Very quiet and truly central location in downtown Malmo. A touch of history but no dust at all. Good taste - comfortable room with a charming view of Malmo rooftops and towers. Super bathroom and wonderful beds. We cannot wait to return.

Stayed at Mayfair Tunnlen for 2 nights in March 08

Location was super, 200 yards for the central station (but we still managed to get lost), and 50 yards form the shopping street.

The building is very nice, looks like an old mansion. The lobby is beautiful, old style with marble floor and crystal chandeliers.

The check in was swift and smooth, only minus was that the female receptionist was a bit distant she could have been a bit more friendly.

Room was very nice, a bit dark and quite hard to find. It had a super elevation bed, really nice bathrooms and was very clean. Complimentary wireless internet, mineral water, tea and coffee were included.

We had previously read about the hotels breakfast, here on Tripadvisor, so we were looking very much forward to trying it. That being said, I must point out that is was the best hotel breakfast that we have ever had. Wonderful spread, set in the most romantic setting (very old cellar under the hotel), we absolutely loved it. Too bad that they close at 1030 on weekends; we wanted to stay longer :) …

Second night we decided to eat in the restaurant next to the reception. Art deco style room, great service and really great food. Menu not so extensive, but something for everybody, but must stress that the food was really above what we had expected, highly recommendable..

Checkout was smooth and the desk clerk was service minded and informative regarding trains and was to do the last hours in Malmo.

Overall, really great weekend, we paid 1095 sek per night, and it was worth every penny. We would very much like to come back this summer, and maybe combine it with a couple of days in Copenhagen (which FYI is 35 min away with the train).

Location - very good - next to the station and only 20 minutes on a direct train from Copenhagen airport. Located very near the main shopping street and many good restaurants.

Rooms - very small room, not particularly well appointed (cables not neat and tidy, small tv, only one bedside table - certainly more 3 star than 4 ... very difficult to manage way round miniscule bathroom - had to climb all over the bath to get out of the shower, resulted in my partner falling and badly bruising her legs. We're in our late 20s - i'm intrigued what an older traveller would do.

Rest of the hotel - fairly old building, we didn't notice any great number of facilities available for guests that we would normally expect at a 4 star hotel.

Food - breakfast was average. I did like the buns/teas and coffees available all day every day in the main room.

Staff / Management - we mentioned that the bath was difficult to get out of (so that they could make note if they had any older guests staying to avoid that room). However, we were sent away by the receptionist who after calling the manager said that he was very annoyed that the receptionist had called him out of hours to deal with a complaint. [it was 5:30pm!] When we did see the manager the following morning, he claimed to be a security guard! When he realised we were serious he did provide a discount from the bill despite only being the "security guard". To be honest we'd have much preferred a short apology the previous day when we raised the complaint and some reassurance that they ensure that the bathroom is made safer in future. Found it all exceptionally unprofessional.

Price wise - got the room much cheaper than the average rate here from a swedish site showing malmo hotels.

After a few days in Copenhagen we decided to experience a little of Sweden by going to Malmo which is just across the water, about 15 km away. Linked by road which takes you under and over the water it's as easy as going to the next town. Malmo is a delightful place and was well worth the two days we spent there.

Staying at the Mayfair Hotel put us in the middle of the town just a short stroll from the main square – the Stortorget – and the impressive Town Hall. The train station is a few minutes away. It is an historic hotel with none of the modern trimmings of pool and fitness centre which suits us fine. What it does have are bright and airy rooms that are comfortable and spotlessly clean, modern bathrooms and small balconies off some of the rooms. Internet is free and breakfast is included. The latter is no small deal as it's a sumptuous feast laid out in the 13th century vaulted cellars – this is a place to linger in the morning to fuel up for the day.

The history of this building is fascinating and the more you learn the more you feel privileged to be a guest. The original building dates from 1319 and has been variously home to Swedish King Gustav IV Adolf and Leonora Christine who was the daughter of Danish King Christian IV. Perhaps I need to add that it wasn't at the same time! In the 17th century Denmark claimed this part of the Sweden peninsula as its own. This house seems to have been a central part of territorial history, with royalty from both nations installed in residence.

Staff is excellent, speak perfect English and are friendly and efficient. There's a tiny rattly lift but there are still a number of stairs to negotiate which may be a problem for the less mobile. We loved the Mayfair and actually preferred Malmo to Copenhagen which may be an unfair comparison as one is a city and the other smaller and therefore quieter, which is more to our liking. If you find yourself in this part of the world a visit to Malmo is recommended, and when there the Mayfair Hotel is the perfect overnight stay. The Deluxe rooms are lovely and reasonable value - they are also considerably cheaper on the weekend at 995 SEK (approx €108). And the really good thing is that you don't have to be born to the crown to stay here.

THIS IS IT!! Hotel looks marvelous, posh and clean. We had a deluxe room with an outstanding bathroom. The bed was big, warm and soft. The breakfast room is stunning! The breakfast is more then you can dream of with, next to the normal breakfast stuff, blue cheese, chocolates and all kinds of fresh fruit. this hotel is superb! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We came in soaking from a long and wet motorcycle trip and eventhough the hotel looks posh, the staff were absolute darlings. The only thing that could be a problem for some is that there are many stairs, they do have elevators, but there are always a few steps more to the room. We, by the way, enjoyed that, because it made the hotel more nice old fashioned and a bit mysterious..hehe.
The price is absolutely worth it. If we are going to Malmö again, there is only one place where we want to stay!...a deluxe room in the Mayfair Hotel please!!
