lovely after a long drive or a day in Alton Towers.

The following couple of days we spent in Alton Towers, it is such a short drive away and really easy to find! For meals we went to Rocester, the Fish and Chip shop was great and huge portions! A large portion of chips would probably had fed all 6 of us if we had known! Heywood Hall is also really close to Uttoxeter but we didn't venture there.

All of us had a great nights sleep in comfortable beds and were ready for the next day ahead of us.

We had a lovely time at Heywood Hall and will be returning, yes it needs attention in some areas but the owners are working hard to make the place how they wish and the new improvements can be seen already. Can't wait to return and see how it has improved even more.

Our family of four (2adults & 2children) stayed for one night. We found the place clean and tidy in a good location. However, the house is an old building and it shows. Its tired and certainly needs a good lick of paint inside and out. We find it hard to believe it was renovated only a few years ago!!! (Guessing it was the murals) The breakfast was VERY well stocked with good quality ingredients from the local farm shop. The owner Joe did make a point of telling us if we wanted anything else to let him know and pointed out his mobile number in the welcome pack as he isn't always at the house. Overall it was a nice place but at £120 a night overpriced.

Thank you for taking time to write your report, it is always good to hear reviews, good and not so good. We only took the place over early March and so couldn't do any painting before the season. We have a redecoration plan in place and will start in November. We had alot of work to do with plumbing, lighting and heating which took up most of March, which we felt was more important than
painting. we hoe to be able to welcome you again soon. We are glad you enjoyed the breakfast
ingredients.

I cannot rate this place highly enough. We were a couple in the Victoria suite; the suite is beautifully decorated and absolutely spotlessly clean. The breakfast products supplied to make our own breakfast as we wish were delicious, even leaving enough to have for supper too! The grounds the hall is set in are lovely, they have outdoor seating and you can sit out if you're lucky enough to have the weather as we were. They have a hot-tub and sauna, which we never got round to using. The quality of the suite and all it's contents is top spec. I would definitely stay here again should we ever do Alton Towers again! The village of Denstone is picturesque and the nearby Tavern pub is a busy friendly place - adviseable to book if you'd like to eat there.

What a wonderful place! The house needs a lick of paint on the outside but that is more than made up for by the wonderful couple who run this place. They are the kindest, most welcoming couple I think I have ever met! They have thought of everything. I stayed with four children in the "Elizabeth" suite which has it's own entrance, a large dormitory beautifully decorated with wonderful fairytale paintings spilling onto walls, disco lights, disco ball, immaculately clean, comfortable beds, great wifi, big TV, DVD player, separate loo, separate shower and spacious, separate kitchen. We were provided with lots of towels, complementary toiletries, masses of food in the fridge (sausages, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, cereal, yoghurts, bread, pain au chocolat, jams, butter, orange juice, milk etc.). When I had forgotten matches to light the birthday candles I was provided with some straight away - nothing was too much trouble. The children adored using the hot tub in the garden under a gazebo.
It was better than staying with parents!!
Perfect for an Alton towers trip as a 2nd day at Alton Towers is only £5 extra per person and staying here (a few minutes from the theme park) means you can get there for "early ride time" if you have booked online.
Thank you very, very much.
