Description: The Umdloti Bush Tavern & Grill, or "The Bush", as it is affectionately known, is 25 years old! It was a Friday 13th,1992 and the Connor family had absolutely no idea what they were in for… The youngest, Guy, was still at school and so was the relief barman on weekends (child labour?...sorry Guy!). Guy has since, wisely, escaped to Australia and to this day is the only one in the family with a proper job.. Pam was the chef/cook/scullery/bouncer and backup waitress, Greg the barman/accountant/chief beer taster/bouncer and backup father; and Steve & Rob wrestled nightly with the vast array of “colourful” clientele we attracted. Well, times have certainly changed and the “farm” Umdloti has turned into a vibey, metropolitan little community in the shadow of an international airport. We would like to remember and thank all our customers, past and present, for visiting us over the years and contributing to the local landmark that The Bush Tavern has become.

This is clearly a major venue for locals and has all the vibe of a thriving pub. However, I found the staff to be on the hostile side of indifferent and I got the clear impression that strangers were not expected or welcomed. Food is OK, but portions are small and the music was cheesy acoustic guitar the night I was there.

Goodness knows how many owners/managers there have been. Pool tables are long gone. There are still R50 meals, plus more pricey options. Fine service. Bit of a racket at weekends, very popular, parking a nightmare. A legend in its many lifetimes.

The atmosphere smacks you in the face on Friday nights - music (live band), food aromas, the hustle and bustle of student waitresses and children scattering underfoot. Other nights are not so lively, but have a vibe of a well loved pub. The food is generally good - well sized portions, and well cooked better than average pub fare.

The Bush Tavern provides a great place to go and let your hair down and relax whilst enjoying great food. If your into sports then youll be well catered for with the big screens etc

Dislike the smokers, but not much you can do about that. Location is superb, you sit on a wood balcony overlooking the sea, what better place to fling back frozen margaritas and chow down on a fantastic meal of fillet steak? Or, if you're a hard-core local, a delicious bunny chow (curry served in a half-loaf of bread which has had the center scooped out).
