A nice enough hotel which is located on a busy road about 10 mins from Borgholm. I stayed for 2 weeks on a business trip - the first room was newly (and nicely) renovated but very small, brightly lit from outside at night and suffered with a lot of road noise. The second room was a lot nicer being much larger and at the back of the hotel. Whilst being informed you could get a beer from the fridge by the sauna this was unfortunately locked at 9 pm and there was no other hotel bar which was frustrating. The restaurant served very nice food, but was clearly trading on a prize won many years ago as the food was fussy, expensive and very limited in choice... Overall a nice place to stay for a few days but probably not for longer.

I can only talk about the restaurant (haven't tried the hotel). We loved it. Great food, great service (attentive but not intruding). We appreciated the great care for details, e.g. recommendations on non-alcoholic beverages rather than just offering mineral water or soda as is so often the case. Also, there is a very nice vegetarian menu. The food is local and often organic. It's pricy but worth it.

We stayed here for 7 nights. Our room was poor but we have to commend the hotel because they had only one room left and they warned us that there was no view at all from it (and offered it at a cheaper rate). It was the quality of the restaurant - food and wine list - that proved to be the highlight for us. Simply delicious. we ate there every evening. Not cheap but brilliant quality on each occasion.

We stayed here for 3 nights. It is very well located to explore the island.

We booked a "corner double" room, thinking that it would have a nice view towards Kalmar sound but found that the view was very limited and distant. The corner room (245) was the same size as a standard double, its only advantage being a second window for the extra SEK180 a night. We noticed from the floor plan on the back of the door that the "larger double" rooms (at the same price as the corner room) were quite a bit bigger, so we changed to one of those (room 235). It was quite spacious, well furnished and decorated, with a good bathroom.

If your mobility is limited, ask for a room on the 3rd floor (room 301 etc), which is the same level as Reception and the Restaurant.

The Restaurant was very good indeed. There was a good choice of dishes for dinner, much of it locally sourced. The food was delicious and well presented and service was excellent. Even if staying at the hotel, you need to book a table for dinner - the first night we had a table inside the restaurant with no view, so asked for (and were given) a very nice table in the conservatory for the next two evenings.

Breakfast was equally good.

Staff on reception were very pleasant and efficient and spoke excellent English. There is a computer near reception with free (and fast) internet access.

We would thoroughly recommend here as being a good value, comfortable place to stay with a great restaurant and ideally placed to explore the island. It even has free parking, which in our experience was rare in Sweden.

Room Tip: "Larger" is better than "corner"

I have wanted to stay at Halltorp for several years because ot its good reputation regarding their food. This time, however, we visited a concert and came late so the restaurant was closed so we just slept there. I was not happy with the hotelroom and service. The room was large but I have never stayed at a 4 start hotel with an old small "kitchen-tv" in the room. Some of the furniture seemed old and the bed was very hard. The bathroom was tiled but the shower was not fresh. When we arrived late everything was closed and dark, we met a person from the staff and asked if they possible sold some sandwiches in the reception - he just answered "No" and was gone. I usually like Countryside Hotels but this one I will pass.

It is a very nice historic building, but the newly added buildings are a bit out of character with the main building. We stayed here for 5 nights in a suite. That was a little bit odd, because we slept on the addic and the bathroom was downstairs. The bed was to hard for me, but all the beds in Sweden seem to be hard. The bathroom was very small, but all the bathrooms in Sweden seem to be small. Yes, it was basically or simple furnished, but I think that is the Swedish style and that differs from the European continent, UK and even USA. At first we thought the noice of the main road on the island would keep us awake, but after 8.00 pm it was quiet. The location is perfect to explore the island. You can use bikes from the hotel for free (on the little roads it is very quiet and nice). There was a funny smell on the first floor of the main old building where the suites are, we couldn't place it and the reception wasn't aware of it??? The restaurant was really perfect and the staff very friendly. Golfcourse Ekerum at 1 km, very nice course. If you go to Öland, go to this gastgiveri.
