5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2008

last weekend we went to malmo and we stayed in this hotel.
it's a really good one.
the location is just perfect.
central station and downtown are just a few minutes walk.
the hotel itself is in an old building in quite huge square.
well renovated, well furitured.
that's what i expect from a hotel which is in the "design-country".
staff is very helpful and friendly.
breakfast is perfect.
well, there is nothing else to say.

Neat and comfortable

It was still pretty cold in Malmo in late March. The location was excellent facing a beautiful square, in short walking distance from the central station. Easy to find and convenient for my first visit to the city. The hotel has a simple, business clientele style with conference rooms on the ground level that are busy with locals weekdays. The room was clean, wooden flooring was nice, the bedding was comfortable. The shower room was adequate. My room was facing a narrow side street, which was very quiet.

Buffet breakfast was great! Good variety of beautiful local breads and yogurt. But the cooked dishes- tomatoes, bacon and mushrooms- were extremely salty, in fact, too salty to eat……. (not sure if it was accidental or always that salty, as I slept in the second morning and missed the breakfast!).

The hotel offered less TV channels (only one English channel –BBC) than other hotels I stayed in Copenhagen, however, WiFi was free with your own PC which was great.

Receptionist did make mistakes (overcharged) my bill as well as telling me wrong information about the airport bus; however, all in all, they appeared pleasant, efficient and helpful. I would stay here again, for the location and the cleanliness.

A perfect stay. Our room was lovely, newly renovated with a nice view of the square. Excellent buffet breakfast as well. Very good value for money. I would definately recommend!

The hotel recently got updated and the rooms are now in a great shape. Next to the in other reviews mentioned great staff, superb breakfast and best location the new style of the hotel is definitely worth mentioning. And we traveld in a very busy season and still were able to get a good rate for 2 nights walking up the desk during the day.
Only downside, they have no parking at the hotel but in 5 min. you can walk to a big very secure parking garage and park your car there for a reasonable 24h fee.
And if you like it quite during the night do not select a room with the great view to the city, you also get the noise in the evening from the Stortorget market, which has a lot of very nice restaurants to sit outside in the summer in the evening.

We stayed at the Rica in Malmo as hotel rooms were fully booked in Copenhagen during the weekend we visited.

The rooms are okay, nothing special but the decor does look dated. The bathroom had dingy lighting and the shower had seen better days, with some mould and limescale deposits on the shower doors. The shower wasn't powerful at all, more of a misty spray and the water leaked outside onto the bathroom floor. You are provided with a hairdryer but no additional toiletries. There are only liquid soap dispensers attached to the wall near the sink and the same in the shower. you are provided with ample towels, though rather on the small side.

The room was furnished to an acceptable standard but the bed wasn't very comfortable and the mattress very soft. There is also no controlled air-con in the room. One window in our room was bolted shut and the other one was difficult to open.

The best thing about the hotel was the buffet breakfast; there was a huge choice - cereals, sausages, meatballs, pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, bread, cheeses, fruit, and more!
Reception staff were also helpful and efficient. It's in a very convenient location, just 5 mins walk from Malmo Central station and in a very nice square.

The Rico was very central, and handy as it was on the main sqaure in Malmo. The breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. However, I was disappointed with the standard of the bedrooms, which were very 70's, and needing a bit of modernisation. Occasional revellers from the all-night bars in Lilla Torg square nearby seem to choose our laneway on their way home, and their shouts could be heard long into the night. Restaurants in Malmo excellent, and we had a particularily good meal in the Skeppsbron 2 restaurant across the canal bridge from the main square. Lovely canalside stting really made for a memorable night.

We stopped at Malmo on our drive from Volvo factory--with our tom-tom GPS finding the hotel was easy---a huge ancient building-ask if any of the rooms with balconies are available--we were 2 adults and a large teenager the room was large extra bed was sofa pull out-there was no a/c--consider bringing small fan if you come in july as we did--some of the windows are bolted close--lucky for us we has corner room--bathroom large no/comp/toiletries--only shower no tub--can leave laundry by 8:15 will be delivered to room before 5---lots of metered parking across the street and pm parking next to hotel for 4 cars for reservation only---breakfast very large, eggs, bacon, english sauge, fresh sauteed mushrooms-swedish pancakes-yougert--fresh fruit--lots od cereals and fresh bread--
everything is with in walking distance and following canal will lead you to fortress, museums and "turning torso" building (next to huge ikea/walmart shopping) movie theaters and local craft shops very close to hotel
