We booked 1 night at Camp Ripan (chalet) before an excursion with Kiruna GuideTur.

The hotel is located a bit outside of Kiruna but you can ask the bus driver at the airport to take you there (~60SKR/pers.), it should not be any issue. Location is calm and nice despite the not-so-nice views on the modern buildings nearby.

Our bedroom was lovely and comfortable. The heating worked very well, and this was important with a temperature at -15 degrees outside. International TV channels available.

We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was good, but nothing extraordinary and very expensive. Still better than any other option in Kiruna city center, I believe.
Breakfast was really good and fresh.

The only negative comment would concern the staff at the reception + bar - rather cold & distant. We sometimes felt we were bothering them with our questions. Could be that they were very busy but a little smile could help. The waitress at the restaurant was very polite and friendly.

I still feel that ~250CHF/night is expensive for this hotel but I would come back for the nice atmosphere, comfort in the room, and remote location.

We loved the chalet, had all we needed, updated bathroom, comfortable beds and nice views. The breakfast was good and varied, lovely pancakes and dinner excellent quality although expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful and the reception area spacious and relaxed.

Reading some of the TA entries about Camp Ripan we were beginning to have some doubts. We had been recommended by 'Discover the World', but booked directly. That was simply that their charge for air and hotel was approx £1650 for two, whereas booking on-line cost £600 less! The add-on's were more expensive too. I don't mind paying for service but the difference was too great.

Tip 1 - Book Direct (Linking to Hotels.com from Trip Advisor!)

I must also say when I spoke to the office they were most helpful. Whereas one got the impression that the staff did not care too much, they were just the opposite. Being somewhat older than the average visitor, and a little less mobile we wanted to not to have to go far to the service building. We were about 50 metres. They also advised us that we should have a car (even when there was snow about) - which we did. Though the hotel is a bit difficult to find,

Tip 2 - Hire a car, even in winter. - but make sure you have satnav.

Our main reason for going was to see the Northern Lights, and unfortunately (not Camp Ripan's fault) were disappointed. There was a glow early one morning - but you need reasonable solar activity (it was quiet), and clear skye (this was mixed). You need to be able to monitor the sky and a north backing room would be better. We had a good sized cabin - with an extra bedroom (which we didn't need) (Room 9 - but anything Room 1 to 15 odd numbers would be good). If you are content with something smaller, then a room opposite would be better (Room 2-16 - even numbers).

Tip 3 - For best view of Northern Lights and near to the services go for Room 2-16 even numbers, unless you need the space.

When we were there, the staff continued to be helpful. When we needed anything they provided it, and we would go back again.

The restaurant was good, if a bit expensive. This is reviewed separately

Like most things in Kiruna it will probably be moved sometime.

Room Tip: For best view of Northern Lights and near to the services go for Room 2-16 even numbers, unless you need the space.

We had transfer from airport included. Cabin not ready on arrival but staff helpful and had free coffee while we waited a few minutes.
Cabin did not have clothes storage in main room. Did not matter as we were only two but could be awkward. Kitchenette basic but functional - no instructions for oven. Good range of food for breakfast in centre - included in our package. Cabin warm in spite of very cold weather. Beds a bit soft but comfortable. Usual twin put together to make double. Tea and instant coffee but no milk provided. Kettle and hairdryer provided. Cups very small- bring or buy mugs!
Our package was from Copenhagen with Icehotel - good value.
Also note car hire is useful - Avis and Budget are together on town - and driving on snow was no problem.

Stayed in February 2013 for three nights for winter holiday, parents and our two-year-old. It paid off ordering a taxi with our train ticket from Norway. We had a room a short walk away from the reception/restaurant/breakfast building. The room was OK with a good bed, table to sit and have a snack. Instant coffee and teabags. Sofa. Fridge and sink. The bathroom was small and did not receive the latest refurbishment.
Our daughter quickly discovered the dusty corners... still not a problem for us. But when ordering we asked for a separate children's bed which was not available the first night. Also used glasses and cups got not replaced with new, at this price we would have expected that. But washing up liquid was provided.
Good food in the restaurant, a bit of a fancy attitude, which comes at an elevated price.
Helpful staff for booking activities.
